In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. They have been named one of America’s longest-married couples by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

THE LEGACY PROJECT - Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Deputy Supervisor Martinez recently joined with the West Babylon Lions Club, as well as fellow elected officials and community members, to dedicate the Legacy Project at the West Babylon Community Youth Center on Sawyer Avenue. The Legacy Project serves to commemorate the Lions Club Centennial by allowing community members to purchase a decorative, personalized brick to honor loved ones, community members or local businesses. Supervisor Schaffer and Deputy Supervisor Martinez thanked the members of the West Babylon Lions Club for their work in creating a new community monument in the Town of Babylon with the Legacy Project.

Miracle on 34th Street, The Musical, a holiday classic from the writer of the musical theatre classic, The Music Man!, based on the movie of the same name, Miracle on 34th Street features a book and score by none other than Meredith Willson. Single mother, Doris Walker, doesn’t want her six-year-old Susan’s head filled with romantic notions. Their neighbor, Fred Gailey, tries to woo Doris by charming Susan and taking her to see Santa Claus at Macy’s, where Doris works. Doris is not impressed, but when it turns out that Macy’s Santa may, in fact, be the real Kris Kringle, a wave
of love spreads across New York City that melts even the most cynical hearts. Filled with humor, spectacle and such beloved songs as “Pinecones and Hollyberries,” “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and “My State, My Kansas,” this joyous, heartwarming musical is perfect for the family this holiday season! “I love the movie Miracle on 34th Street with a young Natalie Wood and love it even more in a musical form for the stage with our wonderful cast,” stated director Evan Pappas. “We are all having such a fantastic time with the holiday spirit this show brings and we’re excited to bring this delightful show to The Argyle.” The creative team includes Set Design by Audrey Vuong, Costume Design by Matsy Stinson, Wig Design by Peter Fogel, Lighting Design by John Salutz, and Sound Design by Carlos Dias, Jr. The Technical Director is Michael Kauffman. The Charity of the Month for December is: John Theissen Children’s Foundation www.jtcf.org
John Theissen Children’s Foundation began after their Executive Director & Founder, John Theissen, had stayed at Schneider’s Children’s Hospital in New Hyde Park when he was 17 years old. John needed to have brain surgery for a brain tumor that he unfortunately developed. The day he walked into the hospital he met a 7 year old girl named Tasha. She spent many hours with John for the next few days, always trying to make him happy. Tasha received very little family support, however she expected her family to attend a holiday party that was sponsored by the hospital staff. Unfortunately they did not attend. John was too ill to take her, so his family did. When Santa asked her what she had wanted she replied, “I would like a teddy bear for my friend upstairs.” John felt fortunate to be that friend. Tasha’s positive attitude and generous spirit inspired John. Once he got out of the hospital he wanted to help children just like her. In 1992, John held a toy drive during the holiday season to benefit children in local hospitals. During this first drive, he collected over 800 new toys in just 2 weeks! That was

Holiday Season Helping Sick & Underprivileged Children! the beginning of what has become the year round organization, John Theissen Children’s Foundation. Since 1992, this organization has collected over 1 million new toys and have donated them to sick and underpriviledged children in over 180 hospitals and child-care facilities. However, this Foundation does more than just collect and distribute toys. They also provide hospitals and childcare facilities with therapeutic and recreational equipment, support families with financial assistance to defray medical expenses, fulfill patient’s wishlists throughout the year (for those 18 years of age and younger) and they assist sick and underpriviledged children in other ways that are needed. On December 5th at 6:30PM, John Theissen Children’s Foundation will be hosting A Night of Champions Holiday Gala! This Gala will feature one of New York’s biggest and best live auctions, great raffles, door prizes, gourmet dishes provided by 2nd Street Gourmet, desserts provided by Francesco’s Bakery and a VIP Lounge Meet & Greet with celebrity professional athletes. Admission is $50 and VIP admission is $350. To purchase a ticket, please visit

of the West Babylon Chamber of Commerce for the grand opening of Gino’s Pizzeria, located at 90 Route 109 in West Babylon. A special ribbon cutting ceremony was held

North Babylon Board Honors Hero, Tenure Recipients It was a night of celebration at the North Babylon School District’s Nov. 21 Board of Education meeting, as members of the board recognized a local hero and awarded two staff members with certificates of tenure. Security guard Lawrence Knappe was commended
for his acts of heroism that saved a man’s life in a house fire on Oct. 23. Town of Babylon Councilman Terence McSweeney was also in attendance at the meeting and presented Knappe with a certificate of appreciation for his quick actions that day. The district was also
proud to present special education teacher Christine Long and Assistant to District Administrator for Special Education Alyssa Imhof with certificates of tenure for exhibiting hard work and dedication in their positions.
