This may cause your gutters to fall off your home, leaving your house vulnerable to leaks and cracks. Finally, make sure that all your windows and doors can lock & are airtight. Water should not be able to infiltrate through these openings. Make sure the soil around your window wells is loose and able to absorb water so no flooding can occur. P.O. Marotta Retires After 28 Years Of Service

Town officials stopped by the Suffolk County 1st Pct. on July 10th to wish Police Officer Margery “Margie” Marotta congratulations on her retirement from the Suffolk County Police Department after 28 years of exceptional service to the First Precinct! Supervisor Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Martinez, and Councilman McSweeney said they were proud to

join her and many others as she left the precinct for the last time earlier that week.

Best known for leading the Law Enforcement Explorers as an Explorer Post Advisor, Officer Marotta devoted much of her career to crime prevention, and helping residents learn emergency preparedness methods. Many kids who grew up

in the Town of Babylon over the last two decades will also recognize Officer Marotta as she served our schools as a School Resource Officer for much of her career.

The Town Board said they would like to extend its best wishes to Police Officer Marotta on her wellearned retirement. Thank you for your service and commitment to Babylon!

West Babylon STEM Lesson Works To Withstand The Elements

STEM LESSON WORKS TO WITHSTAND THE ELEMENTS - On July 13, students in the West Babylon School District’s summer elementary program engaged in a STEM learning activity. The students in Ms. Cacciuttolo and Ms. Santorelli classes joined together for a buddy STEM lesson to create a tent that could withstand the elements. Students created a blueprint of how they were going to build the tent out of different materials provided before getting to work on their creations. Town Of Babylon Receives Funding To Fuel Infrastructure Improvements

Award From BRIDGE NY To Enhance Phelps Lane Culvert

The Town of Babylon recently received funding from New York State’s BRIDGE NY initiative to replace a crucial culvert in the community. The BRIDGE NY initiative combats climate change through the support of projects that reduce the risk of flooding, improving structure resiliency

and enhancing regional economic status as well. As part of the recent funding announced by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, the Town was awarded $1.96 million to replace the Phelps Lane culvert carrying the tributary to Carlls River in Suffolk County.

Nine Babylon Seniors Receive New York State Seal Of Biliteracy

Nine members of Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s Class of 2023 have received New York State Seals of Biliteracy. The students— Caroline Cassidy, Olivia Cavallo, Olivia Conti, Jackson Esposito, Nico Giammarino, Jameson Howard, Matthew Nyman, Lisa Petraitis, and Madeline Romaine— underwent a rigorous testing process to achieve this distinction and demonstrate their biliteracy. For their accomplishments, the students received certificates, medals to be worn at their graduation ceremonies, and a seal on their diplomas.

To receive their seals, the nine students had to complete requirements in English as well as in either

French or Spanish. The state requires that they have high achievement on the ELA Regents, take an AP English course, and score a 3 or better on the exam along with high grades in the course. For the world language, they needed to take a Checkpoint C language course with above-average achievement. Students also had to write and research a scholarly essay, which they presented to a panel of language teachers who questioned them on specific points presented in the paper. This project was used to assess their writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills at the intermediate high level according to the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language scale. Finally,

successful candidates were recommended by

an English and a world language teacher to complete the process.
