"Very interesting" to see in a recent issue of TMX the auction of a collection of off road bikes. I often wonder how many machines have been stored or recycled over the years.

I'm sure that there are quite a few bikes that have been just "put away"in sheds and barns and almost forgotten by their owners. Some years ago I went with and old friend to see a trials Tiger Cub that had been advertised.

It was a hundred mile round trip to see it and when we eventually saw it we were amazed, The bike had been left in an old farm barn for a long time and it was covered with hay, dust and chicken droppings, needless to say it was hardly a "works replica"and our trek was truly a wasted journey.

Where do stolen bikes go? I can understand to an extent thieves being attracted to motocross bikes for their speed and excitement, but what do you see in a trials "iron". They are very slow compared to a MX bike and only useful to a trials competitor. How many end up in Eastern Europe (that's not very PC Bob) or are they just dumped when the fuel runs out along with the interest of the thieves. I know that several machines have been recovered after their loss was reported on Facebook which of course is good.

Of course if the bike is insured that can be a help in refunding any money but it doesn't help if your much loved bike is lost forever. Immobilising your machine whilst it is stored must help , I used to remove one of the wheels of my bike, whilst risking the wrath of my better half when they had to share the bedroom with a large block treaded lump of bike!

It was nice to see Alexz Wigg back on a bike after a break, I know he will be soon showing the form that won him various "titles" in the past.

By the time all you avid readers have read this the motocross world championships will have started. Will Champions Cairoli and Jonas have things all their own way in 2018?

Again being slightly controversial, I do wonder why there are World championship rounds in places like Argentina and Indonesia and elsewhere. Maybe I am being a little unfair, but I haven't see many MX "aces" from some of the host countries. However, I do wish them all a good and hopefully an injury free season, especially our UK aces. My season is in full swing and I am having a time (if you can call it that) in the deep end!!!

Maxxis British Championship at Culham was next and the weather was again wet wet wet, however Sunday race day was dry. RHL Promoters had done a great job of track and pit area given the cards that was being dealt to them. Qualification went okay with 23rd position but not a great gate pick. In Race 1 I had a good start but unfortunately half way round lap one I crashed. I battled back to 27th but knew I was riding well for top 20 which was my goal. So I re-grouped for Moto 2 and banged in another good start. A few battles I eventually ended up 16th and points in the bag which was my goal. I was happy how the day went and look forward to round 2.

Then we all moved to Preston Docks for Round 1 of MX Nationals which I am racing the Expert MX2 class.

You guessed it on day 1 wet wet wet. I qualified 2nd which was great and was able to nail

a great race win in the wet (very tough for everyone). MX National team only run one block on the Saturday and as the weather was looking good for Sunday conditions had vastly improved which resulted in some great racing throughout the groups. After some great battles and the track getting so rough, I went on to record a 3rd and 2nd for Sunday's racing which netted me a solid 2nd overall. This was a great start to my championship campaign and I look forward to the other rounds.

Round 2 of the Maxxis British Championship at Canada Heights came round very fast.

The conditions were perfect especially with the sun shining.

Qualification went really well as I posted a brilliant 14th place and 2.9 seconds off pole. I raced to two points scoring rides 18th & 19th however I did suffer in the second Moto with bad hand blisters which hindered my progress, however I still enjoyed the day and boy I did suffer on Monday with the aches and pains. Thinking back I have still managed my goals which is finish in the top 20 in each race and keep building the blocks.

I am learning so much every time I roll out onto the track and loving every minute of it. My full Maxxis debut was less than a month ago and obviously I'm still finding my feet but I've got a great team behind me and with every race there's a new lesson.

I'm looking forward to the next round in two weeks time and hope to continue to score points.

Our Dear Motorcycling Friend... Brian Clark

injured my wrist as a result when the bike stopped dead and I carried on. This injury took We both have great memories 2 years to heal properly. Brian of a character who always could see I was disappointed seemed so full of life and with my very first competition, approached everything he did as well as being in pain, so we with a great smile, laughter got talking about the severity of and energetic enthusiasm. the trial, because it was hard. I I first met Brian in 1990 said that's it, I am retiring after when we were competing in my first event! Brian gave great a Pre-65 Trial at the famous comfort and cajoled me into Brands Hatch venue during the Festival of 1000 Bikes. This event having another go, stating that not all trials were this hard. I was organised by the Vintage wasn't convinced though. But Motorcycle Club, but it was on the way home driving my car either the Erith & District MCC or the Greenwich MCC that had one handed, I thought deeply set the trials sections. It was my about his kind and encouraging words. Then decided I would try first ever competition on my again, entirely on the strength Greeves and I really struggled! of Brian's words of wisdom and Brian was on an AJS 350 cc encouragement. My second Springer, if my memory serves trial, an easier one was much me correctly? During the trial happier and I gained a runner I had to ride over a very large fallen tree, something I had not up award. Thank you Brian done before. Although I studied for that important and timely what the other riders techniques encouragement!! as Twiggy also famously said in those now outdated Honda commercials we watched on TV. Everything Brian told me has come true! Not only great fun but great friends have been made, also a fair amount of success has come my way since that initial and bruising awakening. All these years of pleasure is entirely due to Brian's kind words, encouragement and guidance. I owe him an awful lot for stepping into my life!

We rode together in many one day Pre-65 trials. I did not get into the long distance ones until years later. My very first 'Team and a Team Win' was in the Arbuthnot Trial down in Wiltshire in 2002. A long distance event in spectacular rolling hills countryside. Our team name was Kent Mix. My very talented Girder Fork team members being Brian Clark (on Maggie the 350 Matchless), John Excell (ex Reg May BSA 250) and myself 'the relatively new boy' on my ex Ray Blackwell Ariel 500. We were riding the competition route (hardest) and just beat another team of 3 on BSA Bantams who rode the easier (Colonial) route. Both teams finished on the same number of points lost. But team Kent Mix were faster on the special test, so gained the much deserved win. A memorable day out for three competitive old boys!

I always wanted to aspire to Brian's riding skill and like to think I got somewhere near it ...Eventually! But there was no denying Brian's talent and I wish I had known him when he was Scrambling in his more

youthful days. I had glimpse's of this on a section near White Sheet Hill in the Arbuthnot trial. We were on the hard route and there was a furrowed and bumpy, very steep ascent on one of the sections. Most riders were failing to conquer it. Brian approached the hazard at top speed on Maggie the Matchless, standing on the footrest's as any Scrambler would have, he literally flew up that hill as if it wasn't there!

Cannily he had taken a slightly wider approach line that no other competitor had seen.

At the top there was that typical successful smile of Brian's which showed his delight. Laughter followed, loud enough for the those in the next county to enjoy! In between observed sections on those chalky slippery Byways in Wiltshire, Brian always excelled.

His old scrambling talents saw him disappearing into the yonder countryside as he left us trailing in his wake. A very fast rider indeed! Although we did

catch him just once when he was forced to stop, throwing Maggie into the hedgerow and crying out in pain. John and I approached and declared 'what on earth is the matter Brian'?

He couldn't speak at first but eventually we got the gist that it was extreme cramp in his leg due to all those 78 miles of off road work we had now almost completed. But when we looked more closely behind that grimacing expression, there was still that smile. A bit of a war dance followed, as he tried to shake off extreme cramp. However, before the pain had completely subsided that classic rumble of laughter returned and everything was back to normal. The Wiltshire countryside certainly knew that Team Kent Mix had visited on that particular Sunday. A shocking experience for the timid local wildlife, without a shadow of doubt!

Sue and me have many more memories of Brian and everyone of them is treasured. You can't

the meeting planned for the 29th April. The waterlogged field was not expected to clear in time for preparations to start. However the club

say that about many people these days! Can you? A special friend with a special talent! Very competitive, with a knack of picking up on a funny situation that was more than worthy of Pee Taking! He should have been a stand up comedian, such was his response and timing, with a sometimes wicked but albeit friendly remark.

We had been wondering why Brian hadn't been on Skype of late but now understand.

He gave us no inkling of his current health. We enjoyed those long distance Skype conversations greatly. Sue and me are sorry we can't make it to Portugal for a celebration of Brian's colourful life.

On the 19th April we took a ride around the lanes here in his honour and memory. Sue on her Triumph Speed Twin and me on the Ariel 500 trials bike that I had to ride so hard to try to catch him... failing most times.

We will miss our very dear motorcycling friend immensely!Â

As luck would have it, the first decent weather on a Sunday this year coincided with the first round of the 2018 SMC at Long Buckby. Despite snow the previous weekend and a lot of rain on the Friday night before, the circuit was in great shape. Whilst it certainly wasn’t easy, the soft going meant lots of ruts formed in the corners. As the sun shone the track dried and got better and better as the day went on.

Choosing to race with his local club for a change, Neville Bradshaw proved almost unbeatable winning four out of his five races. Beaten only

by Michael McClurg in race one, Neville took the overall in the Expert Class and posted

the fastest lap time of the day on the very last lap of the last race. Michael finished second overall, ahead of Kristian Hutchings and Paul Burn.

In the Junior A class Lewis Huckerby showed impressive speed on his way to a maximum. Ethan Etheridge came runner-up each time with Mac Burdett third in both of the finals. Aaron Read took the Junior B honours with a first and a second. Ashley Rilings took second overall, with Jake Wills taking the last step on the podium.

Simon Wyse made the tricky conditions look easy on his way to three convincing wins in the Premier class. Second overall went to Tony Leishman after Ryan Griffiths missed the final race. Lee Keyton took third overall with his results getting better each time out. Fraser Law once again topped the Elite class with Justin Carter finishing second on his enduro machine. Steve Bottoms took third ahead of Steve Gilbey. It’s very rare that anyone manages to beat Nigel Miller in the Super class, and this proved to be no exception. Three wins for Nigel gave him the overall from Reg Willis, Roger Knibbs taking third. In the U40 class Ashley Rilings took the overall with 3 good finishes. Feet-Up-For Cancer Charity, Road and Off Road Trial

After weeks of rain, club members spent three days removing dams formed by fallen trees, twigs and leaves in the streams used for sections in the road trial, to reduce the water level, which in some places was three feet deep.

And just as things were looking good after two sunny dry days and a warm breeze, the Sunday dawned after a heavy overnight rain, and showers on and off all day which made the sections harder and a mess of our parking field with cars and vans getting stuck and the burger van down to its chassis.

But with a hardy bunch of observers sent off to their sections and Ninety four riders waiting to start, the trial got under way.

For the road trial riders, the experts were sent off first, they started with five sections at the start area, which took marks from all the riders, and then it was off to the next group Dilley wood, about six miles away with two sections in and out of a muddy ditch and tight turns around the trees, then on the road for a short distance to The Bourne, five sections of steep climbs and cambers which took marks from all the riders, out of the Bourne and onto the road for about five miles to the next group, Sawtrees, two sections set on a very loose gravel bank, the second section took marks from all the riders with Matt Lefevre and Tim Bird getting out for just a dab. As the riders left Sawtrees the police were waiting at the gate and stopped 14

some of the riders and checked their bikes for tax and insurance, with the bikes being road legal and the police realising that it was an organised event the lads were sent on their way and told to take it steady and enjoy their day. So it was off to the next group, in the Blakesware estate, four sections in and out of a stream which made for some difficult sections with the banks getting slippery with the water being dragged up the banks and not helped by the rain.

Off to the next group of five sections for more steep drops and climbs with tight turns around trees, and cambers in the mix for good measure, not too many problems for the experts, but the intermediates, clubmen and twin shocks struggled with the slippery conditions, then it was out of the estate and on the road for about 7 miles to the next group of four sections at Barwick, once again steep wooded banks, not an easy group taking marks from everyone.

On the road again to the next group, Plashes, about 3 miles away, four sections again, two on banks in the woods and two on sandy banks on the way out, and then back to the start area for the last five slippery and muddy sections.

The off road trial had four laps of ten sections in wood land at the start area with, steep climbs, mud and extremely slippery conditions, lots of marks lost with Daniel Greeves topping the experts on 89 marks and youth A, Gus Oblein not far behind on 94, best novice was Simon Thake on 87 marks

and young Harry Coleman who is more used to a modern bike, turned out on a 250 Suzuki and won the clubman with a loss of 46 marks. Best Pre 65 was won by Mick Clarkson 38 marks and twin-shock winner was Paul Meader on 66. Sportsman winner on his 500 Norton was Steve Jones 38 marks and young George Clark kept going despite the conditions to win the youth B with 149 Marks lost.

Good Friday Trial

The heavy overnight rain and cold winds had ceased and so the sun shone once again on the righteous for Oxford's Good Friday Trial at Steeple Hill Folly Farm Beckley.

This was the venue for Ixions 3rd club champs where a good entry of 50 plus riders set off to tackle 10 sections four times with a mix of mud roots climbs ditches and rocks that sorted an outright winner in each class.

On the hard route Expert Guy Kenyon-Bell dropped 16 marks his 300 Gasser having ample power to burn a path through section eight firstly hopping over a low branch before dropping into a ditch next a very tricky cambered turn then a blast across a bog.

Best Youth A Brett Harbud posted the lowest score on the harder route losing 14 Brett was good on section ten a sixty yard natural stream gully full of roots that remained submerged throughout proceedings.

Ryan Tomkins was best Intermediate on 42 marks lost with four quality cleans on section one a very steep sandy drop before climbing up though several tree chicanes then a sharp turn to the ends.

Dean Basford 250 Beta aced the middle Yellow route taking best Clubman on 8 lost.

Section nine was tough a water splash to a polishedup camber then a fast flowing stream with rocks after which a heavily rooted turn had to be navigated.

Basford had a steadying prod first lap then three excellent cleans.

Alan Taylor had a good day to take runner-up on 14 the aging TY 250 steed having no problem with the going which you could call a leveller.

Phil Ducker Beta 250 took third spot on 17, section three 'Axfords Hill' catching him out for a three last lap after getting hooked up on a bramble but prior to this inch perfect.

Alex Muirhead TRS 300 over from the Western Centre was best Inter 19 his tally for the day.

Alex making the newly cut sudden steep ascent of section three look easy.

On the White eased course Justin Cookson served up a treat of a ride dabbing only once at sub nine on his final visit.

Steve 'Rambo' McHugh had 300 4RT power to ensure the long slick climbs of section 2 were no problem for second

spot the big four stroke could heard echoing through the woods from afar.

Tim Roblett lost 10 for third place with four perfect rides on the long blast of section 5 from the lower field where the start was starting to deteriorate after much wheelspin to gain momentum.

MINUTES of the SECOND meeting of the SOUTHERN CENTRE BOARD for the 2018 Session, held on Thursday 1st FEBRUARY 2017 were received and accepted as a true record.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES a) Channel Islands Trials Seminars, Monday 4th/Tuesday 5th December: 5 Guernsey Licences renewed, 4 Jersey renewals and 4 new Licences; b) SEEC Enduro Seminar, Saturday 18th November: Results still awaited; c) SEEC Technical Seminar, Saturday 24th February: Mr M.Fildes now qualified; d) Guernsey Moto Cross Seminar: To be arranged; e) Centre Trials Academy: A successful Training Day has taken place, Ringwood MC & LCC on Sunday 10th March; f) Centre Trophies: Mr Graves reported that these are now safely stored at Southampton & DMCC HQ. Thanks were extended to Southampton & DMCC for their assistance.

SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS Moto Cross Mr Miller reported: a) Centre Champs Event, Winchester MCC, Good Friday, was cancelled due to weather conditions. The Club now intends to run the Centre Solo Championships on Sunday 22nd April and the Sidecar Championships at the next Winchester MCC event; b) Centre Awards for 2017: Being processed.

FROM THE ACU a) Basic Permits issued: NORA Restricted Moto Cross at West Meon on Saturday 31st March (re-arranged from 18th – now cancelled); Winchester MCC: Open Moto Cross, Friday 30th March (since cancelled); Carshalton MCC: Open Enduro (South Eastern Centre) at Embley Woods, Sunday 22nd July; b) Illegal practice at Bracknell, reported by Thames Valley Police; c) General Secretary’s Newsletter: Basically, items for discussion/ explanation at the cancelled Chairmen and Secretaries’ meeting scheduled for Saturday 3rd March; d) Data Protection: Changed legislation applies from 25th May. Information and draft paperwork circulated to Clubs; e) Training, Practice and Demo Permits can only be issued by the ACU with Centre approval.

ACU NATIONAL COUNCIL REPORT The Chairmen and Secretaries’ Meeting at Rugby on Saturday 3rd March was cancelled.

Trials Mr Wiseman reported: a) Centre Trials Awards for 2017 were presented by the Centre President at the Waltham Chase MCC Awards Evening on Saturday 17th February. The Vera Lambert Trophy awarded to the late Nigel Crouch was collected by Roy Groves, Isle of Wight MCC President on behalf of Nigels’ family; b) Academy Training Days: Ringwood MC & LCC ran Session 1 on Saturday 10th March. Future Sessions are planned by North Berks MCC and Bridport & Weymouth MCC, dates to be advised; c) Hut Hill: Still problems with illegal users, some advertised on Facebook. A possible planning application for a Hotel Complex could prejudice future use.

Grass Track The Sub-Committee was not represented. It was noted that Alan Whale, locally based long established Supporter and celebrated photographer for Grass Track, has died recently.

From the Sunny Side of the Solent Mayor of Havant's 14th Classic Vehicle Run in Aid of Charity Appeal Fund - Sunday 18th April After a largely baleful Spring so far, with one event after another being cancelled, it was good to be aboard the Bantam for the 14th running of the Mayor of Havant's Historic Vehicle Run, based on Havant. Some 120 motorcycles were ready to go at the start time of 10am.

Four routes were available, Long and Short, cars and motorcycles. I decided that Bantam and Rider were up for the Long Route, 55 miles being no big deal for this big hearted 47 year old two stroke. Not surprisingly the Bantam ran effortlessly along the pretty lanes and villages of South Hampshire, including the redoubtable Harting Hill graded at 1 in 8, which the Bantam ascended in fine style cresting the Summit in second gear, followed by a haze of blue smoke. Passing by Treyford, it was time to remember former journalist Ralph Venables, a resident of this tiny village, who wrote many a piece over many years about local and national events, trials and Moto Cross, mainly in the South.

Waltham Chase Trials MCC Events Re-schedule

Round 3 of the Waltham Chase Club Championship/The John Wright Memorial Trial, which was cancelled earlier in the

year because of the snow, will now be held at Hut Hill on Sunday the 3rd June.

Round 3 of the Doreen Earle Summer series, which is

in the calendar for Saturday the 2nd June, will be rescheduled. The new date will be confirmed ASAP.

Re: World Championship Motocross - 2nd/3rd June - Matterley Basin, Winchester Our only World Motocross Championship event in the UK this year will be held at the Matterley Basin, near Winchester, where many of you may have supported the World Championship events previously held there. This year the event will be a two race day format and will include MXGP, MX2, Veterans, EMX 250 and the EMX300.

As I have stated many times before the professionalism and expertise of the Marshals in this

country is extremely high and your support to this country’s motorcycle sport is very much appreciated.

We understand that the Promoter, SD Events Ltd, will require in the region of 60 -70 marshals for this event and hope that you have a willingness to help and be part this year’s meeting. As the event is now being run over just two days we are asking for marshals willing to cover the two days to put themselves forward at this stage.

The ACU has been asked

by S.D. Events to assist with sourcing the race officials for the event.

The package on offer from the organiser includes: • Event Programme • Marshal Pass

• One guest pass • Lunch Refreshments for Saturday /Sunday • Free camping is provided for one vehicle / tent and the marshal area will be located closer to the hub of the event behind the event management units.

The marshals free guest MUST arrive at the same time as the Marshal, due to strict restrictions within the Marshal Camping area.

All Marshals will be required to attend the Marshal training in the Marshal camping area on Friday 1st June at 20.00 hrs.

Wycombe & District Motor Cycle Club Bill Beeson Trial

Wycombe and District Motorcycle Club held their Bill Beeson Memorial Trial this year in aid of the Physically Handicapped Able Bodied Club, (PHAB Club) and the National Help for Heroes Charities. No awards will be given and the Club is delighted to be able to pass on £400 to be shared between the charities.

A heavy overnight thunder storm softened the going and put a greasy layer on the sections comprising climbs and turns on banks and roots. The trial comprised 4 laps of ten sections marked out with three routes of varying severity.

by last year’s winner Jeremy Callow who lost 18 marks and finished ahead of Matt LeFevre (30 marks) and Paul Oldfield (56 marks). The most marks were lost by this class on the twisting rooted climb of section five.

Jeremy and Matt were ahead of

the class by losing only 6 and 5 respectively on section five while Jeremy really excelled on section one with four cleans.

Swindon’s Keith Wooster won the Intermediate Class on the 50/50 hard/middle route loosing 18 marks. Ryan Tomkins was second on 28 and Wycombe’s Rowan Hill third (38). Keith only lost one dab on each of his visits to the difficult section 9 while Ryan and Rowan only managed it for a dab on the second lap.

On the middle route Marcus Haynes took the Novice award

losing 43 marks well ahead of Steve Golla and Timothy Leckey.

The best ride on this route was Doug Johnson who lost 19 to win the Clubman class ahead of Brian Tomkins and Adrian Steele who both lost 24. Stephen Clements brought his Fantic home on 34 marks as the best twin-shock rider ahead of Dave Hill also Fantic mounted on 69.

The Pre-65 Sportsman Class on the easy white route was won by Wayne Hutton on his Tiger Cub who lost 76 finishing ahead of Chris Page on the Bantam (87). The modern Sportsman class was won by Paul Meader who lost 22 marks on his Bultaco to beat Giulio Greco on his Yamaha. Very young Max Golla had some impressive rides for his age in the Youth C class on his 80 Beta.

Just Dreaming...

Being of a certain age, I'm sure I'm not alone in considering a Hagon grass bike, or, indeed, most grass bikes of that era, things of beauty. 'Form follows function', is the designers' dictum, and Alf's bikes must be shining examples. His own bikes were down to the bone, without a fraction of an ounce that wasn't absolutely necessary.

Customer bikes were built to the same philosophy and, unsurprisingly, they became a 36

very popular choice for racers at every level of ability.

The recent Classic Dirt Bike Show, at Telford, was apparently successful in its intention to bring together as many Hagon machines as possible.

While this was doubtless an occasion to savour, with Alf as one of the guests of honour, personal circumstances meant it was not possible for me to go, but dreaming on, I did find a substitute.

It was at the Ashford Classic Motorcycle Show, which usually takes place every Easter Monday at the town's Cattle Market. While the venue may not sound inspiring, for those of you that have not been, trust me, it offers very pleasant surroundings. The usual opportunities to catch up with friends, browse the jumble (again, I'm sure it's not just me, even when you haven't got a project on the go, jumbles are impossible to resist) and then wander round all the bikes on display, looking for the recent restorations among some returning favourites.

I had to return for another close look at a jumble temptation, the rolling chassis of a grass-track bike, a Hagon no less. The price for the Hagon seemed reasonable. About half the value was accounted for by the AMC gearbox, a near-ubiquitous transmission for the larger capacity grass bikes at the time. The hole between the gearbox and the front down tube should have been filled with a JAP engine, the 350 Grass Track unit if the blue background numberplates were anything to go by.

As I need another project like a reindeer needs a hatrack, this was all academic.

However, it would be nice to see someone get the bike up and running once more. I met another of the Ashford regulars, who knows much about track racing, and wondered if he had seen the bike.

He had. "Trouble with it," he opined, "is finding an engine to go in there. You just can't get them. And if you do find anything, it's often rough."

There was a variety of bikes and bits for sale in the jumble, but certainly nothing resembling a JAP engine. However, the weather forecast had been wildly pessimistic and the jumble was not as busy as it might have been. Perhaps some on-line research might provide a sunnier outlook.

My resolve NOT to start another project held firm. My contact details remained my secret. That evening, I went on that well known on-line auction site. All in the cause of research, you understand.

Depressingly, it seems my Ashford contact was right.

Unable to find a complete engine, after a few minutes of trawling I found some crankcases. That's it, just a pair, albeit a matched pair, of aluminium castings. And these were up for £900! A bit more trawling eventually came up with some flywheels for £250. Now, my maths might not be brilliant, but I'm pretty sure by the time you've added mainshafts, con-rod, big-end, pinions, camshaft, followers and sundry other odds and whathaveyous, you

are comfortably north of two grand. And that just leaves the top end of the engine to go!

A few days later, I checked again. The bits had gone, whether sold, or to be re-listed, I know not. I tracked down another sale. This was also for a 350 Hagon-JAP, but this time a complete bike was on offer. The advertiser claimed it to be an early seventies example and still in factory finish and on original tyres, as it had hardly ever been used. It was up for £5,500.

Balanced against the bit-part build, it seemed a fair price.

I admitted I did not want another project, but perhaps I am looking at this from the wrong angle. I may not have space in the garage, but an immaculate example of Alf's finest is surely worthy of a place in the lounge? I soon banished this thought. Bikes are for riding, not hiding.

This lofty resolution was put to the test at the recent Astra Euro grass track at Swingfield.

On display was that familiar blue-painted framework and the familiar script on the valve gear cover casting. It was a 350 as well. And I considered the price was very reasonable.

Hey-ho, it's all dreaming. And perhaps if I dream long enough I will be given the critical lottery numbers for the next draw.
