Final Summer Food Collection Drive Friday, Sept. 15, At Stop & Shop, 575 West Montauk Highway, West Babylon

On Friday, Sept. 15, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island summer food collection drive comes to West Babylon.

Food collection bins and a drive-through option will be set up at the Stop & Shop supermarket at 575 West Montauk Highway, West Babylon, where members of the public can donate nonperishable items and household essentials for neighbors facing food insecurity. PSEG Long Island is giving out reusable shopping bags and LED lightbulbs as a thank you.

With your help and the generous donations of fellow Long Islanders, the initiative aims to collect the equivalent of 50,000 meals during July, August and September. Last year, thanks to your kindness,

the equivalent of more than 42,000 meals was collected for the Power to Feed Long Island initiative.

Hundreds of thousands of Long Island families struggle with hunger and food insecurity throughout the year. During the summer months, there is a significant reduction in food donations to local food banks, pantries and programs. Compounding the issue, children are not in school where they can receive free and reducedcost breakfast and lunch. In addition, the pandemic and the increased inflation rate have further strained local food pantries and emergency feeding programs served by Island Harvest.

Please consider donating some of the healthy foods you feed your own family, pet food or personal care

items, including: Nonperishable food (no glass jars, please): Healthy varieties of canned foods, such as low-sodium beans, vegetables, soups, pasta sauces and tomato varieties, tuna and chicken, along with rice, pasta, popcorn kernels, nut butters, olive and canola oil, spices and pet food.

Household essentials: Toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, laundry detergent and dish soap.

Personal care items: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner, feminine care products and shaving products, antibacterial wipes and washcloths.

Baby care items: Diapers, wipes, formula, creams, ointments and baby wash.

Get Lost In La La Land, Babylon’s Indoor Playground

I found myself committing to Mommy and Me classes that I knew I couldn’t physically attend, and I found it nearly impossible to juggle both work and these classes on an ongoing basis. I knew of some open play sessions that offered me the flexibility that I was looking for, but there was nothing less than 30 minutes away.” And with that, she thought of the idea of opening La La Land, an open play space located right in the heart of Babylon Village where you can “pay as you PLAY!” Plain and simple: no commitment or minimum number of classes required!

La La Land, an Indoor Playground located on East Main Street in Babylon Village, is nothing short of bright, clean and inviting. Since opening in October of 2022, they have truly made their mark on the local community, hosting many hands on classes for our little ones and gaining countless repeat customers.

“Prior to opening La La Land, I spent my entire career in marketing for various consumer packaged goods brands, with one of them being a baby products company,” said founder Christina Sciuto. “In that role, I learned how much research went into all aspects of childhood development and the positive impact that unstructured free play has on the growth and development of young children.”

When Christina became a first time mother in 2020, her life changed drastically and she realized first hand that importance of free play. “I wanted my daughter to be able to safely interact with other children and also explore a place that was different from her home. The problem here was that I was a working mom and establishments I found that offered classes, didn’t offer a lot of flexibility.

La La Land is open Monday-Friday for open play sessions and Parent + Me classes, along with Saturday and Sunday for birthday parties. During their open play time, your child can enjoy 90 minutes of fun, discovery and exploration for just $25 (+tax). Parents can enjoy sibling or “crawler” discounts as well. A light snack along with water/juice for each child and a self-serve coffee bar for adults is included in the pricing.

TCC And Wireless Zone To Donate 120,000 Backpacks With School Supplies Through Annual Give Back Event On July 30

Round Room, LLC., the nation’s largest Verizon Authorized Retailer, announces its TCC and Wireless Zone retailers will be donating 120,000 backpacks with school supplies through the 11th annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway. Since 2013, the School Rocks Backpack Giveaway has provided more than 1.3 million backpacks to children across the U.S. ahead of the upcoming academic year.

“Safety is PSEG Long Island’s No. 1 priority. That’s why we’re cautioning customers to please hold

“Though they’re festive, fun and look nice, we want the public to be aware that metallic balloons also conduct electricity. If they

get loose and come into contact with a power line or other electrical equipment, that could lead to power outages, fire and, possibly, injuries.”

To mitigate these risks, PSEG Long Island encourages the public to follow these safety

guidelines:

• Metallic balloons and other decorations should be kept clear of overhead power lines and equipment, and never purposely released into the air.

• All balloons with helium should be secured to weights that prevent them from

floating away.

• To properly dispose of a Mylar balloon, safely puncture it in several places to release the helium, and discard it in the trash.

• NEVER touch a power line. Do not attempt to retrieve a balloon, toy or anything caught in an

Town Of Babylon And Wounded Warrior Project Join Forces For

On Friday, July 14, 2023, the Town of Babylon, in partnership with Wounded Warrior Project, honored and participated with wounded U.S. military veterans in the Town’s 16th annual Soldier Ride. The event was inaugurated with a 9:00 AM ceremony featuring remarks from Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Wounded Warrior Danielle Green and

Hundreds of eager participants rode their bikes alongside wounded U.S. military veterans on the 25mile route from Babylon Town Hall to Overlook Beach and raise money for veterans service organizations.

After participants crossed the finish line, U.S. military veterans, their families and friends celebrated the completion of the ride with

a participation barbeque at Overlook Beach for the warriors and riders.

This is the 20th anniversary of Soldier Ride, and the Town of Babylon’s 16th annual event. Soldier Ride brings together the brave men and women who serve our country with local communities to form meaningful connections and raise money and awareness to aid veterans through their

recovery process. 40 warriors participated in this year’s Soldier Ride. Thirty warriors are Wounded Warriors, five warriors are from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and five warriors are from Blesma, the Limbless Veterans, in Great Britain. Throughout their 16 Soldier Rides, the Town of Babylon has raised over $1.5 million for Wounded

Warrior Project. Over 1,000 registered riders were expected for this year’s event, and the $50,000 fundraising goal has already been surpassed. The amount raised is up to $140,000 with donations still coming in. Proceeds of this year’s event will benefit Wounded Warrior Project and the Association for Mental Health and Wellness, a Hauppauge-

based organization with a nationally-lauded peer-topeer veteran mental health approach. For each of the Soldier Rides of the past several years, the Town of Babylon and Wounded Warrior Project have agreed for part of the proceeds to be donated to a Suffolk County veterans service organization in need, rotating to help a new group each year.
