The period of Winter hibernation will soon be over, and the motorcycling season will be upon us. Recenty we had a bright sunny Saturday, a good opportunity for a ride out on the JAWA, clean and shiny, fresh with its new MoT. Many others had the same idea, Loomies was full to bursting point, hardly even room to find space to park. Looking at the new Speedway season, the Premiership is well balanced between the 8 teams, impossible to pick a winner, or even a favourite. Several of the teams are reasonably spread across the Southern half of the country so it shouldn't be too difficult to get to meetings on weekday evenings, whether it be Poole, Rye House, Swindon, Somerset (Bridgwater) or Leicester. Of course Kings Lynn, Wolverhampton and Belle Vue are a bit of a strtetch and would need an overnight stay. Moving down to the third tier National League, we are well served in the South with the Isle of Wight, Eastbourne, Kent (Sittingbourne) all not being too much of a stretch, with Iwade chipping in with some competitive events too. As to Television, it is looking hopeful that BT will again do both the GPs/ International events as well as some Premiership League meetings. Whilst awaiting the surgeons knife, motorcycling has had to take a bit of a back seat lately, but all will be possible once a few weeks of recuperation have taken place, with a full Summer ahead. Having got the hang of life in the Southern Centre, there is quite a multitude of events to choose from. Three Winchester Moto Crosses, three Grass Tracks - Waterlooville, The National Wimborne Whoppa by Wimborne, and Danebury in October. In addition there will be a MX GP at Matterley Basin in June, Hill Climbs including motorcycles at Gurston Down, road racing at Castle Coombe and Thruxton, and various local runs eg Waterlooville Old Fossils and Two Stroke Club Runs etc. Brooklands too - another ride up the Test Hill would not go amiss. With Speedway included, especially local tracks Isle of Wight, Swindon, and Poole, there is already a full programme in place, probably too much when the exigencies of domestic life are taken into account. Not all are full on ACU events, not all involve the Southern Centre directly, but it's all motorcycling. There will be the odd clash of dates no doubt, the resurrected Langrish Club will be running a MAXXIS Round at Foxhills on the same day as the Whoppa I believe, which is a shame but there are only so many weekends in the Summer. For me too generally the less travelling the better, but most of the time hopefully it will be possible to avoid marathon journeys. Possibly the highlight of the year - and by far the longest trrip - will be to Northern Iralend, on the 125 Yamaha, where I will be hoping to make it as far North as The Giants Causeway, which is about as far as you can go. Just a reminder that the GRASA AGM will be on Saturday 17th March at the usual venue West Wellow Village Hall, West Wellow, SO51 6AP.Â

ACU RT Keeedwell British Solo Trials Championship Hookwood with the help of other local South Eastern Centre Clubs will run round one of the main ACU RT Keeedwell British Solo Trials Championship on Saturday 10th March 2018 (for the top adult solos and Youth Elite) at the Hookwood Trials Centre, West Horsley, KT24 6EA, start 9.30 am and directions signed
off the A246 at West Horsley, Surrey between Leatherhead and Guildford Parking is very limited please try and share transport Admission: as previous years £10 per adult under 18 no charge programmes £2. Some interesting new Rocky sections have been incorporated in the course of three laps of 12 sections with a 5.5 hour time limit. With so many budding UK trials riders emerging this
will be a day of spectacular Trials Riding in the South East. A caterer will be in attendance, please support Stay for the Riders award Presentation approx 20 mins after last rider finishing.
