Town Of Oyster Bay To Honor 9/11 Victims And First Responders With Memorial Ceremony And Drone Show The Town of Oyster Bay will commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11 with a series of events honoring the lives lost and the brave first responders who answered the call on that tragic day. The Town’s annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will be held Wednesday, September 9, at TOBAY Beach, beginning at 7 p.m. The ceremony will pay tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks and recognize the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, military personnel, and others who helped in the aftermath. The Town will also co-host a special 9/11 tribute drone show with Embassy Diner on Thursday, September 10, beginning at 7 p.m. at Embassy Diner, located at 4280 Hempstead Turnpike

Massapequa Announces No-Cost Meals For Upcoming School Year The Massapequa School District announces that it is serving meals at no charge for children under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for students for the 2026–27 school year. Lunch is served at

no cost throughout the entire school year. A nocharge breakfast program for students in grades K–5 begins Oct. 1, 2026. Massapequa High School offers breakfast at no charge throughout the school year. For additional information, please contact

More than 1,000 synchronized drones will light up the night sky in more than 10 formations, creating a moving tribute to the NYPD, FDNY, Port Authority, and the many other rescuers who responded on September 11, 2001. The events offer residents an opportunity to come

together as a community, remember those who were lost and honor the heroes whose courage and service continue to inspire generations. In addition, the Village of Massapequa Park will hold its own 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Friday, September 11, at 7 p.m. at Village Hall.

Massapequa Kiwanis to Host 14th Annual Bocce BBQ Fundraiser The Massapequa Kiwanis will host its 14th Annual Bocce BBQ Fundraiser on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Kiwanis Log Cabin at John J. Burns Park in Massapequa. The rain date is September 26. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with the bocce competition starting at 11 a.m. The event will feature bocce competition, a bagel

breakfast, an all-day BBQ, beer, wine and soda, raffles, entertainment, and cash prizes for first- and secondplace teams. The cost is $60 per player with pre-registration or $70 on the day of the event. Nonplayer admission is $30. A special bonus package featuring one team of two players and a court sign sponsorship is available for $150. Sponsorship opportunities include court signs, beer

truck, breakfast and BBQ sponsorships. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Tunnel to Towers and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Free Waterfront Festival & Outdoor Concert At TOBAY Beach On September 13th Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board today announced a Free Waterfront Festival and Outdoor Concert will take place on Sunday, September 13th at TOBAY Beach Marina. This familyfun day will feature marine and outdoor exhibits, a children’s snapper derby, police boat demonstrations, food concessions and a free concert featuring Captain Cool Band with yacht rockin’ hits. The festival will run from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. “The Town is thrilled to offer a free day of family-fun and live

music at TOBAY Beach. Bring your family to Waterfront Festival for a great outdoor concert, educational exhibits and foods and drinks as the summer ends,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This free festival also provides a great opportunity to introduce children to recreational sport of fishing, as all equipment will be provided along with professional assistance and guidance.” The Town of Oyster Bay Free Waterfront Festival and Concert is presented by Optimum and made possible through the following

The Results Are In: Massapequa Athletics Among The Very Best A dominant year of athletic excellence for the Massapequa School District was recently recognized by both state and national organizations, placing the Chiefs among the top high school athletic programs in New York and the United States. The Massapequa Chiefs finished as New York State’s top-ranked Class AAA athletic program and the No. 1 boys sports program in the state, earning runner-up honors for the 2026 Kerr Cup All-Sport Championship. Presented by the New York State Sports Writers Association, the award ranks high school athletic programs based on postseason success. Massapequa placed second overall in New York State, finishing just behind Rye High School in total points. Massapequa’s success was also recognized on the national stage through the MaxPreps Cup, which recognizes the best high

school sports programs in the country and awards points for state championships, runner-up finishes and national rankings based on size of state, popularity of the sport, size of school and number of teams in each playoff division. Massapequa ranked second overall among all schools in New York State, while the boys athletics program was the highest-scoring in New York and ninth in the nation. Further highlighting the district’s commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom, Massapequa High School was also named a 20252026 School of Distinction from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. This honor is presented to schools in which 100% of varsity teams earn Scholar-Athlete status during their respective sports season. There is no charge for admission and parking is free. Doors open at 10:00 a.m., and the event runs until 3:00 p.m. Early entrance will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for seniors, veterans, and individuals that are physically challenged. Town To Collect DVDs For Troops & Children’s Hospitals Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board have announced a partnership with Massapequa-based “Big Hy for Heroes” to collect DVDs for those deployed and serving overseas in the United States Armed Forces as well as movies for children’s hospitals. Donations will be accepted during the month of September and then delivered to Chaplains, Commanding Officers, Sergeant Majors and Sergeants around the globe to distribute to troops and arrange movie nights this holiday season. Supervisor Saladino stated, “The Town of Oyster Bay is proud to partner with Big Hy for Heroes for our Annual DVD Collection Drive and send thousands of DVDs to troops serving around the globe as well as to children receiving care in local hospitals. Help support these brave men, women and children by donating DVDs.” The Big Hy for Heroes organization was founded in 2002 by Massapequa resident and WWII veteran Hyman Strachman who, along with his son Arthur Strachman, personally began sending DVDs to U.S. troops overseas. Over the years, Big Hy for Heroes has shipped hundreds of thousands of DVDs all around the world and continues to do so today. Exciting, suspenseful, comedy and classic DVDs are among the most requested by the troops for movie nights. Children’s movies are needed for local hospitals. Long Island Children’s Museum Dig Zone Is Now Open Long Island Children’s Museum is giving young builders a place to dream big with the opening of Dig Zone, an interactive construction-themed exhibit where children can scoop, shovel, haul and explore through hands-on play. As the second new permanent exhibit to open at LICM this year, Dig Zone represents the Museum’s continued investment in creating fresh, engaging experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity and learning for Long Island families. Designed for children of all ages, Dig Zone transforms a simple pile of sand into an exciting construction site. Visitors can dig with real tools, load sand into construction vehicles, operate a hand-cranked conveyor belt, and work together to move materials across the job site. Every

scoop and shovel introduces concepts like engineering, simple machines, cause and effect, collaboration and problem-solving through play. “Children naturally learn by doing,” said Ashley Niver, Director of Education at Long Island Children’s Museum. “Dig Zone gives families the freedom to experiment, build, collaborate and imagine together while developing important STEM and socialemotional skills in a joyful, hands-on environment.” Dig Zone joins Saltwater Stories: We Need the Sea & the Sea Needs Me, which opened in October of 2025, as one of the Museum’s newest permanent additions. Together, the exhibits reflect LICM’s commitment to continually evolving the Museum experience for returning visitors while remaining rooted in the
