Drive Thru Shed The Meds & Narcan Training Event

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso, in partnership with Suffolk County Legislators Kevin McCaffrey and Steve Flotteron, Babylon Town Councilman Terence McSweeney and the West Babylon Fire Department are sponsoring a drive thru Shed The Meds and free Narcan Training event on Thursday, July 18, 2024, starting at 11:00am at the West Babylon Fire Department located at

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s office will be on hand to collect your unused, expired, or unwanted medication between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Just drive thru and drop off medications for safe disposal. Liquid medications or sharps will NOT be accepted.

A Northwell Health trained specialist will discuss signs of an opiate overdose, overdose

risk factors, recognizing and responding to an overdose, and the administration of Naloxone (Narcan). Each registered participant will receive a free Narcan kit at the completion of the training. Registration is required. Call Assemblyman Durso’s office at 516-541-4598 to reserve your seat. The Narcan Training program will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. inside the Fire Department.

take advantage of this opportunity.”

Assistance Program (SNAP – formerly known as food stamps), Medicare Savings Program and Heating Emergency Assistance Program (HEAP) applications. They also can provide information on Medicare, answer questions and make recommendations and referrals. For more information about available services or directions to any of these locations, please call the Suffolk County Office for the Aging at (631) 8538200.

“For more than three decades, the Suffolk County Office for the Aging

has been providing full and trouble-free access to critical services,” Donnelly said. “I am glad to see their great professional community outreach program continue and hope that every senior resident will make full use of it.”

The United States population is rapidly aging. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), by 2030, the number of Americans aged 65 and older will more than double to 71 million older Americans, comprising

roughly 20 percent of the U.S. population. With age comes the added burden of dealing with illnesses such as heart failure, dementia and cancer, any one of which can leave you unable to make decisions involving

your care. Unless you have a plan in place, the burden will fall on your family. Protect your loved ones from having to make life and death decisions on your behalf by developing an advance care plan today.
