The Charity of the Month for December is EAC Network

EAC Network is a non-proﬁt organization that empowers, assists and cares for individuals in need. Their objective is to reach individuals within our community through innovative programs that improve quality of life. They have ﬁve service areas:

Children & Youth: Their Children & Youth services work deeply with children who are victims of child abuse and neglect or who are involved in the foster care system or child trafﬁcking. They provide supervised visitation between noncustodial parents and their children, promote child passenger safety and offer mentors for at-risk youth.

Family & Community: EAC Network’s Family and Community programs help individuals pay bills, resolve family and business conﬂicts and navigate through obstacles that hinder selfsufﬁciency.

Senior & Nutrition Services: EAC Network is a provider of Meals on Wheels. They act as guardians for seniors, as well as mentally and/or physically incapacitated individuals, who are unable to manage aspects of daily life on their own. Their senior centers provide warm meals, exercise and social interaction to local seniors. They also offer technology classes as well as trained companions to relieve caregivers.

Vocational Services: Their Vocational Services offer a variety of programs that provide participants with skills to obtain and retain employment, particularly with at-risk populations.

Behavioral Health & Criminal Justice Services: They offer Behavioral Health programs that work in tandem with the criminal justice system to help

individuals suffering from mental health and/ or substance abuse issues obtain treatment. They also offer programs for Anger Management, Community Service and educational intervention for domestic violence offenders, and more.

Within those five areas of service, they run a total of 103 programs and they serve over 50,000 people a year with offices in all five boroughs, Suffolk County, Nassau County and Rockland County!

Wreaths Across America Announces Major Donation From Jersey Mike’s Subs And Issues Challenge To The Public

National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) is proud to announce that Jersey Mike’s Subs, a fast-casual sub sandwich franchise with more than 2,300 locations nationwide, has made a $300,000 donation and issued a challenge to help raise funds to sponsor veterans’ wreaths for placement at Arlington National Cemetery.

Through this generous donation, Jersey Mike’s has once again stepped up to help WAA reach its goal of placing a live balsam remembrance wreath at the headstone of every one of the nation’s veterans buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Starting Dec. 1, through Wed., Dec. 14, 2022, every $15 wreath sponsorship made at www. wreathsacrossamerica.org/ JerseyMikes will be matched by the company, up to $300,000.

Mike’s has supported WAA’s mission with contributions totaling more than $3 million dollars. Last year, across the country more than 2.4 million sponsored veterans’ wreaths were placed in honor of veterans, including on all the markers of those buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Jersey Mike’s franchisees across the country support the yearlong mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach, through a variety of programs.

Babylon Soccer Teams Are Suffolk County Champs

Babylon’s boys and girls varsity soccer teams have been named Suffolk County champions for the fall 2022 season. This great accomplishment came after a season of hard work and success for the Panthers.

The varsity girls team made it to the championship game with an overall record of 8-8 for the season, ultimately prevailing against Center Moriches 2-1 for the title. “Our goalie Ava Hanson was outstanding, and our

leading goal scorer, Ashley Bell, scored an amazing 20 goals,” said Coach Olivia Stenger. “As a new coach in the program, I knew right away there was a lot of talent on this team. I knew our season was going to be a bit challenging, but our goal as a team was to get to the county championship and beat Center Moriches.”

This was the third straight season in which the boys varsity team earned the county title, coming through with an overall record of 16-3. The

team overcame great odds: the preseason coaches’ poll predicted the Panthers would only finish 4th place in the league. “A huge part of our success was the emergence of our younger players,” said Coach Dennis McGovern. “We also had the experience of our senior group, which has compiled a 43-8 record over the last three years and winning a Long Island Championship last year as well.”

Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach

program of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985. “We assist more than 2,500 children and their families each
