I had a math teacher in middle school who used to take whatever random change he had in his pockets, toss it out onto the classroom floor and proclaim, “There you go! Common cents… grab it while you can!” Nearly 15 years later, I found myself reflecting on this humorous anecdote as I typeset a press release from this same teacher. It’s funny how certain moments remain with you.

Have you been avoiding the dentist because you’re uninsured and worried about the cost of dental care? What if there was a dental plan that could save you up to 60% off your dental care costs with no gimmicks or restrictions? What if that plan was just $99 a year? Long Island’s own EDP Dental Plan is that plan! For over 15 years, EDP has worked closely with thousands of local dentists who are accepting EDP members. EDP providers accept our reduced fee plan as an alternative to insurance so patients will no longer avoid
getting the necessary dental care required due to the out-of-pocket cost. EDP was created to give everyone access to quality dental care at an affordable price. With EDP, there are no exclusions, so you can get the dental care you need right away. EDP Dental Plan saves you money on routine care like x-rays and cleanings, but EDP also saves you money on more advanced care like root canals, oral surgery and tooth replacement procedures like crowns and implants. No matter what your dental care needs, EDP can help you find a professional dentist and reduce your out-of-pocket expense with savings of up to 60% off. If you have been avoiding the dentist because you don’t have coverage and are worried more about the cost, then call EDP today at 631.272.5230. Everyone gets accepted with EDP Dental Plan, even if you have pre-existing conditions! Check out the thousands of participating dentists online at www.EDPDental.com Sign up online and receive three additional months for free when you purchase an annual membership. Roadblocks By: John McGowan
Don’t be dismayed if roadblocks come your way It’s a chance to test your metier Go around it, over it or under it if you may Letting it defeat you, it’s really not your way Let the juices flow to do your very best After it’s done, then you can rest Think of roadblocks as a friend Strengthening your resolve for winning in the end How dull life would be if roadblocks did not exist There wouldn’t be the need to steadfastly persist.
Perspective Counts By: Alexandra Rodrigues
A daisy from a child’s hand, Given with a smile outwins a rose By a show-off was sent. An old rotten fisherman’s boat, Can have more charm Than a yacht with a royal code. A bag lady worn by burden of time, May have more hearty wisdom to give, Than a startling young beauty with all her why and if. A small pond with waters fresh and clear, Sparkling and inviting Beats the ocean for a thirsty deer. The words “I love you,” when truly meant, Will reach deeper than money On expensive presents spent. Waste and misery can be seen in all, But so can beauty at any time, It is your call. The perspective out of what we view What is in question, Decides the outcome of our selection.

New Website Unveiled
The Long Island Radio & Television Historical Society is proud to announce the inauguration of their newly designed and updated website. The website can be accessed at: https://lirtvhs. org/ OUR HISTORY In 1995, it became apparent that the FAA radio station, once the site of the
WWI historic Telefunken radio station, was to be abandoned and destroyed. A movement to save the property was undertaken by Constance Currie and the Sayville Historical Society. Although there was a lot of support, the attempt unfortunately failed after a massive fire destroyed the remaining buildings. What was left
was bulldozed along with the antenna fields. Information Night Seaford High School held its first Fall Parent/ Athlete Information Night on September 5th for all Varsity and Junior athletes, coaches, and parents/guardians. Michael Spreckels, Director of Athletics, led the assembly and challenged everyone
to demonstrate “Seaford Pride” on and off the field. Mr. Speckels reviewed athletic policies and procedures and introduced new staff. Guest speaker Seth Tierney, Hofstra University Lacrosse Coach, told the athletes to always put forth their
The first members were from the Sayville Historical Society, Steuben Society, Long Island history buffs, amateur radio operators, and radio engineers who had worked in early RCA, MacKay, and other radio facilities. Chartered by the New York Education Department as the Friends of Long Island Wireless
History, the historical society eventually became the Long Island Radio & Television Historical Society to reflect a broader interest in the rich and diverse history of communications on Long Island from early wireless through the beginnings of radio and television. Through the years, the society has exhibited
