The Suffolk County Sheriff Office’s Pet Network also houses a database where animals can be tracked and located. Using their database, they are able to detect and locate missing pets and send out alerts to the deputy sheriff’s department and through social media.

During the summer it is easy for animals to wander and get lost. Through our microchipping and database program, and with the help of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, we can ensure that any lost pets will be found and returned safely to their rightful owners,” said Robert Misseri, Founder and President of Paws of War. The microchips, which are the size of a large grain of rice, are implanted under the animal’s skin behind the shoulder blades. For service animals, microchips are used to provide a permanent form of identification. The microchip can also identify and track an animal’s movements. In the event a service animal gets lost, you can use a microchip scanner to identify the pet’s owner. Through Paws of War’s database, owners can be contacted and have their animals safely returned.

Chronicling Mother’s Inspired Approach To Honor Son’s Life And Support Suicide Prevention
When seemingly happy, travel-infatuated veteran CJ Twomey violently ended his own life at age 20, his family was plunged into unrelenting grief and guilt. In a moment of desperate inspiration, his mother Hallie put out an open call on Facebook, looking only for a handful of travelers who might help fulfill her son’s wish to see the world by scattering some of his ashes in a place of beauty or special meaning. Her heartfelt request struck a chord, creating a global online community of tens of thousands congregating in solidarity and empathy and inspiring more than 1,000 “scatterers” who documented the delivery of CJ’s ashes to locations on every Scatteringcontinent.

In fact, Labor Day boasts a unique history that’s worth celebrating for a variety of reasons. What Is Labor Day?
The United States Department of Labor notes that Labor Day is a celebration of American workers that dates back to the 19th century. The day is meant to commemorate the contributions workers in the United States have made to the nation, helping to make it one of the strongest and most prosperous countries in the world. Who Came Up With The Idea Of Labor Day? Despite the fact that municipal legislation surrounding Labor Day was initially introduced in the 1880s, debate remains as to just who should be credited with proposing a day to honor American workers. Some records suggest that Peter J. McGuire, who served as general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and cofounded the American Federation of Labor, deserves the credit for Labor Day. However, the Department of Labor notes that many people believe a machinist named Matthew Maguire (no relation to Peter) was the first to propose a holiday honoring workers in 1882. At that time Maguire was serving as secretary of New York’s Central Labor Union, which later adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic. The first Labor Day was ultimately celebrated in New York City on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in accordance with the plans made by the Central Labor Union, which strongly suggests that Maguire does, in fact, deserve the credit for coming up with the holiday.WhyCelebrate Labor Day?
Labor Day is worth celebrating because, without the contributions of millions of workers every year, the United States would not be the success story it is and has been for more than 200 years. Figure skater Vanessa Rossa, an incoming sophomore at East Islip High School, won a silver medal at the State Games of America, held July 2731 in Des Moines, Iowa. The SGA is an Olympicstyle event featuring competition between State Games medal winners from across the nation. Rossa qualified to compete in the Pre-Juvenile Excel level after winning a gold medal in the Empire State Winter Games at Lake Placid in February. During the Games, the largest multi-sport amateur athletic winter sporting event in North America, was also part of the bronzemedal-winning Team Rinx synchronized skating team. RMHC NY Metro is currently engaged in a campaign to support a new physical location in Suffolk. Individuals and companies from around the region have committed financial support to helping grow the “Weoperation.areactively looking at options for bringing a Ronald McDonald House to Suffolk County,” said Nick Croce, Co-Chair of the RMHC NY Metro Suffolk County Advisory Council. “We want Suffolk families to have the TheHydeHouseRonaldweandaccommodationssameresourcesthatprovideattheMcDonaldinNewPark.”Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park is a 42-bed residential facility, providing free lodging for families with a child undergoing medical treatment at Cohen Children’s Hospital next door and at other medical facilities in the area. Families also have access to homecooked meals, which are donated and prepared by volunteers, as well as shower, laundry and play areas for siblings for the duration of their “Somestay.families come to us for days, weeks or months at a time, depending on the circumstances,” said Campo. “We want families to have access to those same resources in Suffolk County so they can keep their attention on helping their children get better.”

Recently, the Polish American Museum has acquired, from the Poles in American Foundation, a set of original oil paintings from the collection of the late Edward Pinkowski. The creative paintings by the deceased artist Edward Lis are “American Heroes of the United States Army” (during World War II of Polish heritage). Sgt. Stephen Gregg, Sgt. Joseph Sadowski and Second Lt Joseph Sarnoski were the recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor.Also in this collection is a painting of the first American Polish Graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, Lt. Col. George Sokalski. Included in this collection is a portrait of Roman J. Jaworowski, editor of the newspaper “Echo Polski” (1863-1865) as well as a bronze bust of Casimir Pulaski and Thaddeus Kosciuszko.TheLateEdward Pinkowski was a lifetime member of the Polish American Museum and founder of the Poles in America Foundation.
