Naturally, pumpkin spice is also a key ingredient when preparing pumpkin pie, but just what does pumpkin spice contain? Pumpkin spice is a combination of several different ground spices. It typically includes cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg. It also may include allspice. Pumpkin spice is the name given to the blend in the United States. In the United Kingdom, pumpkin spice is known as “mixed spice,” which is a similar but not exact blend as that used to create pumpkin spice. Both feature cinnamon as the dominant flavor.

Small business owners no doubt recognize the value of repeat customers, but few may recognize just how valuable such customers can be to their bottom lines.

A study from researchers at Harvard Business School found that a customer’s eighth purchase was an average of 80 percent higher than his or her first purchase.

In addition, a survey from the strategic planning, marketing and sales consultants Altfeld, Inc. found that the probability of selling to an existing customer is between 60 and 70 percent, while that probability shrinks to as low as 5 percent for new customers. Customer retention strategies like offering superior customer service and seeking input from customers can help small businesses generate more repeat customers, which can greatly improve their chances for long-term success.

Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti.

Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.

They also offer group programs, individual lessons, c o r p o r a t e workshops and a program specifically designed for military members.

Lisa’s mother was a special education teacher and her father worked for a book publishing company. She was greatly influenced by both of their professions.

She grew up knowing she loved horses, but really wanted to become a teacher and work with children in need. Her father would often send her books while she was away at college, and one day she received a book titled Palomino, by Danielle Steel. As she read through the pages, she became inspired by what was written: a ranch that was formed to help people through equine therapy. From that point on, she was certain that was exactly what she wanted to do with her life. Through persistence, hard work and a passion to serve others, Lisa Gatti opened Pal-O-Mine Equestrian in 1995 as a 501C(3) organization.

Pal-O-Mine is located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week, and they continue to grow today! This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-theart footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. They help an unbelievable amount of people and their work is truly heartwarming.

Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome,

Additionally, this organization is proud to now offer a Frontline Heroes Wellness Program. This program is complimentary for medical professionals and first responders, and can be virtual or in person.

The well-known benefits of being in nature include reduced stress while providing a sense of calm, connection and solace.

Sessions for this program may include reiki, mindfulness and horsemanship.

Joining Forces To Fight Food Insecurity: St. Mark’s Episcopal & Islip Rotary by volunteers. People don’t even need to get out of their cars if they don’t wish to; they can pop the trunk and volunteers will collect the donations.

Masks and social distancing are required, however, if they do choose to come out of their cars.

All food will be donated to God’s Provisions, Inc., an organization that distributes to the food pantries throughout Suffolk County including Amityville, The Islips, Bay

Shore, Patchogue, Quogue, Huntington Station, Dix Hills and more. St. Mark’s has a 20 years-plus relationship with them.

The organization is run by Dana Jahn.

Islip Rotary, whose motto is, “Service Above Self,” is a global network of 1.2 million business and other leaders, as well as neighbors and friends to see a world where people unite and take action.

They work to create lasting change across the globe

as “Stand Up to Poverty,” which is a medical mission in Port au Prince, Haiti and “Gift of Life,” which builds sustainable pediatric cardiac programs throughout the globe.”

Father Simpson is also quick to point out that this is a nonsectarian event. You don’t need to be Episcopalian or live in Islip to participate, he said.

“The most important thing is to collect many food donations.”

“This is an important issue and we are happy to join with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Islip.

Currently, it is estimated by the end of 2020, due to the effects of the global pandemic and massive unemployment, over 54 million Americans will be food insecure. At least 18 million of them will be children. The food pantries are struggling to keep up and we’ve all seen pictures of those long lines,” said Islip Chapter President, Astrid Fidelia.
