Montauk Classic Surf Fishing Tournament
Attention all anglers! The 2022 Montauk Classic Bluefish & Striped Bass Surf Fishing Tournament will begin at Noon, Friday, September 30, 2022 and continue until Noon, Sunday, October 2, 2022 Fish must be landed from the beach, surf, jetty, bank or pier beginning at the western most tip of Napeague State Park and encompassing all points east.Paulie’s Tackle in Montauk will be the official weigh in station for the tournament. Prizes will be awarded to the three largest bluefish and the three largest striped bass hooked There will also be an award for the three largest released striped bass. New York State minimum qualifying weight and size limits will be in effect. Only one prize per person, per species will be awarded.

Mr. Haubrich got his start in 1998 as a middle school teacher for the Port Washington Union Free School District. There, he became heavily involved in school activities such as student government, soccer and other various school programs. “It became my life and I loved it,” he recalled.

“From there I thought about ways to affect change on a larger scale and moved into the administrative track,” he said. In 2005 he became an elementary school assistant principal for the Half Hollow Hills Union Free School District, and in 2007, principal in the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District, where he spent 14 years in that role. In 2021, Mr. Haubrich briefly served as a principal in the Dorchester
solidarity to send strength and love to friends, neighbors and families who carry the loss of loved ones all year round. This year’s Drive Thru Drive the Change service was visited by 28 cars and 55 pounds of medication was collected for safe disposal.
“I am excited to be here, and to serve this tight-knit school community,” Mr. Haubrich said. “Coming into a new district, my first steps are to get to know the students, parents and staff

Mr. Haubrich received his bachelor’s in human development and family studies from Cornell University, his master’s in elementary education from Boston University and a certificate of advanced study in educational administration from Hofstra University. He was inspired to pursue a career in education while an undergraduate after observing a group of excited young teenagers at a Harlem Globetrotters basketball game. “I realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life around kids like this, and my interest deepened from there,” Mr. Haubrich said. “As I began studying to become a teacher, my passion for public education developed. The Babylon Union Free School District has hired Jeffrey Haubrich as principal of Babylon Memorial Grade School. He brings 24 years of experience in education to the district, including 17 years in administrative roles.
As he acclimates himself to the new school and district, Mr. Haubrich said his initial focus is ensuring student wellbeing and building upon that foundation. “There are many components to education that I am passionate about,” he said. “For me, student wellbeing is a major foundation. That’s day one. We’ll grow programs from there.”
Rosemarie Mccarthy, the Founder of Harmony Cafe, grew up in a working-class family, where money was tight and food insecurity was sometimes a cause of stress. Her vision for this organization is to have a storefront cafe that will serve healthy meals based upon a donation model.

Brandon Berkowitz, of Deer Park Boy Scout Troop 157, has received the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. For his Eagle Scout Project, he built and installed a bench for the Bus Matrons, as they wait for their buses to pick them up at the Deer Park Transportation Department on Lake Avenue in Deer Park. He also planted flowers and an angel statue. From Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, he has demonstrated values, dedication, commitment, discipline and loyalty, everything that scouting stands for.
