Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola today announced that Trainville Hobby Depot has postponed its Model Train Show scheduled for Saturday, November 21st and Sunday, November 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hicksville Community Center, located at 28 West Carl Street in Hicksville. The Model Train Show has been rescheduled for the weekend of March 13-14, 2021 and includes several operating layouts from local clubs coordinated by Trainville Hobby Depot.

Councilman Tom Hand recently announced that registration for the Town’s 2020-21 Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program and House League has begun at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage.

“The Town of Oyster Bay’s Youth Ice Hockey Program is one of the best games in town, and features many respected coaches dedicated to teaching this outstanding sport to the many boys and girls enrolled in the program,” said Councilman Hand.

“As a hockey enthusiast

myself, I am proud to announce that the children who attend the program get the unique opportunity to hone their skating and hockey skills as part of a program that has earned recognition by the National Hockey League for its high level of quality.”

Boys and girls, ages 6 – 16, interested in registering for the Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. Check, money order, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted.

All registrants must bring these items, even if they have participated in the past. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration.

Registration fees are $150 for ten weekly sessions. All participants must provide their own equipment. Games will be played at all three Town rinks, with game schedules being distributed after team assignment by the designated coach. The 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation came together in 2012 to help form a day that was focused on the generosity of giving during the holiday season. Thus, Giving Tuesday was born.

Technology and social media play a large role in uniting people for Giving Tuesday.

Founding partners included Mashable, a technology website, Skype and Cisco, but the success of Giving Tuesday is thanks in large part to the general public, who have both spread the word and made their own contributions to charity.

In 2017, Giving

Tuesday soared to new heights when technology mogul Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, announced their foundation would match up to $2 million in donations to Giving Tuesday fundraisers started on Facebook.

Facebook similarly waived its 5 percent fee for U.S.-based nonprofits all day long.

The global Giving Tuesday movement helped raise more than $300 million online across more than 150 countries in 2017 alone. This year, the Giving Tuesday organization is poised to top their numbers and continue to improve upon the more than 46,000 participating organizations involved in their charitable efforts. A Recognition Repeat For Seaford High School accountability status of “good standing.” Seaford High School, with a high graduation rate and strong academic performance by all subgroups, met these marks.

Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora announced this distinction at the Oct. 21 board of education meeting. She and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Personnel John Striffolino presented Principal Scott Bersin with the recognition certificate from the state Education Department.

Seaford High School has been named a Recognition School for the past two years and was named a Reward School, the designation under the previous accountability system, four times.

“We are so proud of the honor,” Mr. Bersin said.

“Not only does it indicate high achievement and graduation rate, but, because it can only be received if the school has no gaps in performance, it truly includes all of our students, families, faculty and staff.

Seaford High School has again been named a Recognition School by the New York State Department of Education for its high level of academic achievement.

With more than 4,400 public schools in the state, Seaford High School was one of only 582 in the state to earn the distinction, putting it in the top 13%.
