AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that applications for absentee ballots for election of Board Members and approval of the budget may be applied for by eligible residents at the Office of the Clerk of the District (Administration Offices, 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, New York 11704), beginning March 31, 2021 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M., prevailing time, Monday through Friday, except holidays, in accordance with Section 2018-a of the Education Law. The completed application must be received by the District Clerk, at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. No absentee voter’s ballot shall be canvassed unless it shall have been received in the Office of the Clerk of the School District no later than 5:00 P.M., prevailing time, on the day of the election, Tuesday, May 18, 2021. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available for inspection by qualified voters of the District in the said Office of the Clerk on each of the five (5) days prior to the day of election, except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M., prevailing time and shall be available at the polling places on the day of the vote. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written challenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for such challenge. Any such written challenge shall be transmitted by the District Clerk or a designee of the Board of Education to the inspectors of election on Election Day during all hours of voting and registration. The District Clerk shall be at Election District No. 1.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that Military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the West Babylon Union Free School District as defined by Section 2018(d)(1)(b) of the Education Law and Part 122.2 (f) of the Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education.

Military Absentee Ballots (1) A military voter may designate a preference to receive a military voter registration, military ballot application and/or military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail in their request for a registration application, ballot application or ballot.

(2) Such designation shall remain in effect until revoked or changed by the military voter. Military voters shall inform the West Babylon Board of Education of any change in the designated transmission address or military status.

(3) Military voter registration application forms must be received in the office of the clerk of the school district by facsimile, US Mail or email to bburrows@wbschools.org no later than April 22, 2021 or, if requested in person, by May 17, 2021.

(4) In order for a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the West Babylon district must have received in the office of the school district clerk, a valid ballot application not later than 5:00 p.m. of the day preceding the last day for the transmission of military ballots.

(5) Ballots for military voters shall be mailed or otherwise distributed by the West Babylon Board of Education, in accordance with the military voter’s preferred method of transmission, (facsimile, electronic mail or mail), as soon as practicable, but not later than April 23, 2021.

The Twilight Wish Foundation www.twilightwish.org

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations.

Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued.

Did you know that senior citizens are the fastest growing population in the world? The number of Americans 65 and older is projected to more than double to over 98 million by 2060.

To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck.

Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true.

Below is a story about Michael, a Plainview resident.

Michael wished for a record player and vinyl records. The Twilight Wish Foundation happily granted his wish, and as far as the records go, he received two of his favorites!

Michael had worked in insurance and took an early train into the city every morning, returning home late at night. By the time he retired, he was ready for senior living accommodations. However, retirement did not stop his desire to volunteer. Prepandemic he worked closely to help people who were lower functioning/ had dementia. During the pandemic,

he was still the first person to ask others what they needed and if he could be of help in any way. He truly gives so much without thinking of taking. Thank you for being you, Michael!

You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Please note, when going to grant a wish, this foundation takes all the necessary safety precautions.

If you are interested in volunteering with their Long Island Chapter, you can fill out the Chapter Volunteer Application at www.twilightwish.org/volunteeropportunities/ and someone will get in contact with you regarding how you can do so. The Long Island chapter operates under the direction of James Ciervo.

(6) Irrespective of the preferred method of transmission designed by a military voter, a military voter’s original military ballot application and military ballot must be returned by mail or email to the appropriate District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. of the date of the election.

MILITARY VOTER REGISTRATION (a) Personal registration application.

MILITARY BALLOT APPLICATIONS. A. Generally.

(1) A military voter may request and obtain from the West Babylon Union Free School District Board of Education, an application for a military ballot.

(2)(i) Military voters shall submit a separate military ballot application for each election at which they wish to cast a vote, except as provided in subparagraph (ii) of this paragraph.

RETURN OF BALLOT (a) The West Babylon School Board of Education shall canvass all military ballots: (1) Received by it before 5:00 PM on election day, May 18, 2021, showing a cancellation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country’s postal service or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States government or are signed and dated by the military voter and one (1) witness thereto, with a date which is ascertained to be not later than May 17, 2021 and must be received in the office of the District Clerk of the West Babylon School District not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 18, 2021.

SCHOOL ELECTION DISTRICTS The boundaries of the school election districts and the place in each election district for registration and voting shall be as follows: Election District No. 1 Election District No. 1 meets in the Board Room of the Administration Wing of the Senior High School, 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, New York, and the said election district comprises all that portion of West Babylon Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, lying south of Sunrise Highway.

Why does NY State have such restrictive guidelines for animal hospitals?

We enjoy having you there too.

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.

However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia

Restrictions are lifted on other things.

By July 2020, restrictions like curbside check-in have helped reduce the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York State down from over 10,000 a day to below 1,000. At the same time we have seen infections rise dramatically in other states who had fewer restrictions.

In the 1640s, the Halsey family began farming in the Water Mill and Bridgehampton area. Today, their family farm tradition continues as Milk Pail Fresh Market & U-Pick, which is run by both Amy and Jennifer Halsey.

Both Amy and Jennifer received agricultural educations and returned to the farm after college. Amy manages the retail store, helps design gardens, custom designs planters and more. Jenn is on the farm growing the crops. She once had even been named New York Young Farmer of the Year by the New York State Farm Bureau and proudly represented her state at the national finals held in Texas.

At their farm they grow apples, peaches, pumpkins, blueberries, pears and table grapes. Many value-added products are made from their produce, including fresh apple cider, apple cider donuts, apple and pumpkin pies and more. With the help of their dedicated staff, this family farm continues many traditions, while also trying new ideas to grow the business!

She has supplemented her education throughout the years by taking other educational programs.

In 1996 and 2000, Lisa was named as US Team Leader for the US Equestrian Paralympic Team in Atlanta, Georgia and Sydney, Australia.

From 2008-2013 Lisa served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAGALA, the global standard for equine assisted psychotherapy and personal development. In 2015, Lisa was named to the Board of Autism Communities.

Most recently in 2019, she was appointed to the Town of Islip Disability Advisory Committee to help local government identify the most crucial issues facing our special needs population. She was honored with the 2020 Woman of Distinction and Distinguished Service Award from The Town of Islip, is a current finalist for the Imagine Awards for the Leadership Excellence Category and just received the 2021 Circle Of Excellence Award from the Long Island Business News. Throughout the pandemic, she still sees the greatness around her everyday and believes that when we see it in others, we know it, and when we trust its presence in ourselves, we embody it.

Eileen Scanlon has been a NYS Licensed Cosmetologist for 30 years. She has worked with Corporate America, Non Profits, Academia and local grass-roots organizations. Ten years ago, she started Scanlon’s Traveling Salon.

Story by Petty Officer 2nd Class Kelsey Hockenberger, Commander, Submarine Squadron 15 The leadership and crew of the Los Angeles class fast-attack submarine USS Key West (SSN 722) were presented with the Commander, Submarine Squadron 15 Battle “E” Award in a ceremony held at Naval Base Guam, Feb. 26.

Each year one submarine from each squadron is recognized and the Battle “E” is presented to the submarine crew that demonstrated the highest level of battle readiness during the evaluation year.

Capt.

Bret Grabbe,

Commander, Submarine Squadron 15, presented Cmdr. Michael McGuire, commanding officer of Key West, and his crew with the award.

“We are humbled to represent warfighting excellence for Squadron 15,” said McGuire, a native of West Babylon, New York.

“This crew will continue to provide the United States with the competitive advantage necessary to meet our adversaries within the Indo-Pacific region.”

The Battle “E” competition is conducted to strengthen individual command performance, overall force readiness and to recognize outstanding

performance. The criterion for the award is the overall readiness of the command to carry out its assigned wartime tasks as a unit of the Pacific submarine force.

“The Key West is a family,” said McGuire.

“This year we have grown together which enabled us to better serve our country as one of our nation’s most lethal warships at the tip of the spear.”

The Battle Efficiency competition evaluates submarines on their performance and readiness in the following fields: Engineering, Weapons, Strategic, Navigation/Operations, Communications/Cyber,

Supply, Personnel, Medical and Repair.

In addition to the Battle “E,” Key West also earned the medical excellence, supply readiness, weapons readiness, and navigation excellence awards.

“I’m honored and humbled to be to serve alongside Key West’s team of dedicated fighters,” said Master Chief Jonathan Hollenbeck, Key West’s chief of the boat and native of Ithaca, New York. “Every Sailor assigned to Key West is laser focused on bringing the fight to our adversaries and this award recognizes that focus.”
