To all our Veterans,

We respect you, we thank you, & we honor you today and always. Simple Gestures To Support Our Veterans Veterans Day is commemorated each year on November 11 to honor the individuals who served in our armed forces. We cannot thank them enough for their service, but we can continue to do simple gestures to show our appreciation and support. · Provide a free meal. Offer to take out a veteran for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you see a veteran eating in a restaurant, anonymously pay the bill for that person. If you own a restaurant, offer them a meal on the house. · Buy from veterans. Seek out and purchase from veteran-owned businesses.

· Donate to a non-profit. There’s countless non-profit organizations that support our veterans. Make a donation to support their mission! · Participate in a parade. If your town hosts a Veterans Day parade, find out how you can volunteer or be a part of it. Oftentimes parade officials enable youth groups, such as high school marching bands or scouting troops, to participate in the parade. · Ask a veteran to speak. If you work in a school or a community center, ask veterans to share their experiences with area youth. · Thank them for their service and ask how they’re doing. A simple “thank you” and “how are you doing” can go farther than you think.

East Islip High School student-musicians Ryan Flad (trumpet) and Kevin Huang (violin) recently earned All-State designation from the New York State School Music Association. Flad and Huang will perform with the All-State Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra ensembles, respectively, in December at the Eastman

School of Music in Rochester. Three other East Islip students, violinist Richard LaSpina, tuba player Samuel Martinez and alto vocalist Lorelai Mucciolo, were named NYSSMA alternates. “The high school music teachers are extremely proud of all of these talented musicians,” Choral Director Bethany Affelt said.

Talented East Islip Student-Musicians Recognized With All-State Nods

“The NYSSMA All-State Conference is a wonderful way for these dedicated and hardworking students to be recognized for their efforts. We are sure that these students will have an amazing experience during this four-day conference, culminating in a series of concerts in early December.”

Brentwood Celebrates With Community Mural

BRENTWOOD CELEBRATES WITH COMMUNITY MURAL - The Long Island Latino Teachers Association (LILTA) in collaboration with the Huntington Arts, Teatro Yerbabruja, and BethpageFCU, held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the newly completed Brentwood Mural. The mural was directed by master, Segundo Orellana, and assisted by students from Brentwood and Central Islip. The Brentwood Mural, at 92 Wicks Rd., showcases places and events in the community of Brentwood. Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, NYS Assemblyman Phil Ramos and Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney celebrated with the community.

TO PLACE YOUR AD IN THE CLASSIFIEDS CALL 631-226-2636 United Way Of Long Island Invests In Student Success United Way of Long Island’s 2023 “Stuff-A-Bus” program provided over 5,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for kindergarten through 5th grade students across Nassau and Suffolk counties. Corporate partners and community members dropped off donated school supplies at United Way’s Entenmann’s Family Center for Hope in Deer Park, NY. Volunteers came together to pack the supplies and load school buses so that no child would start the school year without the basics. According to Neisah, a sixth grader who helped unpack much needed supplies at her school, “It feels amazing to help all these students. It feels great and our community, our school, is all about kindness.” Education is essential to unlocking a student’s potential and achieving financial success. For many Long Island families, the cost of buying school supplies

can be a significant burden. By providing backpacks and school supplies, United Way sets students up for academic success, while increasing the economic opportunity of students’ families. Robert McCarthy, Principal of Loretta Park Elementary School in Brentwood, NY said, “We are lucky to have United Way of Long Island and Suffolk Transportation Services donate Stuff-A-Bus products to children who don’t have the opportunity to get supplies, and families that are struggling, and they truly benefit each year.” Fifteen years ago, United Way of Long Island and Suffolk Transportation Services, Inc., launched the Stuff-A-Bus partnership. The program has provided more than 1 million back-toschool supplies to children in need. “We are proud to give back to the students who need it the most, make sure no one feels left behind, and

help begin their new school year on a fresh start,” said John Corrado, Assistant Vice President, Suffolk Transportation Services, Inc. Theresa A. Regnante, United Way of Long Island President and CEO added, “It’s our pleasure to thank Suffolk Transportation Services for all the good our Stuff-A-Bus partnership continues to do.
