- West Babylon School District invited local real estate agents to a breakfast at the district’s central office on Nov. 10. Invited guests learned about the district’s many different offerings and opportunities. Joined by West Babylon administrators, West Babylon School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly spoke about some of the district’s highlights – including its high graduation rate, Advanced Placement offerings, and extracurricular activities. In addition, invited realtors were given a brochure to present these facts and information to potential homebuyers in the area. Tis The Season For Giving

On Monday, November 21, 2022, Noelle Lambert and The Bryn Elliott Team launched a Holiday Donation Drive, benefitting the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, an organization that strives to end homelessness on Long Island, and to alleviate the issues associated with homelessness and poverty for homeless and at risk persons in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

“I’ve always been passionate about helping others, but more specifically assisting the homeless is really important to me,” said Noelle, Licensed Real Estate Salesperson with Douglas Elliman Real Estate. “When you strip away all the excess and get down to the basics - the minimum that one should have in order to put their best foot forward every day - what remains is a home, along with food, and the like. There are countless people struggling and facing homelessness right now on Long Island and it just feels like the right thing to do to help them.”

The drive will run through December 19th and has five drop-off locations throughout Long Island. “This year the organization is desperately in need of non perishable food and personal care items,” said Bryn Elliott, Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker with The Bryn Elliott Team at Douglas Elliman Real Estate. “They’re also looking for clothing, socks and winter coats. We’re hopeful that this drive will make a difference by helping people who need it; especially during the toughest time of the year to be homeless.”

Town Of Babylon Councilman Anthony Manetta Launches Chamber Of Commerce Collaborative

The Town of Babylon initiated its Chamber of Commerce Collaborative with a meeting on Thursday, November 10 between the executive board members of various chambers of commerce located throughout the Town. This new initiative aims to bring together the common interest of the Town’s chambers to launch joint events and programming, including events with the SBA, throughout the year with the ultimate goal of enhancing small business growth and generating more networking opportunities.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and as revitalization continues to be a priority within the Town, it is imperative that we collaborate with one another to maximize benefits for local

businesses,” said Town of Babylon Councilman and Small Business Committee Chairman Anthony Manetta. “The Chamber Collaborative effort will bring together new ideas, help to solve common problems and serve as a thinktank to bolster the growth of small businesses in the Town of Babylon.”

The Town of Babylon Chamber Collaborative also serves to produce a dialogue of shared ideas and improvement between the chambers.

Part of these discussions includes how to increase membership and small business participation and drive new revenue growth for members.

Among its wide range of mentalhealth-related services, MHAW offers many forms of assistance for veterans in Suffolk County. These offerings address affordable housing, medical and mental health assistance, peer support, and other services.

To allow readers to get a humanscale picture of the real-life ways that MHAW supports local veterans in need, here are the stories of “John” and “Mary.”

“John” had served our country for more than eight years as a Marine, including witnessing the aftermath of the Beirut barracks bombings in 1983 that had killed 241 American personnel and dozens of others.

He proceeded to face major difficulty adapting to post-service life, and used food to help him cope. John became significantly overweight and homeless, with a hotel as his residence for two years. It was nearly impossible to find a house that accommodated his needs until he connected with “Housing Our Homeless Heroes,” an initiative that helps veterans regain their sense of independence with supportive housing.

Happily, John is now living in a stabilized environment with dignity and respect.

As a second example, “Mary” had been discharged from the service last August, had no income, nowhere to go, and unfortunately was living in her car. She reached out to the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, run in collaboration with the Economic

Opportunity Council (EOC) of Suffolk, a Patchoguebased social services organization.

Mary worked with

the SSVF team to locate and obtain permanent housing. She also worked with a case manager and a health care navigator to apply for the VA’s service-connected disability program, where she was approved for 100-percent compensation. Mary was also connected to the Northport VA Medical Center, where she began receiving health care. In addition, Mary worked with an employment specialist who assisted her with her resume, job search, and interview prep.

As a result, Mary ultimately secured a full-time job. She has expressed her gratefulness to MHAW and to EOC of Suffolk for the critical assistance she received at the time when she needed it most.

After all they have given to America, our veterans deserve support from all of us here in Suffolk County and across the nation. With this in mind, we urge you to play a role in introducing local veterans in need to MHAW.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Education of the West Babylon Union Free School District, in the County of Suffolk, New York, has adopted a resolution on September 28, 2022, authorizing a Special District Meeting of the qualified voters of said School District to be held on

Tuesday, December 6, 2022 between the hours of 7:00 o’clock A.M. (Prevailing Time) and 9:00 o’clock P.M. (Prevailing Time), at the following voting places: (1) Board Room of the Administrative Wing of the Senior High School, 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, New York, for those persons residing in Election District No. 1 and (2) Santapogue Elementary School, 1130 Herzel Boulevard, West Babylon, New York, for those persons residing in Election District No. 2; for the purpose of voting upon the following Bond Proposition:

(a) That the Board of Education of the West Babylon Union Free School District, in the County of Suffolk, New York (the “School District”), is hereby authorized to (i) reconstruct and/or replace the roof at the West Babylon Senior High School, at the estimated maximum cost of $7,450,000 and (ii) replace the water service line and condensate tank; construct driveway, parking lot, drainage, asphalt, pavement, curb, lighting and sidewalk improvements; reconstruct the west playground and install new basketball hoops at South Bay Elementary School, at the estimated maximum cost of $2,250,000 (collectively, the “Project”), substantially as described in a plan prepared by BBS Architects, Landscape Architects, and Engineers, PC, Patchogue, New York (the “Plan”), which Plan is on file and available for public inspection at the office of the District Clerk; all of the foregoing to include all original equipment, furnishings, machinery, apparatus and ancillary or related site, demolition and other work required in connection therewith; and to expend therefor, including preliminary costs and costs incidental thereto and to the financing thereof, an amount not to exceed the estimated total cost of $9,700,000; provided that the estimated costs of the components of the Project as set forth in the Plan may be reallocated among such

components if the Board of Education shall determine that such reallocation is in the best interests of the School District;

(b) that a tax is hereby voted therefor in the amount of not to exceed $9,700,000 to finance such cost, such tax to be levied and collected in installments in such years and in such amounts as shall be determined by said Board of Education; and

(c) that in anticipation of said tax, the Board of Education may authorize the issuance of bonds of the School District in the principal amount of not to exceed $9,700,000 and a tax is hereby voted to pay the interest on said bonds as the same shall become due and payable. Such Bond Proposition shall appear on the ballot used for voting at said Special District Meeting in substantially the following abbreviated form:

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that personal registration of voters is required and no person shall be entitled

to vote at said Special District Meeting to be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 whose name does not already appear on the register of said School District, or who does not register as hereinafter provided, except as may otherwise be provided by the Laws or Regulations of the State of New York. (Prevailing Time) and shall be available at the polling places on the day of the vote. que no exceda los $9,700,000 y por la presente se vota un impuesto para pagar los intereses de dichos bonos a medida que éstos venzan y sean pagaderos. Dicha propuesta de bonos aparecerá en la boleta electoral utilizada para la votación en dicha reunión especial del distrito en forma sustancialmente abreviada:

PROPUESTO DE BONOS SI NO

RESUELTO:

(a) Que la Junta de Educación del Distrito Escolar Libre de West Babylon, en el condado de Suffolk, Nueva York (el “Distrito Escolar”), por la presente se autoriza a (i) reconstruir y/o reemplazar el techo en la West Babylon Senior High School y (ii) reemplazar la línea de servicio de agua y el tanque de condensación; construir calzadas, aparcamientos, desagües, asfalto, pavimento, bordillos, iluminación y mejoras en las aceras; reconstruir el patio de recreo oeste e instalar nuevas canastas de baloncesto en la escuela primaria South Bay, y gastar en ello la cantidad total que no exceda de 9.700.000 dólares; (b) que por la presente se vota un impuesto por la cantidad que no exceda de $9,700,000; para financiar dicho costo, dicho impuesto se impondrá y recaudará en cuotas en los años y en las cantidades que determine dicha Junta de Educación; y (c) que en previsión de dicho impuesto, se autoriza por la presente la emisión de bonos del Distrito Escolar por la cantidad principal que no exceda de $9,700,000; y por la presente se vota un impuesto para pagar los intereses de dichos bonos a medida que éstos venzan y sean pagaderos.

La votación se llevará a cabo mediante el uso de máquinas de votación o boletas de papel según lo dispuesto en la Ley de Educación y las urnas permanecerán abiertas entre las 7:00 a.m. (hora prevaleciente) y las 9:00 p.m. (hora prevaleciente) y todo el tiempo que sea necesario para que los votantes presentes puedan emitir su voto.

Y SE NOTIFICA POR LA PRESENTE, que se requiere la inscripción personal de los votantes y ninguna persona tendrá derecho a votar en dicha Junta Especial del Distrito que se realizará el martes 6 de diciembre de 2022 cuyo nombre no figure ya en el registro de dicho Distrito Escolar, o que no se inscriba como se dispone a continuación, salvo que

las Leyes o Reglamentos del Estado de Nueva York dispongan lo contrario. Todas las personas que deseen votar y no estén incluidas en el registro existente deben registrarse en la Junta Electoral del Condado de Suffolk presentando una solicitud en línea en el Departamento de Vehículos Motorizados del Estado de Nueva York: https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/ electronic-voter-registrationapplication.

Y ADEMÁS SE NOTIFICA, que si un votante está registrado de acuerdo a §2014 de la Ley de Educación en el Distrito Escolar Libre de West Babylon y es elegible para votar bajo el Artículo 5 de la Ley de Elecciones, él o ella también es elegible para votar en esta Reunión Especial del Distrito que se realizará el 6 de diciembre de 2022. Woods Road Pays Tribute To Veterans

WOODS ROAD PAYS TRIBUTE TO VETERANS - Woods Road Elementary School in the North Babylon School District paid tribute to veterans with a ceremony held at the school on Nov. 9. Sailor Dabney Brignoni shared words with students about being kind and how they are the future. North Babylon interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Larry Aronstein spoke about the history of Veterans Day and the bravery of the men and women who join the armed forces. Get A Better Night’s Sleep

(NAPSI)—If you ever find yourself lying awake at night, you’re not alone— even if no one else is in the room. That’s because, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-quarter of the

U.S. population reports occasionally not getting enough sleep, while nearly 10 percent experience chronic insomnia.

Why To Sleep

Good sleep, says the CDC, can decrease the risk of sickness and weight

gain. It helps you think more clearly, decreases stress, and leaves you more energetic and productive. As these qualities improve, relationships tend to improve, too.

Lack of sleep can be a problem on the job, too. A study by the Law Enforcement Survival Institute showed that in a computer simulated shoot/ don’t shoot situation, fatigued police officers were more likely to shoot when not necessary.

What To Do

Many sleep specialists recommend these four steps:

1. Don’t drink caffeine late in the day.

2. Make sure your bedroom is a quiet, dark and relaxing environment; neither too hot nor too cold.

3. Make sure your bed is comfortable and don’t use it for reading, watching TV or listening to music.

4. Take a bath before bedtime.
