Definitely: Harry Potter, Phineas & Ferb, and Monsters vs Aliens. What does being a good neighbour mean to you? It means to help and support each other.

If you were a superhero, what would your powers be, and why? My super power would be love. If someone is upset I can make them instantly happy, because I have so much love to give.

What is your favourite sport? Do you play for any local teams? I play baseball, I am a Newmarket hawk! My team is awesome, and my dad is my coach, he’s the best.

What is your favourite song, artist/group or genre of music?

My favourite song is “High Hopes” by Panic at the Disco. I did a percussion performance of this song with my class, it just makes me smile and dance.

Greg Jones

What is your favourite season (winter, spring, summer, fall), and why?

My job is seasonal so I would say summer because it's warm, the trees are green and I love the

What is your favourite food?

Anything BBQ'd and everything free.

How long have you lived in the community?

I have lived in Newmarket for 4 years now, it's a friendly neighbourhood to live in.

If you were a superhero, what would your powers be, and why?

My powers would be super strength, the ability to fly and prune trees with my mind.

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be? Don't dye your hair blue!

Vaughan Moult

What is your most memorable community moment?

Co-leading a pain management workshop as a volunteer with Southlake Hospital, I really came to understand the value of volunteering.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Tuscany, Italy. It is a lush green area with incredible culture in every direction and some of the finest wines in the world. It’s central to most of Europe, with the ability to move around the country on high-speed rail.

What is your favorite food?

Italian food. It’s simple, yet complex in its taste. What more could one ask for. Plus, it is family oriented. What is your favourite season, and why?

Fall is my favourite time of year. The warm days and cool nights are more comfortable than the summer heat. The trees change colour and put on an incredible display.

What is your favourite holiday to celebrate?

Christmas. It is special for many reasons, but mostly for the gathering of family. It is magical to see the wide eyes of children as they help decorate the tree and watch the train as it circles the Christmas village display. It’s also a time to give. This year will mark the 50th annual Christmas Parade in Mount Albert, put on by the Mount Albert Lions.

Letter from MAYOR HACKSON

Hats off to our graduating neighbours!

Congratulations to all the future leaders across York Region graduating from elementary, secondary, and post-secondary school. No matter what stage you are at in life, graduation is a truly remarkable milestone, and you should all be very proud of your journeys and accomplishments. The lessons learned, friends made, and the experiences you encountered will forever be a part of you and will guide you as you begin a new and exciting chapter in your life.

Whether you are moving on to continuing education or pursuing your career goals, you will have more lessons to learn, will meet new friends and mentors and will embark on many new adventures and experiences.

A huge McTHANKS to Peter Miller, franchise owner, and his staff for another successful McHappy Day! Thank you also to the community leaders that came out to show their support by working a shift or collect donations and to the community members that purchased an item on the day. Peter split the funds raised on McHappy Day between 3 charities, Southlake, Mackenzie Health and Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada!

Summer vacation for many is a great time to explore activities that may ultimately shape your future. By this I am speaking of volunteer opportunities, or for some it may be a summer job. I can tell you that the sky is the limit when you’re passionate, hard-working, and willing to learn. The journey to continuous learning and new experiences are what will define your future and will guide you to finding what it is you enjoy and what it is you are passionate about. Be sure to connect with public libraries, local municipalities, and local groups/organizations to see what opportunities are available to volunteer. The Town has various volunteer opportunities available through the Engaged EG program. Visit our website at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/engagedeg for more information and to apply!

Have a safe and happy summer holiday, and I hope to see you at one of our many summer events!

All the best, Mayor Virginia Hackson
