Most Sigma Camp instructors have been working together at an excellent weekend enrichment program of School Nova at Stony Brook University.

This program they created and successfully ran for the past nine years.

Recently, Bay Shore Mary G. Clarkson School students showcased their dynamic talents via solo, duo, and trio presentations of gymnastics, dancing, singing, and magic tricks.

Afterwards, when asked to discuss their favorite part of being on stage,

the students unanimously agreed upon “having fun and knowing your friends, family and teachers are watching you.” Special thanks to all who contributed their time and endless energy to making the evening a real “red carpet event,” including the

If you’re feeling especially ambitious, you can always attempt to crack open an actual book, too. I know, I know, such a thing is foreign to most people in this day and age. But remember how much you used to love it? How easy it was to become engrossed in chapter after chapter of a good novel to the point that you never wanted to put it down? Well, summer is the perfect opportunity to rediscover that passion.

Of course, beautiful beach weather always beckons, but the good part is that books and magazines travel easily enough.

And with the technology of today, so can TV shows, actually. Take your tablet along for the ride, stick your toes in the sand, and insert a beach chair in place of that couch. You’re all set!

Just think, an entire month to reintegrate yourself into the culture that you’ve been missing out on these last few months (or years, as the case may be). Time to do something for yourself, wouldn’t you say? Don’t worry, you’ll still have plenty of time to anguish over all the normal daily obligations.

sweat and tears you put into everything that you do, the more life will pay off. There is no promise of money once you graduate.

The only hint that you are an overachiever is that diploma, so you had better be hard working! Given enough motivation, enough drive and the desire to succeed, even a college dropout can become the billionaire behind one of the world’s biggest companies.

So before you pout about not getting that 100 Grade Point Average, or that perfect SAT score, remember, one day you could become Bill Gates.

On May 11th, the 12th Annual Breast Cancer Brunch For A Cure was held at Bay Shore High School. This year’s brunch was organized by Bay Shore High School students Kaitlyn Arnold, Perri Baker, Emily Lindahl, Marc Barreda, Carly Cox and Corinne Schmidt.

Every year, the Breast Cancer Brunch Committee begins raising funds a few months prior to the event by selling ribbons and asking for donations from local businesses. In addition to advertising and promoting the event, these students also organize speakers - both survivors and medical experts - who

Being nominated for the Butch Dellacave Award is a tremendous honor, as it is only given to those Suffolk student-athletes who excel on the field, in the classroom and represent their community with dignity and dedication.

Bay Shore’s Courtney Syrett and Ward Melville’s Jack Bruckner were this year’s two Dellacave Award winners.

In speaking about all 114 of the amazing nominess, Guy Dellecave, executive director of the Butch Dellecave Foundation and oldest son of the late Gaetano “Butch” Dellecave, for whom the award is named, said, “It’s the best of the best. They’re all winners.

Having them here is a culmination of all they worked for.”

Syrett is a member of the Athletes Helping Athletes program and an integral part of Awareness Weekends, Cultural Exchanges and many other community-building activities. “It means a lot,” said Syrett, a three-sport standout for the Marauders in field hockey, basketball and softball, who plans to play softball at the University of Mississippi.

She currently sports a 94.4 GPA and recently made the high honor roll. “I feel I’m a well-rounded person on and off the field,” she said. “Support-wise, just being able to connect with younger kids will help me be more well-rounded, not only now but later in life.”

She went on to say, “The lessons that high school sports teach you can be applied to all aspects of life and are the foundation of who I am and will be.” The Butch Dellecave Award was presented by The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc. and the Butch Dellecave Foundation, Inc., which provided a $1,000 scholarship to each recipient.
