NOTICE OF FILING OF SUNRISE WIND LLC’S PHASE I ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CONSTRUCTION PLAN FOR THE SUNRISE WIND NEW YORK CABLE PROJECT

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, on November 18, 2022, pursuant to Article VII of the New York Public Service Law (the “PSL”), Sunrise Wind LLC (the “Applicant”), a 50/50 joint venture between Orsted North America Inc. and Eversource Investment LLC, will le a copy of its proposed Phase I Environmental Management and Construction Plan (“EM&CP”) with the New York State Public Service Commission (the “NYSPSC”) related to the Sunrise Wind New York Cable Project (the “Project”). The Project will deliver power from the Sunrise Wind Farm (“SRWF”)—which is under a 25-year Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Certi cate (“OREC”) contract with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (“NYSERDA”)—located in federal waters on the Outer Continental Shelf, to the existing electrical grid in New York State.

Construction associated with Phase I of the Project includes: the establishment of several laydown yards and work areas necessary to construct the Project, civil works at the Project’s new onshore converter station (the “OnCS–DC”), certain civil works in New York State Department of Transportation-controlled rights of way, the installation and use of certain equipment in the Intercoastal Waterway adjacent to the Smith Point County Park, and expansion work at the existing Holbrook Substation. All of the work associated with Phase I of the Project will occur in the Town of Brookhaven. The Applicant intends to le its post-Phase I EM&CP(s), which will cover the remainder of the scope of the Project, in 2023. The post-Phase I EM&CP(s) will similarly include the opportunity for public review and comment prior to approval.

PHASE I EM&CP

The EM&CP describes the construction procedures and environmental protection measures proposed to be used for the Project, including but not limited to: the location of the Project, proposed construction methods, construction noti cations, vegetation removal, traffic management, noise minimization, water quality standards, contaminated soil and water handling, stormwater management, terrestrial and marine rare, threatened, and endangered species protections, and many other measures to be implemented during the construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of the Project. SRW developed the EM&CP in conformance with the requirements of the conditions appended to the Project’s Certi cate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need (“CECPN”) and in consultation with the New York State Department of Public Service, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Department of State, New York State Department of Transportation, and the Town of Brookhaven.

New Lane Memorial Elementary School Celebrates 100th Year Of Fire Prevention Week

New Lane Memorial Elementary School students celebrated Fire Prevention Week from Sunday, October 9 to Saturday, October 15. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week.

In honor of Fire Prevention Week, firefighters from the Selden

Fire Department visited the New Lane Memorial Elementary School to speak to students on how to prevent fires and what to do if there is a fire. The elementary school students were also able to ask questions and learn about the fire safety types of equipment the firefighters use in their fire trucks.

“It was wonderful to have the Selden Fire Department visit our students to educate them on fire safety,” said Phyllis Saltz, Principal of New Lane Memorial Elementary School. “Thank you to the Selden Fire Department for taking the time to visit us and teach our students the essentials of fire safety!”

The Charity of the Month for November is Association for Mental Health and Wellness

Since Veterans Day occurs in November, our Charity of the Month is one of Suffolk County’s foremost advocates for the interests of our veterans, the Ronkonkoma-based Association for Mental Health and Wellness (MHAW).

MHAW offers a wide range of support services to Suffolk County veterans by connecting them with affordable housing, medical and mental health assistance, case management, financial and legal referrals, employment assistance programs, and food pantries to help combat food insecurity.

This article in particular focuses on one important component of MHAW’s veteran services, the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project. Named to honor the memory of an Iraq War hero and Army medic from Mt. Sinai who lost his battle with PTSD, the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project is a peer-to-peer initiative offered in collaboration with the Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency.

The Dwyer Project serves veterans, service members, and their families with such post-service transitional issues as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury, although a formal diagnosis is not required for participation. They offer weekly peer groups both in person and virtual, and they also host monthly in-person community resource activities as well as a bi-monthly senior veteran group.

The Dwyer Project’s trained “Veteran Peer Mentors” have served in various branches of the Armed Forces and understand the reintegration needs of those who have been in the military, regardless of era or branch of service. This Project accepts all veterans, no matter their discharge status. All group sessions are confidential and anonymous in a safe, and trusting environment, free of judgment.

“Peer specialists are critical allies for our veterans,” says Colleen Merlo, CEO of the Association for Mental Health and Wellness. “They understand what other veterans are going through and can offer

As described by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, peer support workers are “people who have been successful in the recovery process who help others experiencing similar situations. Through shared understanding, respect, and mutual empowerment, peer support workers help people become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of relapse.”

It is a true power to have this type of communication,” said one a local veteran that is involved with The Dwyer Project.

“My facilitators are fantastic in organizing programs and ideas for how to help each other. The group is fundamental to what we need. When you get veterans together and get them talking, they can work out their issues. This is one of the most important programs for veterans I have ever seen.”

The Dwyer Project’s free, confidential, peer-to-peer approach has attracted support from both veterans and mental health professionals statewide. In fact, this year’s state budget includes funding for this Project in all 62 counties. Additionally, a national veteran peer initiative is pending in Congress, and it all started here in Suffolk County.

Clothing Donations Needed For Long Island Children

Ethical Friends of Children, a program helping needy families on Long Island, seeks clothing (tops, bottoms, pjs, sweaters and socks) in certain sizes. Specific sizes are: GIRLS: 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10 and BOYS: 7-8 and 9-10.

Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach

program of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985. “We assist more than 2,500 children and their families each year by providing them clothing for children from newborn to size 12 as well as infant furniture at no cost,” says Pat Spencer of Port Washington. The “store” – staffed entirely by

Senator Mattera Working With EJ’S PJS To

Senator Mario R. Mattera (2nd Senate District) has joined with EJ’S PJS to serve as a collection point for their annual pajama drive.

Senator Mattera’s office will be collecting pajamas for young children and teens to ensure that everyone has the supplies they need to enjoy the holidays in comfort.

EJ’s PJs has made its mission over the past 11 years to collect and distribute pajamas to the children and teens who need them the most.

Started by Patricia Poggi,

the effort is inspired by her three sons Edward, Jeremy and Patrick and involves the entire family and the local community. It grew out of the family’s holiday tradition of “Poggi Plaid Pajamas” when they decided as a family that they wanted to share their warm and happy feeling with those in need.

Now an annual event, it started with a simple bin on the family porch to including organizations with drop-off boxes. Their goal last year was to gather over 1,000 pajamas and they are working with

everyone to make sure this year is the best yet.

“I am proud to partner with EJ’s PJs and the Poggi family to help deliver the warmth of the holidays to everyone.

I thank Patricia and the boys for all they have done and invite everyone who is able to visit my office to donate. Let’s make sure that all of our children and teens have what they need,” stated Senator Mattera.

The Great Give Back 2022

day of opportunities for the patrons of Public Libraries in New York State to participate in meaningful, serviceoriented experiences.”

This community service

initiative created by the Suffolk County Public Library Director’s Association and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System began in 2017. It is a celebration of generosity

and spirit. This year, the Adult Services Department collected supplies for veterans on behalf of General Needs, Ltd, which helps homeless veterans and their families in and around Long Island. Pet supplies were also collected for Paws of War, an organization that trains and places shelter and support dogs to aid U.S. military veterans in need. An upcoming program, “Junk Food” Cat Toys, will hand-sew cat toys in the shapes of tacos, donuts, and bacon to be donated to a local shelter or rescue.

Teens participated in a Community Service project creating Tote Bags for Charity. Toiletries and basic supplies were collected for the tote bags on behalf of Help for People, Inc., an organization helping the homeless on Long Island. Teens also earned an hour and a half of community service for making homemade dog biscuits for the Islip Animal Shelter using the Mutt-i-grees@ recipe on our Learning Commons Teen webpage.

and Family Services Department, decorating stars with words of hope and encouragement for communities across the country impacted by natural or human-caused disasters. Stars of HOPE, a non-profit organization, helps survivors focus on emotional wellness and healing. Our community has helped us reach those near and far through its kindness for the last five years. Heartfelt words written by our youngest members, along with the collected donations will go a long way in making a difference.
