Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board invite residents to join them at the town’s Annual September 11th Memorial Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m. at TOBAY Beach.

“This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, and to honor those we have lost we invite all residents to join us at our annual September 11th Memorial

Ceremony. This remembrance ceremony features music, religious readings, a light tribute, and a reading of the names inscribed on the town’s 9/11 wall,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We will also unveil new names inscribed on the town’s ‘Walls of Honor,’ recognizing those who made the ultimate sacrifice due to 9/11-related illness.”

The town’s 9/11 Memorial - featuring a steel beam recovered from the World Trade

Center - is inscribed with the names of residents lost on September 11, 2001. The Walls of Honor monument expands each year with newly inscribed names of those who lost their battle with 9/11-illness caused by exposure at Ground Zero.

Seaford Harbor and Seaford Manor elementary schools have been recognized as 2022-2024

Schools of Excellence by National PTA. The honor is shared with the Harbor and Manor PTA chapters, and it is the first time that either school has received the distinction.

Harbor and Manor are among a select group of schools and PTAs nationwide to earn this designation. The Schools of Excellence program recognizes effective family-school partnerships that enrich educational experiences and overall wellbeing for students.

With feedback from the school community and in partnership with school administration, each PTA identified and implemented an action plan to ensure that families, students and educators are all valued partners in the student learning experience at home and at school. These initiatives aligned with both the National Standards for Family-School Partnership. Highlights for the Harbor PTA included:

• Prioritizing a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where families felt valued and respected.

• Implementing strategies to improve communication

channels between teachers and families, including a weekly email newsletter and the use of social media.

• Supporting student success by providing learning resources for home.

• Encouraging and empowering families to advocate for their child’s needs

• Establishing a Shared Decision committee in which parents had a voice in shaping school policies and programs.

Highlights for the Manor PTA included:

• Advocating directly for students and families through partnerships with school staff and administration, central administration and the board of education.

• Communicating information from the school, district, board of education and community via a weekly newsletter and social media channels.

• Introducing new enrichment programs and learning opportunities for students and families such as theater and soccer clubs.

• Supporting school learning initiatives in literacy, STEM, the arts, social and emotional learning, indoor recess and the new library

innovation program.

• Providing more than 75 programs throughout the year for families to connect with each other.

• Reaching its membership goal of 400 members.

“We are so proud to be recognized as a National PTA School of Excellence,” said Stefanie Brooks, president of Seaford Manor PTA. “Our work and commitment to family engagement and the family-school partnership will continue to impact the Seaford Manor School community far into the future. “When parents, students and educators feel valued and respected, they are motivated to contribute, collaborate and strengthen the student learning experience.

“The School of Excellence program highlights all the amazing things our Harbor School has to offer,” added Harbor PTA President Vanessa Krussman, “and provides us with the opportunity to implement new and beneficial programs as well as create meaningful and impactful changes within our school. None of this would have been possible without everyone’s collaboration. The Harbor’s hearts and hands, once again, work better together!”

Mr. Polite comes to Seaford from the East Rockaway School District, where he was the mathematics department chairman for two years, overseeing the program for grades 7-12. He held other positions in the district including summer school principal, Twilight principal and district enrichment and remediation coordinator. Before East Rockaway, he was a junior high school math teacher in Queens.

“I love working in a middle school,” Mr. Polite said. “Your job as an assistant principal is to be there for the students, to be a guiding voice. I’m looking forward to meeting the students and getting to know everyone by name.”

He said his goal is to establish strong

Mr. Polite holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and master’s degree in mathematics education, both from St. Joseph’s College, and a certificate in school building and district leadership from the College of St. Rose. He also serves as an adjunct mathematics professor at the Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology.

Mr. Schwartz joins the Seaford team from the neighboring Levittown School District, where he taught at the elementary level. During his time as a second grade and fifth grade teacher at Abbey Lane School, he was awarded the New York State School Boards Association Champions of Change for Kids award. He spearheaded the “The Schwartzville Project,”

“The family atmosphere and strong sense of community is what drew me to Seaford,” Mr. Schwartz said. “This is a place where people want to give back and want to get involved. I hope to bring an innovative approach as assistant principal of the Manor School, and want to help teachers and students be the best versions of themselves.”

Mr. Schwartz holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and history from Hofstra University, a master’s degree in general education and special education from Mercy College and a school building leadership certificate from Molloy University. He has served as an elementary enrichment director in both the Levittown and Locust Valley school districts.

Lightning Warriors To Host 4th Annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon

Lightning Warriors, a notfor-profit youth triathlon team, will be hosting its 4th annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon on Sunday September 17, 2023 at 7:00 AM at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai, New York.

This year’s Mini Maniac event will be geared toward triathletes of all levels between the ages of 7 and 17. While all racers will be participating in a youth triathlon, races will be divided into three separate age groups with swimming, biking and running distances varying accordingly. Younger athletes are also encouraged to register to participate in the Splash & Dash event, which is a 50-meter swim and a quarter-mile run for athletes between the ages of 5 and 7.

“I am excited to see the smiles and accomplishments as each athlete crosses the finish line and for those

first timers being called a triathlete,” says Lightning Warriors Head Coach Noah Lam.

All Mini Maniac participants will be able to take part in training clinics with the Lightning Warriors team in the months leading up to the triathlon. Favor bags will also be distributed to each racer, as well as medals for all finishers, awards for the top male and female finishers and postrace refreshments.

Participating in youth triathlons help build positive physical activity habits in children. According to Lam, “Every child should be able to swim, bike and run as those are lifetime skills… We’ve also seen that physical activity can provide immense benefits for mental health, more selfesteem, a sharper focus on achieving goals and a better ability to connect with other kids.”

Residents Invited To ‘Walk For Autism’

Athletes’ individual skills will also be enhanced by being a part of a team in a healthy competitive and supportive space. “You get to find new ways to overcome adversity in a safe environment,” Lam states. These skills will thus motivate them to exuberate confidence and conquer their goals, both inside and outside of racing.

The Mini Maniac event is the largest sanctioned kids triathlon on Long Island with 135 participants in 2022, and an expected attendance of 200 racers this year. The walk will benefit Advantage Care Health Center’s Fay J. Lindner Center for Autism & Developmental Disabilities, one of the leading treatment and outpatient assessment programs for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Supervisor Saladino said, “We are pleased to once again host this event to benefit the Fay J. Linder Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities,

which offers the highest quality, state-of-the-art clinical services to people with Autism Spectrum disorders. From hosting social skill development groups to assisting with medicine management and educating community organizations, Advantage Care Health Center does truly outstanding work in our Town that we invite all residents to support through this walk.”

Registration for the event begins at 10 a.m., with the walk commencing at 11 a.m. and a tailgate party immediately following. The registration fee is $10 for individuals and $25 for families. All registrants will receive entrance to the

post-walk tailgate party with refreshments and free T-shirts while supplies last.

Councilwoman Maier added, “It is estimated that 1 in every 54 children in the United States are affected by Autism, and early diagnosis leads to an increased ability to help through intervention services. That’s why this walk is so important, as it increases both education and awareness while bringing our community together.”

NAPCO Security Technologies Inc., headquartered in Amityville, New York, is a world-wide leader in the manufacturing of electronic security systems for over 40 years, publicly traded on Nasdaq under NSSC. We are currently seeking a Full Time Shipping/Receiving Clerk (for order fulfillment).

Requirements:

• Prior experience in shipping/receiving

• Worked with order fulfillment and use of scanners for picks and packing

• Familiarity with UPS World Ship

• Self-starter that can easily follow direction

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

• Must be able to lift at least 50lbs

• Have basic computer skills

“Long Island Cars” Car Show & Swap Meet returns to the LICH Amphitheater at Bald Hill in Farmingville on Sunday September 10th. Hundreds of custom, collectible and classic automobiles, from the 1930’s to present, will be on display at this competitively judged event with over fifty classes and trophies. Acres of vendors will be selling auto parts, fenders, tires, auto accessories, literature and collectibles at “Long Island’s largest Swap Meet”. Cars will be offered for sale by their owners in

the “Car Corral”. There will be live music, plus food and refreshments. LICH Amphitheater at Bald Hill is located at 1 Ski Run Lane in Farmingville, 11738. Researching Cassowaries, the Deadliest Birds on Earth, will be presented By Dr. Todd Green on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. Join the South Shore Audubon Society for the presentation at the Freeport Memorial Library, 144 W. Merrick Road (at S. Ocean Avenue) in Freeport. Cassowaries? Most people have never heard

of these large flightless birds native to Australia and New Guinea, which are critically important to the rain forest ecosystems they inhabit. They have daggershaped claws, crown-like structures and brightly colored heads and necks. They are so territorially aggressive; they are among the deadliest birds on earth. Paleontologists use

them to help untangle the mysteries of long extinct dinosaurs
