It would be impossible for Abuse Hurts to single out one person as Champion of the Month for July and that’s because sometimes it takes a collective effort to make great things happen. In June, Abuse Hurts held a Spring fashion event, Designing Hope Fashion Affair…with an Italian Flair which was a huge success. But what an undertaking it was to bring all the elements together. The only way to reach that goal was with an army of volunteers. We’d like to acknowledge that army - from the leadership of an amazing event committee to the individuals that signed up to help in any way they could. We tip our hats and salute you!

Our incredible fundraising committee, of which all members got on board for the fashion show, also became the ‘event committee’ spearheaded by Teresa Kruze. We thank every one of them (you can find the list of names on our website under “…Events/Designing_Hope”. It was a lot of work but so much FUN with such a supportive creative and positive group of women.

Finally, the individual volunteers (names can also be found on the same web page) who weathered the tide and the waves and the wind…and went with the flow as the event evolved right before our eyes the night of. There are always unexpected circumstances and our fabulous volunteers ran with the changes like true champions. We are so thankful for this ‘collective’ as they helped produce something we never could have managed on our own.

Diego, Jenn and Keith are gearing up for another year volunteering for the Margaret Bahen Hospice “Tee Off for Hospice” charity golf tournament on August 24th. Carruthers Walker Financial is proud to support this event and our local hospice which is making a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their families through the hospice’s invaluable services, emotional support, and specialized care. There are many ways to get involved, including registering as an individual, twosome, threesome, or foursome! Can’t make the event? We have 50-50 tickets available! The Aurora Chamber of Commerce Annual Street Festival was a HUGE success! There were hundreds of vendors and 30,000 people in attendance - with something for everyone. We are already looking forward to next year's event!

Aurora Chamber of Commerce Board President Sandra Ferri and Chair, Al Wilson, were pleased to present both Alexander Moll and Daniel Rolinsky with $5,000 Scholarship cheques in support of their chosen career paths in Skilled Trades and Manufacturing at St. Maximillian Kolbe Catholic High School. Both students submitted very detailed and impressive applications. Congratulations Alexander and Daniel, we know you will go on to accomplish great things!
