“Stamp Out Hunger” 2023

On May 13, 2023, the West Islip Post Office Letter Carriers set out on their routes with two missions – 1 to collect and deliver all the mail for their customers and 2 to collect as much food for the annual NALC National Food Drive as they have done every second Saturday in May

for the past 31 years. With the help and cooperation of the Great West Islip Community our thirty (30) carriers set out in their 30 trucks and collected over 20,000 pounds of food to be distributed at local food banks. Our West Islip Carriers and Clerks worked tirelessly to make

this year’s food drive one of our best and they couldn’t have done it without every single person in the West Islip Community. Thank you to all of you for help from the West Islip Post Office “Stamp Out Hunger” 2023.

UDALL STUDENTS LEARN LIFESAVING TECHNIQUES - Seventh grade students at Udall Road Middle School in the West Islip School District are learning important lifesaving skills during their health class with Ms. Mileti. Students used dummies to practice CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, AED and other techniques used in the event of an emergency. They practiced both conscious and unconscious scenarios, working together to administer the different techniques. Music Festival Takes Over Country Club

Thousands turned out for the Town of Islip’s second annual Festival on the Fairway at Holbrook Country Club. The weather was picture perfect for the day-long festival which was enjoyed by children of all ages, and adults alike.

Bright Young Minds Explore Career Options

VOLUNTEER BREAKFAST CELEBRATES SENIORS - Each year, the Town of Islip Volunteer Breakfast pays tribute to all those senior volunteers who are kind enough to help out at their local senior centers. “These volunteers make valuable contributions to the success of the day-to-day schedules at our many Town of Islip Senior Centers,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Whether serving meals, calling BINGO, welcoming newcomers or assisting with parties, their contributions are essential, and this event is our way of saying ‘thank you,’” said the Supervisor. Supervisor Carpenter presented each volunteer with a Town of Islip Certificate acknowledging their volunteerism. The event was held at beautiful Brookwood Hall in East Islip.

At least two $1,000.00 Scholarships will be awarded to students who have had personal experience with homelessness. Students must be a current resident of Nassau or Suffolk County (unless already enrolled in college or trade school elsewhere, with a previous residence in Nassau or Suffolk Counties), and have attended elementary, middle and/or high school in Nassau or Suffolk Counties.

Applicants must enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study or other licensed vocational program no later than the fall session of 2024.

The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. They have proudly inducted over 120 music artists and related professionals who are recognized at their beautiful new Stony Brook location.

Music Education plays a signiﬁcant role in the lives of many. In addition to granting thousands of dollars in music scholarships to individuals each year, LIMEOF goes above and beyond to keep the love of music alive and well for students. One of the ways they do so is through aligning with the TeachRock program.

Launched by Stevie Van Zandt and the Founders Board of Bono, Jackson Browne, Martin Scorsese and Bruce Springsteen, this program provides free, standards-aligned resources that use music to help K-12 students succeed in science, math, social studies, language arts and more. Nearly 60,000 educators representing all 50 states are registered at Teachrock.org. The program aspires to:

•Keep the arts in the DNA of school systems

•Empower teachers with a methodology to engage young students

•Create inclusive spaces through the arts by providing teachers well researched, abundanceframed classroom resources featuring positive representations of all Americans

•Increase graduation rates
