The ACU are making the wearing of chest protectors compulsory. How many of you remember when crash helmets became compulsory on the road and later in trials? We used to "wind up" the road car drivers at work when they were forced to wear safety belts, but then suffered ourselves with the crash helmet laws. All sorts of headgear then appeared. Push bike helmets, building site lids and even those BSI approved helmets shaped like a deerstalker hat! The attitude of many youth motocross Dads sometimes amaze me. I was accused once of costing a small lad a good finishing position after helping him when he fell off in what I thought was a dangerous position on the track. We all want our kids to be good at something, but please let them enjoy their riding, if they do well that's good, if not, there will always be another day. The new data protection laws that will come into being from late May will affect clubs over the storing of personal data. The hope is that the ACU will come up with some short wording for inclusion on entry forms. It seems that when we store people's data we will have to ask them if that is OK. Strange that, nobody who has entered any of our clubs events has ever given me their bank details, maybe I should ask for them!

Sad to see that Ron Ryalls, the "gate keeper" at Dews Farm has had to move because of the dreaded HS2 "goonshow". He has been a great help to all of the South Midland clubs that have used Dews over the years. If we had an awkward chap there things might have been very different. He unlocks the gates for us and his daughter moves her horses to another field. Well done Ron, and good luck in your new home.

Changes to the '70 year old' rule has been on several agenda at the ACU over the years and it has always been rejected. There has recently been a proposal to raise this to 80 while the ACU Directors are suggesting 73. The '70 year old' rule applies to members of the ACU Board of Directors, National Council delegates, members of ACU Sport Committees. There is no upper limit for Centre or Club officials, or Clerks of the Course or any officials of events.

Grass Track South East British Clubmans Championship GTSA open their season with the running of the Clubmans Championship from which the top eight solos and top ten sidecars go forward to the British Masters in August. Riders will qualify on the points scored in the heats only. Entries have been slow in coming in but there is every hope to field full lineups for the right hand sidecars and solos. No GTSA meeting would be complete without the left hand sidecars and they will be playing the supporting role in the programme. Practice gets underway at eleven with racing starting at one o'clock. The track at Dig Dog Lane, not to
be confused with the Frittenden venue has be receiving some careful preparation and should be in tip top condition for the event on Sunday June 10th. Quads National Championship Maidstone Aces start their season Sunday July 1st with the event rescheduled from April. This will now host round two of the Quad Grass Track National Championship for the John Elliott Trophy. There is a full programme with four solo classes and three sidecar classes in addition to the quads which necessitates the early start time of midday, practice gets underway at 10.30. The track at Grafty Green has undergone a considerable amount of work
and the club are confident that the venue will live up to expectation and the variety of racing promises good value. Summer Spectacular ‘Pairs' Meeting On the 29th July, Frittenden & DMCC host an open ‘Pairs' Grasstrack Meeting. Riders will pair up to score points to get into the 6 lap finals! In the final the points will then be reset with the highest scoring pair in the final the winner of their class! It's a meeting like no other and with any rider able to enter it's definitely one not to miss! For more information, and keep an eye across our social media outlets and website. www.fdmcc.co.uk.
