Their Northeast Region (Long Island Chapter) is located right in Medford, however they have six regions across the country and serve all 50 states.
Did you know that National Puppy Day is March 23rd? Canine Companions will be celebrating with a live puppy cam from 9ammidnight, featuring eight-week-old future service dogs. You can tune in to watch this litter of very special puppies as they romp and play, eat and sleep and begin their lifechanging journeys. West Islip Public Library Budget Vote To Be Held
On Tuesday April 4
The West Islip Public Library Board of Trustees has proposed an operating budget of 4,325,300 for 2023-2024 which will be voted on by residents on Tuesday, April 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Library. Approval of the budget will result in a tax appropriation of $4,250,300, an increase of 1.99% and well within the Tax Cap calculated for the Library. The Budget/ Annual Report issue of the library newsletter, The Source, will be mailed to the community with details concerning the budget and the April 4 vote, about two weeks prior to that date.
The proposed library budget recognizes both importance of maintaining the library as a valuable resource for
the community and the challenges facing local taxpayers. The budget calls for increases in funding for children’s programs and activities, utilities and maintenance contracts, and a modest increase in salary and benefits.
The library tax rate would increase approximately 2%, with the result that the average homeowner could expect to pay about $8.86 more in library tax in the next year. “The Library Board realizes that while any budget increase is of concern to taxpayers” said Library Director Andrew Hamm, “this budget will result in a library tax rate that is still less than it was three years ago due to the elimination of the debt

BRIANNA’S LAW has passed and is being implemented in five annual stages that began on January 1, 2020 – depending on the age of the boat captain. All power boat operators will be required to obtain a NASBLA approved Safe Boating Certificate by January, 2025, regardless of age. So, now is the time to sign up for a Safe Boating Course to fulfill this requirement and to keep you, your friends, and family, as well as other boaters safe on our great waterways.

Offered by America’s Boating Club of the Great South Bay, you may register for one of these “America’s Boating Courses” on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 9:30am to 12:30pm, April 22, 2023 from 9:30am to 12:30pm, and April 29, 2023 from 9:30am to 1:30pm. All classes will be held at the West Islip Library, 3 Higbie Lane, West Islip, NY 11795, and is available for adults and youth who are at least a 7th Grade reading level.

A Public Information Meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday,
March 28 at 7:30pm to go over the proposed budget and answer any questions. Applications for absentee ballots are available at the Library Director’s Office or the Adult Reference Desk.
Other events planned for Tuesday, April 4 at West Islip Public Library include an all-day $4 a bag book sale, Shredding Day from 11am-3pm, and a 7pm performance of Penny Lane playing the music of the Beatles, as well as a number of story times and craft programs for children.
