At Santapogue Elementary School in West Babylon, members of the student council, under the direction of adviser Sue Saldano, decided to help local food pantries in celebration of the 100th day of the school year. The goal was to collect 100 canned food items from members of the community, but the student council exceeded that goal by collecting 246 items. “The student council is thrilled to donate so much to the food pantry,” Ms. Saldano said in appreciation of the students’ efforts.

One of the most pain filled letters I ever received came from a young mother whose first-born had died of AIDS. She was overwhelmed with the depth of this loss.
