New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso will be hosting a free Shed The Meds drop-off event, in coordination with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the West Islip Public Library located at 3 Higbie Lane in West Islip.

Residents looking to get rid of unwanted or expired medications are invited to drop them off at the library for proper disposal by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.

All medications should be kept in their original containers or placed in a ziplock bag.

Accepted items include prescription medication, prescription patches, over the counter medications, and vitamins.

Items NOT accepted include needles, sharps, or liquid medications.

PSEG Long Island applauds the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City for making a commitment to the environment with a project estimated to reduce the museum’s energy usage by more than 400,000-kilowatt hours per year. That translates to approximately $70,000 per year in energy costs.

The museum earned $115,696 in energy efficiency rebates from PSEG Long Island for installing more than 800 new LED lighting fixtures and LED lightbulbs in the main galleries of the aerospace museum.

“PSEG Long Island commends the Cradle of Aviation Museum for replacing its lighting throughout the museum with energy efficient LEDs,” said Michael Voltz, director of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for PSEG Long Island. “By making this significant upgrade, we were able to provide the museum with a significant rebate, and the exhibits look great with the new lighting.”

“We are immensely grateful to the PSEG Long Island Energy Efficiency program for its invaluable support in enabling the Cradle of Aviation Museum to transition from outdated tungsten lighting to energy efficient LED lights,” said Jennifer Baxmeyer, executive director, Cradle of Aviation Museum. “The new lighting not only enhances the visual clarity of our exhibits, it also significantly improves our preservation of artifacts and reduces our carbon footprint.”
