WEST BABYLON STUDENT PERFORMS

West Babylon Senior High School junior Grace Rossi was recently selected to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York. Rossi was chosen as part of the principal orchestra following her audition. This is her third year performing with the orchestra. Rossi, who has been playing since elementary school, played the viola for the performance but plays the violin in school. Family and friends were able to join Rossi for her Carnegie Hall performance. - Members of the West Babylon Senior High School Class of 2024 took one last trip down memory lane when they visited their respective elementary schools for the Senior Walkthrough on June 13. Elementary students lined the hallways of the school as “Pomp and Circumstance” was played. Elementary students held up congratulatory signs and cheered as the soon-to-be graduates made their way through the school. Donning their blue and gold caps and gowns, the Class of 2024 members reconnected with their former teachers and staff members and shared memories from their time in elementary school. Winters Bros. Makes Donation

To Lindenhurst Tree Project

Winter Bros. Waste Systems, of West Babylon, recently made an $8,500.00 donation to the Village of Lindenhurst for the planting of new trees along South Wellwood Avenue, through the heart of the Lindenhurst Downtown Business District, from Gates Avenue to Hoffman Avenue.

Earlier this year, the Village began a project to improve pedestrian and traffic safety on Wellwood Avenue, including the installation of pedestrian crosswalks, sidewalk bulbouts and median extensions, repaving and curbing of the road, and restriping and reangling of parking spaces. As part of this “facelift”, the Village had to remove the trees that adorned our southern Downtown. Many of those trees, however, were in failing health, or of a variety with height and root-growth that threatened the integrity and safety of our sidewalks and utility wires. Therefore, in an effort to replant trees that would benefit the Village in longevity -- ones that will not become too large and cause future damage, and ones that are not of

an invasive species – the Village consulted with a number of horticultural experts, as well as the Long Island Invasive Special Management Area (LIISMA), and garnered input from valued members of the community, before choosing two varieties to plant in our Lindenhurst Downtown – the Kwanzan Cherry Tree & the Snow Goose Flowering Cherry Tree.

Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “The Village of Lindenhurst extends its grateful thanks to Winter Bros. Waste Systems for this very generous donation towards the beautification of our Downtown. We appreciate their partnership in our commitment to the planting, preserving, and caring of trees in our community.”

Funding For The Fourth Senator Martinez Announces Grants Awarded To S.D. 4 Organizations

New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez announced that $35,000 has been allocated to three community-based programs in the Fourth Senatorial District. The funding secured by Senator Martinez will go to the Amityville Union Free School District, Citizenship Initiative for Change, and the Suffolk County Police Athletic League, Inc. for:

• Amityville UFSD: Awarded $10,000 to enhance their environmental research center for students. This center will provide

students with hands-on learning opportunities in environmental science and sustainability.

According to Gallup’s 2021 Economy and Personal Finance survey, the average individual in the United States is retiring earlier than many people might expect. Gallup found that the average retirement age was 62, which is two years earlier than the working respondents
