Pencil it in. Erase it. And repeat. Such has been the state of my calendar for the last several weeks. Months, even.

I’m not sure when it became so difficult to plan things. Used to be a time when you could simply pick up the phone – yes, the actual phone – and call a friend to go to dinner, a movie, the beach, whatever.

Chances are, you also needed to coordinate a ride to said destination from a parental unit; but still, somehow, you made it happen.

Nowadays, such outings require about 30 days advance notice – and, even at that, will most likely be

rescheduled at least three times before materializing.

For some reason, the more methods of communication available, the more difficult it has become to maintain contact. Actual, personal contact. Sending a text, only to have it halfheartedly acknowledged four days later, is not quite the same as catching up over drinks.

Liking a Facebook status doesn’t indicate your genuine interest in another person’s life. Face-to-face conversation does.

I have always been the type of person who tries to keep in touch, the one reaching out, making plans, coordinating… And I don’t mind it, mostly. But when it feels as though it’s becoming more of a chore

than anything, well, perhaps it’s time to reevaluate.

Friendships, like the communication which they are based upon, are a twoway street.

Summer is a perfect season to reconnect, to socialize, to reunite with those long-lost, or perhaps just slightly lapsed, acquaintances. School is out, work schedules tend to be more lax, vacations are planned… and more often than not, it winds up being worth the wait.

If only it could be written in ink from day one.

Motorcycle Run More than 400 motorcycles with their riders and passengers - adding up to over 600 participants - took off from Stony Brook University Cancer Center on Sunday, July 17th for the 10th annual Sticky Finger Motorcycle Run. Gaspare Mannina, the beloved Babylon Village shoemaker, recently passed away.

Known as the “best repair man in the land,” Gaspare was the oldest and most respected Babylon Chamber member. He was the proud owner of Gaspare Shoe Repair for over 50 years, as well as an active member of the Babylon Lions Club.

Gaspare was kind to all, always waving to the passers-by in the neighborhood, and served as a role model to all in the community.

He is survived by his beloved wife Joanne Mannina, his children Lucy and Michael Domingo and Josephine Mannina, his grandchildren Anna, Giovanna and Alessandra Domingo.

On July 16th, at the Garden City Hotel’s Polo Lounge, Taylor Yaeger of Dix Hills was crowned Miss Long Island® Teen 2017 and Ashley Edwards of West Hempstead was crowned Miss Long Island 2017.

Both Queens will travel Long Island promoting their platforms and will volunteer with various non-profit organizations.

of Commack. Riker has been with the Long Island Pageants as a Coach and Producer since 2012 and Pinard is a former Miss Long Island Teen 2010.

As the new owners of this prestigious pageant system, Riker and Pinard plan to continue the legacy and high standard set by the founder of this pageant, Lori Thomas.

The Long Island Game

Farm, founded in 1970 by Stanley and Diane Novak, has been serving as a place of education and family fun for 47 seasons. The park features many interactive animal experiences, where guests can get up-close with their favorite animals; such as the pack of camels at the Camel Encounter, herd of deer in Bambiland and goats and other baby animals in the nursery. In addition, the Game Farm offers and an assortment of children’s amusement rides.
