RELEASED - Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum recently hosted is annual Butterfly Release where 700 Painted Lady Butterflies were released to support Long Island’s ecosystem. Butterflies act as important pollinators that help gardens and communities prosper. The event not only educated families about the importance of butterflies within our environment, but as a symbol of those we love who have passed on, allowed many to feel connected to lost loved ones. Babylon School District Selects Interim Superintendent Brian Conboy Brings 38 Years Of Experience In Education

The Babylon Town Board recently recognized Ethan Klenofsky, 24, of North Babylon for earning the Congressional Award. The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all youth in the United States between the ages of 14 and 24 regardless of ability, circumstance or socioeconomic status. Participants earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Certificates and Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition / Exploration.Ethanworked hard to achieve his goal of receiving the Congressional Award before his 24th birthday. Councilman DuWayne Gregory was his mentor and guided him through the steps of the requirements. Ethan spent much of his time volunteering at the Gerald Ryan Outreach Center in Wyandanch, and Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. “I have known Ethan since my time at the Suffolk County Legislature,” said Councilman Gregory. “It has been my honor to work with him and watch him grow into an outstanding member of our community. I’m so glad we were to celebrate his 24th birthday by welcoming him to Town Hall and recognizing this major accomplishment,” he added.
The Babylon Union Free School District Board of Education has selected Brian Conboy as its interim superintendent of schools for the 2022-2023 school year. Mr. Conboy brings 38 years of experience in education to the role. He replaces Babylon’s former superintendent of schools, Linda Rozzi, who retired in July.“My philosophy on education starts with a foundational statement: Every child can learn,” Mr. Conboy said. “There is always a way to meet a student where they are at on an individualized level.” Mr. Conboy received his bachelor’s in elementary education from SUNY Geneseo and his master’s in elementary education and certificate of advanced study in educational administration from Hofstra University. He got his start in education in 1984 as an elementary school teacher for the Seaford Union Free School District, where he spent the majority of his career. In Seaford, he went from teacher to assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent of schools for curriculum, instruction and personnel, and superintendent of schools, a position he held for seven years until his retirement in 2017. Mr. Conboy would go on to serve two years as the interim principal of Massapequa High School beginning in the summer of 2018, and assumed the role of interim superintendent for that district in September of 2021.Mr. Conboy is looking to continue the Babylon UFSD’s tradition of excellence in education, while also pushing it to new heights. “We are going to advance and do everything necessary to stay on the cutting edge of education,” he said. “In this field, if you are not moving forward, you are moving backward.” In her outgoing remarks, Ms. Rozzi thanked the Babylon school community, and expressed confidence in the district’s well being for the coming school year. “Together, we’ve helped our district make tremendous strides. What began with a shared vison and a determined set of priorities years ago eventually drove our many successful outcomes, particularly our graduates who every year embody a healthy confidence to take on the world. It truly takes a team effort that warrants thanks,” she said. “I have truly enjoyed working with all of you as well as getting to know our incoming superintendent, Mr. Conboy. Together we have worked to ensure a smooth transition of leadership this fall.”

Childcare To Become More Affordable For Many Low And Moderate Income Families
Suffolk County residents got a boost in paying for childcare. As part of the 2022-23 New York State budget, families earning up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level will qualify for assistance. Previously, the income standard set by the State for childcare subsidies was 200 percent. Assistance will be administered locally by the Suffolk and Nassau counties departments of Social Services.
“The reality is that working people can’t get to their jobs if they don’t have a quality, safe place to send their children. More workers are returning to an office setting following more than two years of working from home and we need to do all we can to ensure they have access to excellent childcare.”According to the Governor’s office, thousands of families will now be eligible for childcare subsidies as part of a $7 billion expansion of childcare funding in New York State. “I know firsthand how a lack of childcare can hurt your career, your family and your future, as a working mother when I was forced to leave my job to care for my child,” Governor Hochul said. “These historic investments in New York State’s childcare system will allow us to forge a new path forward for parents, especially mothers.
