My Secret Life With all the fuss over this new film, “The Secret Life of Pets,” I thought it only appropriate to provide my own account of this socalled hidden existence we all allegedly cultivate when our humans are away.

First off, (spoiler alert) I have never taken to the sewers or made my way to Brooklyn looking for adventure. No, my exploration is confined to the four corners of my aquatic kingdom, where I examine every leaf of my plant and inspect each piece of gravel daily; you know, just to see if anything has changed overnight.

While my human feeds me twice a day, I must say the time between meals could be a bit closer. What she does for all those hours in between, I’ll never know. I’ve often thought

I would like to tag along, but the pet store told her I might be susceptible to something called “motion sickness” in the car.

Since I can’t go along, I do my best to entertain her whenever she enters the room, in the hope that she might linger just a bit longer.

I perform my tricks for her, everything from diving for flakes the moment she drops them in the tank to giving little “love pecks” on her finger when she even so much as touches the water.

Sometimes it works, and she’ll stay and have her cereal while perched on the counter next to me; but most times, it’s just some nonsense about “running late” and “see you later Buddy.” The only quality time my human and I have is when she’s busy cooking.

Honestly, my life is fairly dull and repetitive, not exactly the stuff of fine cinema. Well, except for that one time with Squeegee the Snail – but I digress. Too bad I couldn’t tag along for the movie. Maybe I’ll catch it on TV when it comes around. Hope my human still has that portable bowl for me to travel in. I do miss sitting on the coffee table watching the ball game… and sitting on the dining room table watching everyone eat… Boy, I do a lot of watching, don’t I? Maybe they should make a movie about that.

A Sunset Stroll A beachfront stroll down the Jones Beach Boardwalk will take place on Thursday evening July 21st at 6 p.m., hosted by the Long Island Health Collaborative. There is no event fee, parking fee, or registration. The Sunset Stroll will highlight walking as a simple and easy way to include exercise and healthy habits in a busy lifestyle. Expected guests at the stroll include New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard A. Zucker.

The Collaborative is focused on helping community members to better manage and prevent chronic diseases. They are hosting the Sunset Stroll to promote walking as an

This past spring, over 125 volunteer sales associates from offices across Long Island and Queens formed teams that spread across Beacon House’s housing sites and performed intensive house cleanups at seven sites for Coldwell Banker Annual Volunteer Day. Tanker Saturday Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony J. The Veterans Service Award is presented to vets who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to volunteerism on behalf of their fellow men and women in uniform.

Richard is a proud U.S. Army veteran, and is currently one the hardest working and most respected members of the Wantagh American Legion.

He tirelessly volunteers at the Northport VA Hospital and is always available to take veterans to doctor’s appointments and medical tests. Richard also coordinates the local veterans’ visits to the American Legion Post, where vets are provided hot meals, entertainment and donated clothing.

On Saturday, August 6th at 12 noon, The Museum of American Armor at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, 1303 Round Swamp Road in Old Bethpage, will honor America’s citizen soldiers who have served in the nation’s armor divisions by operating in the field a Cold War M48 Patton tank, a WW II Sherman tank, a Pacific theater Stuart tank, as well as half tracks and other tracked military vehicles. The program is made possible, in part,

through the support of PSEG. Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano is inviting the public as well as all veterans, families and friends to this unique event and looks forward to welcoming the families of veterans who served and many who were trained to either operate or maintain armored vehicles, trucks and other Army and Marine vehicles.

V.F.W. Post 7763 Commander William Colfer welcomed Arthur Lih III of LifeVac to make a presentation of his life saving device to the members of Post 7763.

Arthur Lih III is the inventor of the LifeVac rescue tool, used when a person is choking on an obstruction in their throat.

The standard is the Heimlich Maneuver to dislodge the obstruction.

If a person is confined to a wheelchair or otherwise immobilized, the Heimlich Maneuver is not effective. LifeVac comes to the rescue.

LifeVac works like a suction pump. If there is an obstruction in the throat, the pump is placed over the person’s mouth and the LifeVac creates the suction to dislodge the it obstruction.

The LifeVac system is now in use at many Police and Fire Departments, Rescue Squads, School Districts and several Senior Care facilities. Mr. Lih has provided each member of VFW Post 7763 with a LifeVac system.

Anthony Pancella III eagerly anticipated traveling to Florida for his daughter’s wedding. As he was having dinner with his family one Saturday evening, he felt a sharp pain in the middle of his chest and tingling in his jaw.
