Few things document weddings more effectively than photographs. Carefully curated wedding albums and portraits hung on walls serve as daily reminders of a couple’s special day. Photography is often left in the very qualified hands of professional photographers. However, couples can pitch in to make their photos really pop. These picture pointers from industry insiders can help couples put their best smile forward.

Leave Ample Time
Delve Into The Details
Play Your Style Safe
Prepare wedding details, like gowns, shoes, accessories, etc., in advance to save time once the photographer arrives, suggests Desi Mendoza, a pro from Dez and Tam Photography. Invest in a beautiful hanger for the wedding gown as well, because you may want to photograph that on its own.
Put Together A Short List
The photographer will have his or her ideas of which shots to cover, but a couple with specific goals in mind should relay that information to their photographer. For example, if a grandparent is getting up in years, request some solo photos of that person so you can look back on happy times together. Certain couples want to be snapped posing with a beloved pet. Putting that on the list helps ensure it will happen.
Learn To Pose
Couples can practice posing in front of mirrors to get a feel for body positions that put them in their best light. A photographer’s advice in regard to posture is invaluable as well. Create space between arms and the body and learn how to angle the body so you look your best. Photos will capture wedding day memories forever. Couples can put themselves in the best positions for success by following some photography guidelines.

A wedding day is not a time for the bride or groom to try a dramatic new style, according to photographer Amanda Lamb. Resist the urge for a daring cut or color. It’s also likely not the place to try out new facial hair or heavy makeup. A couple unaccustomed to the way they look may be shy in front of the camera.
If the photographer does not have his or her own assistant, recruit someone who is assertive to help wrangle everyone for the family shots. Attempt to get family photos when family members are relaxed but not too far rumpled by dancing or having a good time.
395337N020222
A carefully orchestrated timeline can ensure photos are the best they can be. Why? Because a couple who is relaxed and not overwhelmed will notice that attitude translates to their photographs. When planning wedding timelines, couples should leave ample opportunities for getting dressed, chatting with the wedding party and going through various photography settings to grab great photos, advise the experts at Martha Stewart.

Help Others
Wedding planning involves many movable pieces that ultimately need to come together on the big day. Planning is typically a months-long process, and adhering to certain monthly benchmarks can help couples stay the course. Brides magazine offers that the perfect engagement period is 12 to 14 months, which affords ample time to get organized and work with vendors. With that in mind, here’s a 12-month timeline for couples getting ready to say “I do.”

Nassau Haven and Walkabout provide emergency shelter and longer term transitional housing for homeless, runaway and trafficked youth. Two other residences support children and young adults with serious emotional disturbances or mental health issues. Make Party Hosting A Breeze
Entertaining is a great way to show good will and friendship to others and to celebrate special occasions. Many people can successfully throw parties, but hosting a great party takes a little extra effort. By following some tips, hosts can ensure their next party is one to remember.
Stick To A Theme
Many party hosts find that themes help in the planning. Themes make it easy to coordinate invitations, decor, food, and music. Guests also may enjoy dressing up according to the theme.
New Tackan Elementary School Playground Opens
Tackan Elementary School students officially got into the swing at their new playground recently. With the temperature reaching the upper-40s and the sun brightly shining with no wind, Barbara Beard and Kelly Bennis’ third grade students became the first of several classes to use the new playground throughout the school day. Students shouted, “I’m so excited!” and, “This
is so cool!” and, “It’s like a wild carnival ride!” as they approached and then began using the state-ofthe-art new playground. The playground includes eight swings, a pair of slides and several other climbing structures. One swing even resembles a car seat for those who may have accessibility issues with a traditional playground swing. Staff, including the entire group of cafeteria
workers, were so excited by the Tackan addition, they posed for photos on Day 1 of its use. The playground is part of Director of Facilities Daniel Leddy and the Smithtown Central School District’s ongoing project to try to introduce one new playground annually around the district, provided the budget continues to allow it.

Start Making Lists
Make lists regarding which foods you plan to cook, what you need to buy, who you plan to invite, and any other details that are floating around in your head. Getting things on paper and checking off the list can help keep things moving.
Have A Seating Plan
Have ample seating available and consider assigning seats at formal affairs so guests can sit next to friends or like-minded fellow invitees.
Do As Much You Can In Advance
When hosting at home, spend the day prior to the party getting the house in order and making any food if the party will not be catered. If it will be catered, confirm with the catering company the delivery time and firm up any other details. You’ll be far less frazzled if you space out your tasks than trying to squeeze them in a few hours before guests arrive.
Expect Early/Late Arrivals
Some people just aren’t punctual. Some may leave home too early and arrive well before the party starts, while others think “fashionably late” is showing up long after the party starts. Have some easy-to-grab snacks so that early and late guests can munch while you finish your tasks.
Stick To What You Know
A dinner party or other event may not be the best time to get creative. Lean on recipes you’ve made before and can guarantee correct timing and flavor.
Spread Out Foods And Beverages
Guests tend to bottleneck around the goodies. Ensure mingling and avoid traffic jams by having drinks and snacks in different locations. These are just a handful of ways hosts can throw memorable parties where everyone has a good time.

Emergency Preparedness Program Legislators Rob Trotta and Stephanie Bontempi invite the public to join them at a free, public information meeting at the Northport Public Library on February 3 at 7pm, where Ken Kutner, Community Emergency Evacuation Coordinator for the Suffolk County Office of Emergency Management discusses potential hazards that residents should be aware of and how to best prepare for all types of emergencies. He will also address programs that Suffolk County offers to keep residents informed
and safe, including Smart911 and Suffolk Alert. Mr. Kutner is also a volunteer with the East Northport Fire Department and its former chief. “As Chair of the Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services & Preparedness Committee, I am pleased to bring this program to our residents to ensure that they know how to prepare, plan and respond in an emergency or hazardous situation,” said Legislator Rob Trotta, who is a retired Suffolk County Police Detective. Legislator Bontempi added, “As recent events
have demonstrated, being prepared for a variety of emergency situations should be a priority for everyone. Having the opportunity to get some helpful tips from a preparedness expert is a great first step towards achieving a more secure future.” This is an in-person event so the library requires masks be worn. You may register by calling the library at 631-261-6930 or online at the library’s website: www.nenpl.org. The Northport Library is located at 151 Laurel Avenue in Northport.

and small receptacles for housing garnishes, such as lemon slices or maraschino cherries.
Hosting at home requires attention to detail. Choosing the right accessories and accoutrements is part of setting a formal dinner party scene and creating an inviting atmosphere. The following approach can serve as a guide for men and women as they prepare to host a formal dinner party.
Practice A Proper Table Setting
The art of a properly set table may have fallen out of favor, but it’s one thing that may impress your guests the most. You’ll need specific settings for formal events, and there are plenty of online tutorials offering advice from etiquette experts. Invest in a new tablecloth to serve as an impressive base for the beautiful table settings.
Send Proper Invitations
While many people have grown accustomed to the convenience of evites, nothing conveys the formality of an event better than a traditional paper invitation. Find invitations that match the tone of your dinner party, whether semiformal or formal. This will help set the tone and let guests know what to wear.
Assess Your Serviceware

Take inventory of the types of dishes, glasses, silverware, and serving platters you have. If items don’t match or you do not have enough matching items for all guests, consider purchasing or renting items so everything matches. Plan ahead so you have enough dishes for the courses you will be serving without having to wash items in between.
Limit Your Courses
It is better to do one or two courses very well than stretch yourself thin trying to impress guests with a multitude of courses. Choose dishes that you’ve made before and have had success with. Avoid foods that

Know Your Bar Needs
Different drinks call for different glasses and tools for preparation. Therefore, offer a few signature drinks and stock the items that will be needed for them. Fifth grade students at Burr Intermediate School in the Commack School District traded their way into $9,000 of earnings in a competitive Stock Market Game. Students in The Burr Stock Market Club comprising team four—Anthony Cavallo, Armin Ajan, and Luke Carbone—finished in 2nd place for their region in the Stock Market Game, earning nearly $9,000 in just ten weeks. At that rate, their annual return on investment was nearly 50 percent.
The Burr Stock Market Club started over 20 years ago as part of a local competition sponsored by the SIFMA Foundation. Fifth graders compete with other students throughout New York. The game is so effective because it uses a computer simulation that mirrors the activity of the New York Stock Exchange. Each competing team receives an imaginary $100,000 of play money to invest in the market the same way traders at the NYSE would. An internetbased program enables each

PUZZLE ANSWERS:
The Rise Of The Microwedding
share their big day with their closest friends and family members. The WPI has urged wedding planners to offer microwedding packages in an effort to capitalize on this emerging trend. Data from The Wedding Report indicated that the total number of weddings would rise to 2.77 million in 2021, an increase of roughly 650,000 over the yearly average. Even if only a fraction of couples who tie the knot in 2022 opt for a microwedding, a preexisting microwedding package can help wedding planners secure their business. Couples who opt for microweddings may do so to save money, but also to avoid the effort and save the time required to plan more lavish affairs. Such couples may be especially excited to work with wedding planners who can plan their weddings regardless of how small the Microweddings are not necessarily a affair may be. new trend, as couples have always had the option of getting married with only a small number of family and friends in attendance. However, microweddings Nothing should be off the table could be an emerging trend, and cost may have a lot to do with that. when planning a microwedding. The The Wedding Planner Institute notes fewer the people who will be there, that microweddings cost anywhere the more freedom planners and from $1,600 to $10,000, though the couples may have. The WPI notes that group notes that most microweddings microweddings afford planners and fall somewhere in the middle of couples the chance to get personal in that range. A 2020 survey from TD ways that may not be possible when Ameritrade found that 47 percent of organizing larger affairs. Couples who prefer well-documented post-pandemic microweddings tend to emphasize increase in cost of living, including minimalism, so keeping things simple an unprecedented rise in housing is something to keep in mind when costs, could see expensive weddings planning microweddings. Microweddings are an emerging as luxuries they simply can’t afford. Microweddings could be viewed as a trend that make for a realistic option cost-effective way to combat the rising for couples and the people they hire to cost of living that still allows couples to help them plan their big day. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have been far-reaching. People from all walks of life have had to confront the pandemic and the changes it wrought, and many of those changes could have some staying power. Wedding industry experts note that one of the more noticeable and potentially long-lasting effects of the pandemic has been the rise of microweddings. The 2020 Real Weddings Study (COVID-19 Edition) found that 58 percent of couples who planned to get married in 2020 ended up reducing their guest list by a significant percentage. The average reduction was 41 percent, and some suspect small ceremonies may be the new normal in the years ahead.

Did You Know? Dogs are wildly popular pets. The American Pet Products Association says there are 63.4 million households in the United States that have a dog, and with the exception of 2002 and 2015, that number has steadily risen since 2000. Certain breeds remain especially popular among dog owners. In August 2021, the pet insurance provider Trupanion released the most popular dog breeds of 2020, and the top five breeds were: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
