Alumni from the Northport High School 1995 Long Island Championship Boys Basketball team are taking their love of the game back to their community. The vision of a beautiful, topquality basketball court in downtown Cow Harbor Park was spearheaded

by Doug Trani and Chris Wiebke along with the rest of the championship team.

Doug Trani on behalf of his 1995 teammates stated “I would like to thank Senator Gaughran for his incredible encouragement and the financial support of this project.

The revitalized basketball court in Cow Harbor Park will be a special place for children

to develop through their love of basketball and by creating lasting friendships just like we did thirty years ago.”

They brought their idea to the Northport Village Board of Trustees and got the board ‘s immediate support. The team hopes to pass along their passion for basketball, teammates and community to the next generation and maybe even to another championship team.

With the help of Eatons Neck Youth Club, a GoFundMe site was established which was well received by residents wanting to see this vision come to fruition.

Additionally with the help of Senator Gaughran’s $75,000 SAM Grant as well as the donation from Eatons Neck Youth Club, Inc 501c3, construction of the community court will begin in early 2022.

Continuing an annual tradition, World Language Honor Society students at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School students organized an Operation Christmas Child service project. Guided by advisers Nicole Correia and Nicole Gendjoian, the WLHS members – along with students in ASL and Spanish classes – donated 100 shoeboxes full of items to children in need around the world.

The mission of Operation Christmas Child, a project

of international relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items and school supplies in time for the holidays. They ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. “I felt proud of myself and cheerful to be able to

give children that may not be able to get these resources the chance to use them and enjoy them for the holiday,” senior Diana Muniz said. “It felt nice to think of their smiles when they get the shoebox.”

“The holidays are always such a magical time of the year and I am glad that I was able to help give joy to underprivileged children during this time,” senior Aidan McNamara said.

Glenn’s Sofia Condron Earns Cross-Country All-State Honors Earning All-State honors, Elwood-John H. Glenn High School student Sofia Condron placed 11th overall in the 2021 New York State cross-country championship meet, held Nov. 13 at Chenango Valley State Park in Binghamton.

Condron completed the race in a time of 19:24, good enough to place her on the 2021 All-State team.

“Sofia ran an amazing race here,” said her coach, Pat Burke. “We knew that this course was a bit flatter than Sunken Meadow, so
