The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the 29th annual Spring Egg Hunt at Belmont Lake State Park will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 12:00pm-2:00pm.

There is no rain date for this event.

The egg hunts will take place on the open field and will begin at 12:15pm.

Additional hunts will occur at 15-minute intervals with the last one at 1:45pm.

The hunts will be divided into three age categories: ages 4 & under; ages 5 & 6 and ages 7-9. There is a 3-egg limit per child per hunt to ensure everyone goes home with a special treat. Please bring a small bag or basket for your child to put their eggs in.

The opioid epidemic has highlighted that all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and all communities can be profoundly vulnerable to addiction. YES Community Counseling Center has been providing both addiction treatment and prevention services for the past three decades with the understanding that the needs of each individual is uniquely different and therefore, treatment must also be individualized and utilize a variety of approaches.

YES Community Counseling Center’s addiction treatment services are comprehensive and approaches are based upon the developmental stage and readiness of each individual. Under the supervision of the agency’s Medical Director, specializes in evidence based services which are available for adolescents, young adults, adults and family members, including: •Adolescent Family Program (AFP) •Young Adult groups •Impaired driver evaluations and treatment •Moral Reconation Therapy for those who are legally involved (MRT) •Recovery groups •Trauma focused therapies •Parent and significant other support groups •Educational groups

It is also understood that most often, family members are deeply affected by addiction and require support and well as an understanding the complexities of the disease and how to support a loved one through their recovery.

Early education about addiction is critical along with early interventions that build individual, family and community protective factors to reduce the likelihood of young people resorting to substances to cope with life’s challenges.

In light of marijuana legalization, it is so important that parents learn the detrimental effects of all substances on the developing brain. In addition to prevention services within the local schools and community, YES CCC offers early intervention

Applications are now being accepted for West Babylon School District’s universal prekindergarten program for the 2022-2023 school year. The program will be funded by a New York State grant. The UPK program will be run by SCOPE and will be housed at John F. Kennedy, Tooker Avenue and Santapogue elementary schools.

Transportation must be provided to and from the program.

To be eligible, children must be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2022.

Applicants will be selected

by a lottery to attend this full-day program. To participate in this lottery, all completed forms and required documentation must be submitted via email to central registration at WBregistration@ wbschools.org or hand delivered to the central administration registration office at 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon, NY 11704 or fax (631) 3767019 by 4 p.m. on April 20.

Applications can be found on the West Babylon School District website at www.wbschools.org.

The lottery will take place virtually on April 29 at 10 a.m. The Zoom link for the lottery will be posted on the website prior to going live. The first 78 students to be selected in the lottery will be eligible to attend the program at no cost to the families.

Espinoza Named NYS Winner In Flag Design Contest

Babylon Junior-Senior High School 12th grader Vanessa Espinoza has been named the New York State winner for her design in the New York State Art Teacher’s Association’s Youth Art Month flag contest.

Eight Babylon students submitted artwork into the NYSATA YAM flag design contest. Espinoza won for the third year in a row for

her design sponsored and judged by New York State Art Teachers Association.

In previous years, she was named the overall high school winner. As the New York State winner, her design will be printed on the New York State flag, which will hang at the National Art Educators convention in New York City in March.
