The Town of Oyster Bay will commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11 with a series of events honoring the lives lost and the brave first responders who answered the call on that tragic day. The Town’s annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will be held Wednesday, September 9, at TOBAY Beach, beginning at 7 p.m. The ceremony will pay tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks and recognize the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, military personnel, and others who helped in the aftermath. On August 12, 2026, members of The Women’s Club of Farmingdale donated over $800 in gift cards to Walmart and Target for local students’ back-to-school supplies. This annual program, spearheaded by WCF Welfare Chair Rosemary Emigholz, provides essential tools that give students the readiness, focus, and confidence they need to learn. Items like pencils, paper, and notebooks remove daily barriers, allow active participation in class, and help kids feel equal to their peers. Fresh notebooks, pencils and backpacks boost student confidence and let kids focus on their studies instead of missing tools. In addition, it gives every child an equal chance to learn. The WCF Book Club, chaired by Elaine Ryan, recently read The Teacher by Freida McFadden which stimulated a lively discussion. Club members also participate in a weekly mahjongg game, chaired by Nancy Carman, and a weekly “walk & talk” fitness routine, (weather permitting), chaired by Ann Lomonte. The Farmingdale High School Marching Band completed a three-day preseason training session in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year. Band directors, student leaders, and ensemble members gathered to learn foundational marching steps, conduct uniform fittings, and welcome incoming musicians. “Preseason builds our foundational skills, but band camp is where the team truly comes together,” said Band Director Matthew DeMasi. “We cannot wait to take the field and share our passion, pride, and music with the entire community this fall.” The community is invited to cheer on the Marching Band under the Friday night lights during the Farmingdale High School Football homecoming game on October 9. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Town Clerk Rich LaMarca invite residents to attend the Town’s 4th Annual Children’s Snapper Derby to be featured at the famed Bluefish Tournament on Sunday, September 20th, at Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay. “This fun family event is open to youngsters ages 14 and under with fun prizes and awards for winners, as well as giveaways for all participants,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This fun event provides a great opportunity to introduce children to the wonderful recreational sport of

fishing.” The Snapper Derby will take place between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., during the Town’s Bluefish Tournament, at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park by the fishing pier. There is a $15 registration entry fee. Participants are invited to bring their own equipment, including poles and bait, as supplies are limited. Children will be placed into two age groups, ages 7 and under, and 8-14. Winners will be based on number of snappers caught - catch and release only - with awards and prizes being given out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd

place for each age group. Family fun activities will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. “We are thrilled to bring this fun event to Theodore Roosevelt Park and invite all children who enjoy fishing to sign up and participate,” said Clerk LaMarca. “There will be free refreshments, shirts and raffles for all participants, as well as awards and prizes for top winners.” Registrater now online at www.oysterbaytown.com/sports. L.I.’s Largest Car Show Returns To TOBAY Beach September 27th

Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that Long Island’s largest and most premier car show experience returns to TOBAY Beach on Sunday, September 27th, from 11am to 4pm. “Car Show Long Island” features hundreds of automobiles, trucks, military vehicles, and emergency service vehicles. A live concert performed by Vinyl Revival will take place during the day, followed by trophy presentations. The event is free for spectators. Supervisor Saladino stated, “Whether you’re a proud classic car owner or you want to see the

latest and greatest automobiles in the world, Car Show Long Island is the place to be! With a diverse range of vehicles showcased, car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to admire and interact with some of the most impressive cars around. This free family-fun event is a perfect way to spend the day, all with the beautiful backdrop of TOBAY Beach. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Nassau County Legislator James Kennedy, Legislator Rose Walker, and Legislator Samantha Goetz, in partnership with County Executive Bruce Blakeman, announced today that the Town of Oyster Bay will receive a Community Revitalization Program Grant from Nassau County for shark prevention equipment at Town beaches. Through this grant, the Town will receive funds to purchase vital equipment such as water base drones, shark shields, and shark bands, as well as watercraft and watercraft prevention equipment to ensure the safety of beachgoers and all who enjoy the Town’s many waterways. Supervisor Saladino stated, “The safety and protection of our residents is top priority as shark sightings continue to rise off our shores. We share our waters with some amazing sea life, and we must make sure we do so safely and appropriately.” While shark sightings off the coast of Long Island have increased in recent years, shark bites and attacks remain extremely rare. Officials emphasize that ongoing and enhanced monitoring, as well as beach safety protocols ensure the safety of swimmers while supporting marine life. Legislator Walker said,

“Keeping our beaches safe for families and visitors is a top priority, and this grant will provide the Town of Oyster Bay with additional resources to enhance public safety along our shoreline. This funding will help ensure that our beach personnel have the tools they need to respond quickly and effectively, giving residents and visitors greater peace of mind as they enjoy our beautiful waterfront.” Legislator Goetz added, “As shark sightings become more frequent in our waters, it is important that we continue investing in proactive safety measures that protect everyone who visits our beaches.
