NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN

that voting on the school district budget for the year 2024/2025 and election of Members of the Board of Education will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law by Ballot on Voting Machines or by Paper Ballot, if voting machines are not available or as otherwise provided by Law or Regulation. All times set forth herein are prevailing time.

Shall the following Proposition be adopted?

PROPOSITION NO. 1

Shall the school District budget proposed by the Board of Education of the West Babylon Union Free School District for the Fiscal year 2024-2025 requiring the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures of the District in accordance with Section 1716 of the Education Law and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District be adopted.

AND to elect three (3) members of the Board of Education for a term of three (3) years, with the three candidates receiving the highest plurality to be elected.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Annual Budget Hearing of the West Babylon Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, New York will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 6:00 PM, for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law including:

1) to present to the voters and discuss the proposed budget and the amount of money which will be required for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

2) such further business as is authorized by the Education Law and acts amendatory thereto.

Said meeting will be held at the Board Room, Administration Building, 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, NY 11704 at 6:00 P.M. The Annual Budget Hearing will adjourn immediately upon the conclusion of the business before the Board. The meeting is open to the public. You

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to Chapter 258 of the Laws of 2008, Section 495 was added to the Real Property Tax Law, and requires the School District to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how much of the total assessed value on the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation; list every type of exemption granted, identified by statutory authority, and show:

(a) the cumulative impact of each type of exemption expressed either as a dollar amount of assessed value or as a percentage of the total assessed value on the roll:

(b) the cumulative amount expected to be received from recipients of each type of exemption as payments in lieu of taxes or other payments for municipal services; and

(c) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The exemption report shall be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and any website maintained by the District.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024/2025 will be prepared and will be available at each school building and at the West Babylon School District Office, school district Library and on the website (www.wbschools. org) no later than fourteen (14) days before the vote.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of Member of Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District at her office, at 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, New York 11704, no later than on or before 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on or before April 22, 2024. Forms of Petition may be obtained from the District Clerk.

Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District and shall state the name and residence of the candidate and the length of term of the office and the names of the last incumbents, as set forth above. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District; must be signed by at least twenty seven (27) qualified voters of the District (representing the greater of 25

qualified voters or 2% of the number of voters who voted in the 2023 Annual Election) ; must state the name and residence of each signer, and, must state the name and residence of the candidate. The Petition shall describe at least the length of term of office and contain the name of the last incumbent.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that any referenda or propositions to amend the budget, or otherwise to be submitted for voting at said election and budget vote must be filed with the District Clerk of the Board of Education, 10 Farmingdale Rd, West Babylon, NY 11704 on or before April 22, 2024 at 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, must be typed or printed in the English and Spanish language; must be directed to the Clerk of the School District; must be signed by at least sixty eight (68) qualified voters of the District (representing 5% of the number of voters who voted in the 2023 annual election) ; and must legibly state the name of legal residence of each signer.

The School Board will not entertain any petition to place a proposition before the voters which is not within the powers of the voters to determine, which is unlawful, or any proposition which fails to include a specific appropriation where the expenditure of monies is required by the proposition, or where other valid reason exists for excluding the proposition from the ballot.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that personal registration of voters is required and no person shall be entitled to vote at said meeting and election whose name does not already appear on the register of said school district, or who does not register as hereinafter provided.

It is an exciting time at the Mercy Soup Kitchen of Wyandanch as it is preparing to launch its new and expanded post Covid operation.

Located in the basement of Trinity Lutheran Church at 17 South 20th Street, the Kitchen served its first meal to hungry people in 1980 and currently serves an average of 108 people per day. During the pandemic, however, Kitchen procedures had to be modified in order to provide hot, nourishing meals safely and continuously to those in need. Indoor sit-down dining was discontinued and only take-out dining was available.

The Kitchen relies heavily on its generous volunteer support and, as such, numerous on-site and off-site volunteer opportunities are now available.

on-site positions, such as helping to prepare and serve meals and to perform various maintenance functions, there are also openings for diverse off-site positions in areas such as finance, grant development and preparation, legal compliance assurance, marketing duties, social media facilitation and fund raising/ donation coordination.

Assemblyman Durso Announces Annual Pet Food Drive

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso (Massapequa Park), in coordination with Long Island Cares, is inviting the community to participate in his annual Pet Food Drive to help families keep their pets out of shelters and remain at home where they belong.

Assemblyman Durso is asking residents, community organizations and pet lovers to kindly donate unopened bags of dog and cat food, canned pet food and pet supplies. All items collected will be donated to Baxter’s Pet Pantry, operated by Long

Island Cares, which provides free pet food and pet supplies to pet-owning families in need throughout Long Island.

West Babylon Science Olympiad Students Place At States

AT STATES - On March 15-16, West Babylon School District’s Science Olympiad team traveled to Syracuse for the Science Olympiad State Tournament. The largest in the country, New York’s State Tournament had 60 schools from throughout New York representing some of the best STEM students in the state. Qualifying for the tournament is always a goal for West Babylon and improving their results each year is something they strive for. This year, Logan Iversen and Alex Burkhardt received a ninth place medal in Wind Power, representing West Babylon’s first state medal since 2018. Iversen and Burkhardt not only took an exam in renewable energy with a focus on wind power, but also designed and tested a wind turbine that generated electricity. Applications to enter the West Babylon School District’s Universal Prekindergarten program lottery for the 202324 school year are now open. The Universal Prekindergarten program will be funded by a New York State grant, run by SCOPE and housed at Forest Avenue, John F. Kennedy, Santapogue and Tooker Avenue elementary schools. Parents must provide transportation to and from the program.

To be eligible, your child must turn 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2024. Applicants will be selected by a lottery to attend this full day program. In order to participate in this lottery, ALL completed forms and required documentation must be submitted via email to Central Registration at WBregistration@ wbschools.org or
