We met Matt and Ruth in 2012 when they had just purchased a magnificent Victorian townhouse in Beckenham that was in need of remodelling to meet their families needs.

The old layout of the house was inefficient and disjointed. With smart design the lower ground floor that once consisted of a one bedroom apartment was reconfigured to become a desirable two bedroom apartment. Magically there was still enough space for a cinema room to be created at the lower ground floor for the benefit of the main house accessed via a ground floor concealed internal staircase.

The main house used to consist of

modest internal rooms with a really small kitchen. The internal spaces at the ground floor were remodelled in a sympathetic manner to provide better proportioned spaces that at the rear form a combined kitchen, dining area and a family room that is contained within a new extension lit by generous bi-folding doors and a contemporary roof lantern.

The family room and doorway from the dining area provide enhanced access to the garden with wonderful terraces providing external seating and dining areas.

The upper floors were completely replanned to provide wonderful sleeping accommodation to complete a truly exceptional, re imagined home.

AV Architects AV Architects was founded in 2010 by the husband and wife team of Neil Edwards and Estibaliz Buesa Diaz.

Neil and Esti met whilst working in the renowned RIBA Gold Medal winning practice of Scott Tallon Walker in Dublin, Ireland in 2001 and have worked together and collaborated with like minded designers and craftsmen ever since.

At AV Architects we deliver a more personal and bespoke service to our clients in Kent, London and the South East, building on experience gained from over 20 years in award winning practices in Europe and Asia.
