Middle Country Seniors Sign Athletic Letters Of Intent

Recently, 10 Middle Country Central School District senior student-athletes signed their letter of intent at the ceremony. The students, in the presence of their families, friends, teachers, and District administration, affixed their signatures to letters of intent from their respective colleges, cementing the bright future ahead for all of them.

“This is a huge stepping stone for our student-athletes who are looking forward to the new chapter of their lives after their high school journey,” said Dr. Roberta Gerold, Superintendent of Schools. “We are incredibly proud of our students who are looking to pursue higher education as well as continue their athletic careers.”

Waverly Students Plant Peace Promises

Students at Waverly Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District planted peace promises around the building’s grounds. Students at each grade level received daffodil bulbs with a paper peace promise attached. They wrote pledges of things they would do to make for

a positive school year. For example, some students pledged to give other compliments, be kind, use positive words and pick up garbage. Pre-K through fourth graders planted the front of the building along Waverly Avenue and fifth graders planted near the main entrance, around the Sue

Garden.

In the springtime, these daffodils will bloom to beautify the school, but also to remind students of their peace pledges. The schoolwide activity brings the building together while creating a positive school environment and culture of caring.

On Monday, November 21, 2022, Noelle Lambert and The Bryn Elliott Team launched a Holiday Donation Drive, benefitting the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, an organization that strives to end homelessness on Long Island, and to alleviate the issues associated with homelessness and poverty for homeless and at risk persons in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

“I’ve always been passionate about helping others, but more specifically assisting the homeless is really important to me,” said Noelle, Licensed Real Estate Salesperson with Douglas Elliman Real Estate. “When you strip away all the excess and get down to the basics - the minimum that one should have in order to put their best foot forward every day - what remains is a home, along with food, and the like. There are countless people struggling and facing homelessness right now on Long Island and it just feels like the right thing to do to help them.”

The drive will run through December 19th and has five drop-off locations throughout Long Island. “This year the organization is desperately in need of non perishable food and personal care items,” said Bryn Elliott, Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker with The Bryn Elliott Team at Douglas Elliman Real Estate. “They’re also looking for clothing, socks and winter coats. We’re hopeful that this drive will make a difference by helping people who need it; especially during the toughest time of the year to be homeless.”

EAC Network is a non-profit organization that empowers, assists and cares for individuals in need. Their objective is to reach individuals within our community through innovative programs that improve quality of life. They have five service areas:

Children & Youth: Their Children & Youth services work deeply with children who are victims of child abuse and neglect or who are involved in the foster care system or child trafficking. They provide supervised visitation between noncustodial parents and their children, promote child passenger safety and offer mentors for at-risk youth.

Family & Community: EAC Network’s Family and Community programs help individuals pay bills, resolve family and business conflicts and navigate through obstacles that hinder selfsufficiency.

Senior & Nutrition Services: EAC Network is a provider of Meals on Wheels. They act as guardians for seniors, as well as mentally and/or physically incapacitated individuals, who are unable to manage aspects of daily life on their own. Their senior centers provide warm meals, exercise and social interaction to local seniors. They also offer technology classes as well as trained companions to relieve caregivers.

Vocational Services: Their Vocational Services offer a variety of programs that provide participants with skills to obtain and retain employment, particularly with at-risk populations.

Behavioral Health & Criminal Justice Services: They offer Behavioral Health programs that work in tandem with the criminal justice system to help

individuals suffering from mental health and/ or substance abuse issues obtain treatment. They also offer programs for Anger Management, Community Service and educational intervention for domestic violence offenders, and more.

Within those five areas of service, they run a total of 103 programs and they serve over 50,000 people a year with offices in all five boroughs, Suffolk County, Nassau County and Rockland County!

Connetquot Boys Championship Teams Honored

The Connetquot Central School District would like to thank Suffolk County Legislators Trish Bergin

and Anthony Piccirillo for honoring the boys volleyball and boys soccer championship teams on

Nov. 22. The boys fall athletic program ended on a high note with the boys

volleyball team garnering the title of Suffolk County Champions. The boys varsity soccer team

took home the Suffolk County and Long Island Championship titles. This is the first county

championship for either sports team.

Experiential Gifts

Shopping is foremost on the minds of many people come the holiday season. When considering loved ones and acquaintances while making holiday shopping lists, tangible gifts, such as clothing or items for the home, may be the first things that come to mind. However, experiential gifts also merit consideration. Experiential gifts are those that focus

on experiences rather than items. These can include anything from a horseback riding adventure to a spa day to concert tickets to getting behind the wheel of a race car. Experiential gifts can be tailored to people’s interests. A study by researchers at San Francisco State University showed people tend to realize greater well-being from life experiences and

consider them to be a better way to spend their money. Overall satisfaction tends to be greater with gifted experiences than with material things. Furthermore, the Harris Group found that 72 percent of millennials actually want to spend more money on experiences rather than things.

Holiday Harmonies From Festive Flutes!

Neighbor Pets’ Place

The Long Island Flute Club is pleased to continue its tradition of presenting its annual Holiday Concerts. Once again the Flute Club will be presenting two concerts, one at each end of the Long Island community. Both concerts will feature a variety of seasonal classics that are guaranteed to put you in the spirit of the season. The sixteenmember flute ensemble will feature all members of the flute family from piccolo to bass flute. The ensemble, directed by Lauren Osnato will play a variety of festive classics such as “The Nutcracker Suite” and “Let it Snow” to “Sleigh Ride” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” It is a holiday celebration for children of all ages!

The Suffolk County Concert will be Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 3:00 pm at the United

Methodist Church of Lake Ronkonkoma. This will be the thirteenth time the Long Island Flute Club will present a holiday concert at this charming church in Lake Ronkonkoma.

The picturesque church is located at 792 Hawkins Avenue, in Lake Grove. The concert is free of charge. In the spirit of the holiday season, they will be taking up a collection to donate to the ALS Association.

The Nassau County Concert will be Sunday, December 11, 2022, at 2:00 pm in the Red Ballroom of Old Westbury Gardens.

The Gold Coast-era Mansion will be decorated for the holidays, and there will even be an appearance from Santa Claus himself. The concert is free with admission to Old Westbury Gardens.

The Holiday Flute Choir is made up of members of the Long Island Flute Club. The group is a mixture of

players of all ages who play at an advanced level. They are professional players, teachers, and students who all love the flute and enjoy sharing music. Our ever-expanding catalog of family programs fosters education, entertainment, and enlightenment. Family engagement helps to fortify relationships and nurture children’s development through creativity and imagination. Families connecting with other families, connecting to library and community resources, and learning through enjoyment establishes a foundation for our youngest

members. From infant to toddler, school age to teen, parent to grandparent, and all who help our library grow, we are thankful. Please join us this winter for playdates, green screens, crafts, movies, bingo, and the beginning of lifelong friendships.

The journey continues with teen community service as it supports characterbuilding and the acquisition of innovative skills to inspire and galvanize the future. It cultivates both local and global connections and the significance of their role in improving our community. Technological advances also change our world and our library as well. On Monday, November 7, teens took part

in a first-of-its-kind program for the library, Build a 3D-Printed Prosthetic Hand. Working in groups of three, teens helped to assemble 3D-printed prosthetic hands. The completed prosthetics will be donated to the nonprofit organization e-Nable, “an online global community of ‘Digital Humanitarian’ volunteers,” making upper limb devices with 3D printers for those in need.
