They will be distributed to our heroes through a wonderful organization called We the People Giving Back.

Shifting to high tech learning, Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Shirreffs introduced the class to Video Conferencing, where this eager group of early childhood learners had the special treat of a video conference that took them around the world!

Santa Claus himself spoke with children from the North Pole and from each of the seven continents, including discussions of the different animals in each of their regions. LEGAL NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS Notice is hereby given taxpayers of the Town of Babylon, that the Undersigned Receiver of Taxes has received the 2015/2016 Tax and Assessment Roll and Warrant.

She will accept payment for taxes at her office in the Town Hall, 200 East Sunrise Highway, North Lindenhurst, N.Y. 11757 or by mail, beginning December 2015 daily between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Tax Office will be closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. First half taxes are due December 1st, 2015 payable to January 10th, 2016 without penalty.

After January 10th, 2016 one percent per month will be added on the first half to May 31st, 2016 after which date additional interest will be charged by the County Treasurer at her office at County Center, Riverhead, N.Y. 11901.

The Town of Babylon Tax Office will be accepting partial payments with penalty. We offer e-check and credit card payment through a telephone service or by the internet, which includes American Express, MasterCard, Visa or Discover. For payments by telephone, call 1.800.2PAYTAX (1.800.272.9829) or visit the web site at www.officialpayments.com. At the prompt, use Jurisdiction Code 4232.

You must have your item number and tax amount available. In addition, you can also pay through our new system, MuniTrax, where you can now view and pay your bill online. Visit www.townofbabylon. com. Transaction fees will be charged to the taxpayer based on the amount of the total charge for both MuniTrax and Official Payments.Total amount Warrant to be collected by the Receiver of Taxes for the 2015/2016 tax year is $698,835,658.59.

Taxes become a lien December 1st of each year. First and Second half payments may be made at the same time.

Heroism Award On Sunday, May 18th, Matthew J. Spadone was on his way home from Tanner Park. He witnessed a motorcycle with two people riding west on Montauk Highway get cut off by a dark-colored sedan. This caused the motorcycle to swerve into oncoming traffic; the passenger was thrown off and her leg was run over by the back tire of the bike.

Upon seeing this,

Matthew ran into the roadway where the passenger was laying and screaming in pain.

He yelled, “I have to get you out of the street!”

Meanwhile, the motorcycle driver had driven up over the sidewalk and fallen off the bike.

As cars were zooming by, Matthew pulled and rolled the passenger onto the sidewalk and straightened her body to

help give her some relief.

Someone called the Copiague Fire Department, and they took the passenger to Good Samaritan Medical Center. Upon arrival at the hospital, she informed the ambulance driver that a young man passing by, with glasses, a gray sweatshirt and backpack had pulled her to the sidewalk.

The driver of the ambulance recalled seeing Matthew at the

scene and recognized him as his neighbor, and contacted him when he got home. Matthew had not mentioned a word of the incident to his parents.

This spring, in Boy’s Life “Scouts in Action,” the story of Matthew’s good deed will be printed.

As a result of his actions, Matthew was recently honored with the Town of Babylon’s Highest Honor - Heroism Award.

Hour of Code West Babylon Junior High School students participated in the Hour of Code activities throughout the week of December 7th.

The activities reinforced concepts taught in other subject areas by integrating math, English language arts, science and technology standards.

Students spent more than two hours in the computer lab engaging in the tasks and writing code in a language called Java Script. The code enabled students to control

West Babylon JHS 6th grade students Bianca Bajaj and Keith Werner were Friday’s Hour of Code contest winners. They were the first to visit the school library with the correct answer: Malala Yousafzai was 17 years old when

she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. She is the youngest Nobel Laureate.

Students enjoyed participating in the Coding activities and although they had to think ahead, analyze, problem-solve (and at times ask for help)
