Town Offers New Beach Yoga Classes At Sunrise & Sunset

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh announced that the Town is offering a new 10-week Yoga program at Philip B. Healey Beach at Florence Avenue in Massapequa. Classes are offered Wednesdays throughout the summer, beginning July 10th, for a 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. or 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. session.

“The Town is proud to offer residents a variety

of programs and services including these new yoga classes which offer great benefits to the mind, body and soul, behind a beautiful beach setting,” said Councilwoman Walsh. “Yoga builds strength, increases general flexibility and is considered a great stress reliever. Sign up today and use this opportunity to also meet new friends that can last a lifetime!”

Registration is now open and available at www. oysterbaytown.com/portal. Residents can also sign up on the Town’s new Parks & Recreation App, available by searching ‘Town of Oyster Bay Parks and Recreation’ in the Apple or Google Play Store. Registration is $60 for Town residents and $70 for non-residents. Please note that the schedule may be subject to change and residents are encouraged to inquire about special holiday scheduling. If a session is cancelled due to inclement weather, a make-up session will be attempted. Mats will not be provided, participants must bring their own Yoga mat. Raising Money Is Easy As Pie For Seaford Middle School Students

As a reward for a successful fundraiser to support firefighters, Seaford Middle School students got to pie their building leaders and teachers. The culminating event occurred during lunch periods on June 6,

when raffle winners were drawn.

The fundraiser was organized by the Service Club, led by advisers Amanda Robilotto and Julia Spellman. In selling raffle tickets for the chance to pie an adult, the group

raised more than $200 for Friends of Firefighters.

The New York City-based organization provides free mental health and wellness services to members of FDNY.

Residents Invited To Submit Photos For Town Publications

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Tom Hand invites residents to submit photos taken in the Town of Oyster Bay to be considered for future use in Town publications.

“We accept photos year-round submitted by our residents which depict people, places, community events and scenery throughout our Town,” said Councilman Hand. “We accept photos for the calendar, as well as

other Town publications, including our website, social media pages and brochures.”

Councilman Hand noted that photos should be taken within the confines of the Town of Oyster Bay. Digital submissions are preferred, but highquality photos may also be submitted. Emailed photos should be sent to photos@ oysterbay-ny.gov. Printed photos can be submitted to the Town’s Public

All concerts are in partnership with the Lions Club of Seaford, the Seaford Chamber of Commerce, the Seaford Wellness Council and the Seaford Knights of Columbus Memorare Council #3476. For the eleventh time, the series has a corporate sponsor, Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

Over two decades the Seaford Library has been offering up top notch, quality musical entertainment from artists and performers from all musical genres including classic rock, doo-wop, country, and everything inbetween. All the concerts and the outdoor movie are free of charge and will most likely draw hundreds of people from the Seaford community and beyond.

New York State Parks is celebrating their 100th year, and the Long Island Region is marking the milestone with a festival at Heckscher State Park on Saturday, June 22 from 11am – 3pm.

The Centennial Celebration event is titled “Through the Decades: 100 Years of State

New York State Parks Invites

Parks on Long Island.”

The Centennial Celebration will feature tented booths for each decade from the 1920’s to the 2020’s to recall the joy that State parks on Long Island have provided since 1924. Each booth will include historical photos, a

kid-friendly craft, an outdoor game, and information about the parks that were opened to the public in that decade. Reminisce about driving to the parks years ago with classic cars on display.

The New York State Park Police and New York State Park Lifeguards will also have booths showing off their vintage memorabilia. The Montaukett Indian Nation will display items from their “Gone Whaling” exhibit and the Montaukett Women Circle Dancers will perform traditional dance. Partnership tables will also be provided by the Department of Environmental Conservation, The Friends of Connetquot, The Friends of Heckscher, and the Islip Arts Council.

The festival includes a variety of family fun entertainment. Voted “Best Family Show” by Entertainer America, Jester Jim will delight children and families with his unique juggling show. Kids and adults can enjoy free

face painting, as well as an inflatable obstacle course and inflatable slide. A few holes of miniature golf will feature iconic landmarks from some of our local parks. Festival goers can even take photos with life-size cutouts of vintage uniformed park workers.

The Jazz Loft’s Equity Brass Band will play live

While Seaford Manor Elementary School fifth graders will soon be leaving familiar surroundings, they will have some guidance as they begin a new journey. Students in Lisa Perrone’s class created vision boards on June 6.

The personalized project gives each student a place to turn for inspiration. Students created their vision boards on their laptops, which were then printed and laminated by Ms. Perrone as a keepsake.

She shared a blank vision board through PowerPoint, and students had to fill in seven fields with images they found online. The spaces included places they want to visit, books they want to read, people they want to spend time with and goals they want to accomplish. Students also added images that reflect their strengths and talents, their hopes and dreams, and sources of happiness. Before students began, Ms. Perrone shared her own vision board as an example. Students learned that she loves to bake and one of her goals is to be the best teacher ever.

“It’s their last year in elementary school and I thought this would be something special,” Ms. Perrone said. “The vision board is a constant visual of their goals, and it will help guide them throughout their life in middle school and high school. As they get older, they will get more busy, so this serves as a focus point.”
