Little Flower strives to meet the immediate needs of children entering foster care by partnering with dedicated foster parents who bring experience and skills in supporting children experiencing trauma. Potential foster parents undergo a thorough application and screening process, complete training, and participate in a home study before becoming a foster parent. The Little Flower team provides ongoing support and services to foster parents to ensure they can create the most nurturing environment for the foster children in their care.

Additionally, Little Flower partners with foster parents and children’s families to support the children while their family receives the support and services they need to safely parent upon the child’s return from foster care. They also work with extended family to find relatives or other permanent homes for children who cannot safely return to their parents. This

For children requiring specialized care, Little Flower offers a Therapeutic Foster Boarding Home (TFBH) program based on their Wading River campus that works with children placed in foster care through Nassau or Suffolk County.

Therapeutic foster parents are provided with additional training and certification to best care for the specialized needs of the foster children in their home.

In addition to providing temporary care for children in a safe and nurturing environment, foster parents work closely with the organization’s social work team and the child’s parents in support of family reunification or permanency planning and ensure children are available to attend family visits. Foster parents model positive behavior, provide guidance and positive experiences, as well as support educational, dental, medical, and mental health needs of the child.

Little Flower is proud to partner with such compassionate individuals willing to help children in need thrive and reach their full potential. Vivian M., a foster parent with Little Flower for more than 13 years, shared that she became a foster parent because she “loves children and wanted to make a difference.”

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) is hiring new lifeguards for the summer season with no prior certification required.

There are positions available at Montauk/ Hither Hills, Wildwood, Orient, Jones Beach, Robert Moses, Heckscher & Sunken Meadow State

Parks.

New York State Park lifeguards must meet certain eligibility criteria, which includes successfully completing the qualifying procedure, before being hired. Candidates must be 17 years of age to take the exam and valid photo ID is required at check in.

Applicants must have 20/70 uncorrected vision in both

FOOD DONATION PROJECT/HEALTH FAIR - St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Islip will host a Food Donation Project/Health Fair on Saturday, June 11, from 8:30 to 1:30, at the church located at 754 Montauk Highway (across from the Oconee Diner).

On Saturday, June 11, from 8:30 to 1:30, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 754 Montauk Highway (across from the Oconee Diner), will host a Food Donation Project/Health Fair. Donations can be dropped off and you will receive a ticket to enter the Health Fair.

Participants can peruse the nutrition table created

by South Shore University Hospital, whose motto is, “Connecting health and nutrition to improve your overall wellness.” They will address such things as healthy eating on a budget, healthy eating for seniors, healthy summertime recipes, and more.

People will also be able to get their blood pressure checked by registered nurses; get their glucose monitored by members of Stony Brook University’s Physician Assistant Department; and get a free wellness gift from Little Angels Center.

Stony Brook’s Physician Assistant Dept. is no stranger to the St. Mark’s food donation projects since 2020. When inquired about their energetic and faithful activity in these food drives, we were told that “as health professionals, we have to be aware also of social, psychological and

malnutrition issues.”

To make it even more interesting, donation participants will be able to enter a raffle for products and certificates from Hand & Stone Day Spa for men and women.

The public-at-large is encouraged to donate to this non-sectarian event.

The event will be held rain or shine; if sunny it will be in front of the church doors on Montauk Highway and St. Mark’s Lane. People will sign in and be escorted to the Health Fair.

If it rains, it will be held in the office building; drive a few feet on St. Mark’s Lane, turn right on the driveway and go all the way down to the triple doors.

Why combine it with a health fair? “During the pandemic, many people have been less-than-proactive about their health. This may be the first time in two years that they have had their blood pressure checked.”

Mother Christina van Liew, St. Mark’s InterimPriest-in-Charge, said, “Food insecurity on Long Island is a serious problem,” she continued, ““Even before Covid, over 250,000 Long Island residents couldn’t put food on the table . Now, especially with challenges like out-of-control inflation

and the continuing Covid variants, the numbers have increased by over 50 percent,” Mother Christina added that “every contribution brings hope and eases food insecurity.”

All donations go to God’s Provision, an affiliate of LI Cares-The Harry Chapin Book Bank. God’s Provision, run by Dana Jahn, distributes food to pantries at churches, shelters and senior communities throughout Long Island.

People are urged to donate non-perishable foods such as: pasta, rice, beans, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, mac and cheese, juice boxes, crackers, cookies, salt, pepper, cake/brownie mixes, canned frosting, canned tuna and chicken, stove-top stuffing, bottled fruit-flavored drinks, oil and vinegar, soup, canned gravy, tomato sauce, condensed milk, pudding (boxed, not prepared) jello, apple sauce, canned vegetables and fruit, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, tissues, TP, paper towels, kid-friendly treats, toiletries, (non-perishable) baby food, pet foods etc.

No dairy, frozen items or anything that can spoil.

The qualifying procedure will be held on Sunday June 12th promptly at 7:30AM at Suffolk Community College, Grant Campus, Brentwood, NY. The final event of the new hire procedure will take place at the West Bathhouse Ocean front at Jones Beach. Lifeguard candidates must provide their own transportation from Suffolk Community College to Jones Beach.

On-site registration opens at 7am & the test will start at 7:30am. The exam consists of 100yard timed swim, 50 yard cross chest carry, ¾ mile run and 350-400-yard timed ocean swim. You must bring sneakers! All components are timed and scored based on your finished time.

Results of Sunday

mornings exams will be announced, and a rookie draft will take place over zoom on Monday, June 13th, 2022 9am.

A link will be emailed to all candidates who successfully completed both portions of Sunday morning’s exam.

Those candidates who successful accept positions on Sunday, will be required to attend 5 paid days/40 hours of Jones Beach Lifeguard Rookie Training beginning on Saturday, June 18 through Wednesday, June 22nd.

Hours for rookie training will be 7:30am-3:30pm.

2022 Long Island Hospitality Ball Join the LIHB in the fight against Breast Cancer for the 10th Anniversary Addition 2022 Long Island Hospitality Ball. For the 6th year we are benefitting the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, NY on Monday, June 27, 2022.

This year the goal is to raise $500,000 for our recipient and partner in fighting cancer, CAROL M. BALDWIN BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FUND. THE LONG ISLAND HOSPITALITY BALL LIHB shows off its hospitality talents by showcasing offerings from the region’s top restaurants, wine and spirit brands, nightclubs and entertainers as well as hotels and catering halls. The LIHB was founded in 2011 by Keith Hart and the LIHB Board of Directors.

Mr. Hart is a hospitality industry guru and cancer survivor.

His personal

battle with cancer is now in remission and has inspired him to rally the industry to join the fight against cancer.

As part of this year’s 10 th Anniversary the LIHB is also celebrating 3 Decades of the HART AGENCY as we invite back models and staff for a company reunion. Long Island’s top cover bands and entertainers, including on the main outdoor stage “Michael DelGuidice” with a little help from his friends and on the inside stage “DJ Theo”, “That 70’s Band” and some of your favorite throwback recording artists along with other performers throughout the property and throughout the evening that will be named later. Many celebrities and sports stars

are expected to attend. This event is indoor/outdoor and is rain or shine.

effects of this disease. Our mission is to find a cure – nothing less.

Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund has awarded close to 100 research grants totaling
