Twenty-five years after September 11, 2001, the Town of Babylon will gather at Cedar Beach on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. for its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony — and, for the first time, will unveil a permanent memorial to those whose lives were claimed in the years that followed. The new Post-9/11 Memorial recognizes residents who became ill or died as a result of their service and exposure in the aftermath of the attacks. Fourteen names are inscribed on the memorial at its dedication. “September 11th did not end when that day was over,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “For too many families in our community, the years that followed brought illness, loss, and a sacrifice that has gone unmarked for far too long.
