NEW GLOBAL “HOPE SPOT” - Shinnecock Bay on Long Island’s south shore has been named a global Hope Spot after successful restoration efforts over the past decade and its healthy and diverse natural conditions and wildlife.

The official naming took place at The Explorers Club and acknowledged the work of Pikitch and her colleagues at Stony Brook University’s SoMAS, where a team of scientists, educators and students worked together to revive the health, biodiversity, and aquaculture potential of Shinnecock Bay.
Additionally, the Shinnecock Bay area and surrounding lands has a long history to the Shinnecock Nation, whose reservation is located on the far eastern part of the bay. Leaders of the Shinnecock Nation have endorsed the designation of Shinnecock Bay as a HopeTheSpot.creation of “hard clam sanctuaries” in western Shinnecock Bay is a pivotal part of the restoration effort of the SoMAS Stony Brook University team. As a result of this work the dangerous brown and red tides that had been occurring annually have not been observed for several years. Landings of hard clams outside the sanctuaries have increased dramatically and are at a level not seen since the mid-1980’s. And, numbers of fish in the bay, most notably forage fishes such as bay anchovy and menhaden, have escalated.

CSI 5* And 2* Competitions
The Hampton Classic will host a live discussion on Clubhouse to discuss the new schedule and footing on Thursday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m. All are invited to participate. The footing is being installed by Travis Gould and his JTWG, Inc. It is engineered using the same state-of-the-art processes that were used for the new footing in the International Arena at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida and Tryon Stadium in Tryon, North Carolina, both of which have received rave reviews. The laboratory design and modeling of the footing for those “UltraCompetition” arenas was done by Bill Hawe, CEO of iEquiTek, LLC, who is overseeing the project for the Hampton Classic. The state-of-the-art processes being employed for the Hampton Classic by this team will also be used for the 2023 Longines FEI Jumping World CupTM Finals in Omaha.

The Over 50 Fair is excited to be back at its original location, the beautiful Melville Marriott, after being at two other venues for the last several years.This year’s event, its “lucky” 13th annual, on Sunday, September 18 from 10 AM -4:30 PM, will offer Baby Boomers, seniors and more opportunities to meet with exhibitors and attend classes geared toward them. The Over 50 Fair annually entertains and educates hundreds of LongEachIslanders.year,several dozen businesses and non-profits promote local products and services, including health and wellness, education, travel, and financial services, plus some less expected, such as a hypnotist and psychics. Some of this year’s 20+ classes include “How to Improve Your Dating and Sex Life After 50” by Maureen Tara Nelson, “Reiki” with Janis Abrams of Gentle Soul Discoveries, and “Organizing Your Entire Home” by Tina O’Keeffe of Stow and Behold. Additional classes will include Igniting Business After 50, a comedy show, and Immune System Boosting.Thisevent has built a loyal following due to its consistent presentation of various classes, products, and services they find appealing.Feedback from the attendees and exhibitors after the 2021 event was very positive. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that seasonal boat slips at the Robert Moses State Park East Marina are available for rent. Interested boaters can obtain an application to reserve a slip by visiting the Robert Moses State Park Office. The Robert Moses State Park East Marina has forty (40) boat slips, which are available from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. East Marina Seasonal slips will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and will be assigned by Robert Moses State Park. In the event the marina has reached capacity, you will be placed on the wait list.A seasonal boat slip costs $50 per foot. Slips can accommodate vessels up to 40 feet long with a maximum beam of 14 feet. Each slip has potable water, two cleats, and electric hook-up. The power source is 50 amps (50/125). Boaters must supply their own ropes, adapters, and extension cords. Each slip includes one vehicle parking permit. No overnight visitor parking will be permitted. Boaters who rent a slip during the 2022 season will automatically be renewed for the 2023 season.Robert Moses State Park is located at the south end of the Robert Moses Causeway and can be reached by the Ocean Parkway.
