Model Train Show Postponed Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola today announced that Trainville Hobby Depot has postponed its Model Train Show scheduled for Saturday, November 21st and Sunday, November 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hicksville Community Center, located at 28 West Carl Street in Hicksville. The Model Train Show has been rescheduled for the weekend of March 13-14, 2021 and includes several operating layouts from local clubs coordinated by Trainville Hobby Depot.

Admission in to the exhibit is $5.00, children ages 4-11 years are $3.00 and entry for children under that age of 4 is free.

Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti.

Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.

They also offer group programs, individual lessons, c o r p o r a t e workshops and a program specifically designed for military members.

Lisa’s mother was a special education teacher and her father worked for a book publishing company. She was greatly influenced by both of their professions.

She grew up knowing she loved horses, but really wanted to become a teacher and work with children in need. Her father would often send her books while she was away at college, and one day she received a book titled Palomino, by Danielle Steel. As she read through the pages, she became inspired by what was written: a ranch that was formed to help people through equine therapy. From that point on, she was certain that was exactly what she wanted to do with her life. Through persistence, hard work and a passion to serve others, Lisa Gatti opened Pal-O-Mine Equestrian in 1995 as a 501C(3) organization.

Pal-O-Mine is located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week, and they continue to grow today! This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-theart footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. They help an unbelievable amount of people and their work is truly heartwarming.

Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome,

Additionally, this organization is proud to now offer a Frontline Heroes Wellness Program. This program is complimentary for medical professionals and first responders, and can be virtual or in person.

The well-known benefits of being in nature include reduced stress while providing a sense of calm, connection and solace.

Sessions for this program may include reiki, mindfulness and horsemanship.

Similar to many other organizations, volunteers are the backbone of Pal-OMine. In addition to its debut on Long Island, the Blaze is continuing in its 16th year at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-onHudson, NY, a National Historic Landmark owned and operated by Historic Hudson Valley. To meet demand, the organization is adding extra dates there as well.

Blaze takes place entirely outdoors, is touch-free, uses timed admission, and features a one-way walkthrough path with no places to congregate.

Close Friends Top Seaford High School’s Class Of 2021 With high school careers so closely mirroring each other, it was fitting for Julia Gambino and Kaylee Sanderson to earn the top two ranks in Seaford High School’s Class of 2021.

Julia topped the class with a grade point average of 107.45 to be named valedictorian, and Kaylee’s GPA of 106.53 earned her the rank of salutatorian.

Valedictorian and salutatorian is just another accolade for the

seniors. Julia was named a Commended student in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program and is an AP Scholar. Kaylee is an AP Scholar with Distinction. Both will also earn the Advanced Placement Capstone diploma at graduation because of their success in AP courses.

Rounding out the Top 25 for the Class of 2021 are Joseph Abbate, Madison Ahern, Sophia Boulukos,

Dominique Cannata, Cody Cole, Julianne Crawford, Emma Ettinger, Karolena Katsigiorgis, Sarah Keane, Shan LaGrassa, Chelsea Lin, Melissa Lochner, Samantha Lukaszewski, Mary Lynch, Sydney Mantione, Marissa McCandless, Marissa Mele, Colin Merrigan, Mary Pecoraro, Mali Pedone, Ashley Sidoti, Kathleen Tuohy and Amanda Williams.

Literacy In Natural Light At Manor Sunlight helps plants grow and it also helps Seaford Manor Elementary School students grow as readers and writers. With outdoor learning activities encouraged as part of the district’s reopening plan, teachers regularly take advantage of nice days to nurture their students’ literacy skills outside of the traditional classroom setting.

Fourth grade teachers Maura Coghlan and Sarah

Fenev often bring their classes outside for Reading Workshop activities. In a recent activity, students were asked to look for character reactions in their independent reading books. Using the stop and jot technique, they recorded their observations in their reading notebooks.

The teachers also use the outdoor literacy time to have individual reading conferences so they assess how well their students are

able to analyze different literary elements.

Amy Hechler’s fourth graders enjoy going out for Writing Workshop. To prepare for their small moment stories, students spread out on the blacktop to develop their the “seed idea,” or topics for their stories. They also used anchor charts to identify external and internal character traits.
