The Respite Care Relief Park is the first of its kind in the United States. Located next to Babylon Town Hall, it is a peaceful, scenic, dementia-friendly place where caregivers can go to take a break and enjoy the outdoors, as well as feel comfortable bringing a loved one with Alzheimer’s or another dementiarelated illness. The Park includes educational information about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, along with benches, a brick walkway, a gazebo and landscaping. Docking stations are also available where people can plug in phones to play music, which often aids in memory and brain stimulation.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), together with the Town of Babylon, will be hosting an “Alzheimer’s Walk in the Park” on Saturday, October 19th, from 10 am to 1 pm (rain date October 20th).

The event will take place at the AFA-Town of Babylon Respite Care Relief Park (200 East Sunrise Highway, Lindenhurst), which serves residents with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. Proceeds raised from the event will support Long Islanders living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Individuals of all ages are invited to take part in the walk to raise Alzheimer’s awareness and support local families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. The family-friendly event will also feature health and wellness activities, music, entertainment, children’s activities and refreshments.

Free, confidential memory and hearing screenings will also be offered.

They are holding their 25th Annual Beer, Wine, Food and Dessert Expo on Thursday, November 7th at The Piermont from 7:30PM-10:30PM. This is their biggest event of the year, typically attracting between 650-700 guests. The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual e v e n t (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity.

They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares.

This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event.

The Babylon Little League will hold its 5th annual Hits for Hunger event with the boys and girls of the league, ages 5-12, on Friday, October 18, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Locust Ave. fields to raise funds and food donations for the local community.

The event will be a fun family night out for a good cause with all funds and donations supporting local families in need.

Senior Advocate Schedule Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Fall 2019 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”

This Fall, Senior Advocates will be visiting the following locations in the Town of Babylon: • Deer Park Library, 44 Lake Avenue, Deer Park: Friday, November 15, 9 – 11 am • North Amityville
