Health Is Focus Of Town Of Islip Senior Fair

The Town of Islip hosted a Health Fair at the Caesar Trunzo Senior Center.

Numerous agencies throughout the Town participated including Catholic Health, who provided Flu shots and various health screenings.

In attendance were Suffolk County Office for the

Aging; Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office; PSEG; National Grid; Alzheimer organizations; Elder Law attorneys; representatives from Assisted Living facilities; physical therapists offices and more.

“By hosting these types of events, we are

providing an opportunity for residents to gather important information and resources that enable them to make educated decisions about their healthcare needs, and thus live healthy, active, longer and more productive lives,” said Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter.

Everyone loves a good, old-fashioned yard sale.

The people of the Islip United Methodist Church, 350 Main Street, Islip, especially love yard sales!

For the past twelve years, the members of the Methodist Church have

held a huge, church-wide garage sale to raise money for their various mission projects.

This year, their Annual Fall Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Islip United Methodist

Church, 350 Main Street, Islip. There will be lots of items available. Just think about the treasures that might be found. The Church Thrift Shop will also be open from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

New Spooky Novel From West Islip Resident Just In Time For Halloween Lifelong West Islip resident Michael Thomas Perone recently published his second novel via Wheatmark Press titled Déjà View: A Kid Nightmare. Déjà View is a coming-of-age/ sci-fi novel set in the late 1980s. Moreover, it’s a spooky tale about ghostly doppelgangers haunting a young man

that’s perfect for the Halloween season. It is currently available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.com.

Mr. Perone’s debut novel, Danger Peak, was the recipient of multiple literary awards and was also featured on an electronic billboard in Times Square earlier this year.

Long Island Harley Owners Group Recognized For Their Service To The Community Legislator Steven J. Flotteron honored Director Pat O’Hara and Road Captain Joe Beige with The Long Island Harley Owners Group (LI HOG) Chapter # 3182 for all they have done for surrounding communities over the past 38 years at their Annual Picnic at Overlook Beach in Babylon. LI HOG was formed in October, 1985 and is an owners group authorized by Harley Davidson and sponsored by local dealer, Eastern Harley Davidson. LI HOG ran its first toy run for the benefit of the Little Flower Children Residence is Wading River on December 21, 1985. Since that first toy run they have organized and run this toy drive annually. It is believed to be the oldest and longest continuously run toy drive on Long Island.

In addition, for the past 15 years the members of LI HOG have raised money and made donations to purchase items for the residents of the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook, supplementing benefits not available through the Northport Veterans Association. Items such as socks, batteries, electric shavers, calling cards and movie passes are collected for Veterans in need. Each year, with a motorcycle escort, on the Sunday before Veterans Day the LI HOG delivers van loads of these items to the residents.

Legislator Steven Flotteron, Long Island Housing Partnership Announce Home-Buying Grant Program For Fire And Ambulance Volunteers

Up To $50,000 Available For Members For Home Purchase And Property Rehabilitation Through Program departments have worked to find ways to attract and retain new members and also keep them on Long Island. With real estate prices at record highs and inflation increasing, the dream of home ownership on Long Island is difficult to realize for most families, and many are leaving for other states.

“It is nearly impossible for existing and would-be volunteers to make ends meet and also have the time for the extensive training and work that it takes to protect our communities,”

said Flotteron. “Our hope is this program will allow them to own their own home while keeping them on Long Island and allow them to become involved in their communities.”

With his 35 years of financial and insurance experience, Flotteron discovered the program’s ability to be extended to volunteer personnel.

Fire and Ambulance departments would need to become affiliated with the program for their members to apply.

“Some of Long Island’s

largest employers have been providing this opportunity to their employees, and now we take another step to help more Long Islanders stay right here and raise their families,” said Britz.
