The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which encompasses New York State’s Nassau, Su olk, Queens, and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties, was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. LIMEHOF, located in Stony Brook, is heavily engrossed in our local communities and o ers Long Islanders many ways to get involved.

As like any non-profit, their volunteers play a large role in their e orts. Each and every person who gives their time as a volunteer is dedicated to help support their mission. The Hall of Fame is now accepting applications for their 2023 Student Scholarship program, where they will award $500 scholarships to graduating students. These scholarships will provide funding for eligible graduating high school students from Nassau, Su olk, Brooklyn, Queens, or Kings (Brooklyn) Counties who have shown an interest in pursuing a career in music.

Black Tea Drinkers

A small study from researchers at University College London found that black tea drinkers had significantly lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than non-tea drinkers within 50 minutes of experiencing a stress-inducing event. 1. Put a dash-cam in the car. Nothing will help you keep rates down better then proving you were NOT AT FAULT.

2. Some policies offer Accident Forgiveness for an added expense. In the current environment, it’s worth it. Lost discounts, higher premiums and surcharges will far outstrip the cost of this extra coverage….. for a long time.

3. Prepare ALL drivers with on instructions for ‘What to do at an Accident.’ Keep a script in the visor. Call the police. Exchange information. Don’t admit guilt. Take photos of the SCENE (not just the damage). Take note of traffic cams and/or home surveillance cams.

At least two $1,000.00 Scholarships will be awarded to students who have had personal experience with homelessness. Students must be a current resident of Nassau or Suffolk County (unless already enrolled in college or trade school elsewhere, with a previous residence in Nassau or Suffolk Counties), and have attended elementary, middle and/or high school in Nassau or Suffolk Counties.

Applicants must enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study or other licensed vocational program no later than the fall session of 2024.

Complete packages must be received by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15 and must include each of the following:

-Student Application -Letter(s) of Recommendation

-Essay

-School Transcript; documentation of GED Completion (if applicable)

Incomplete and late

packages will not be considered.

How scholarship recipients are chosen

• Grade point average 2.0 or higher (“C” average)

• Quality of essay

• Letter(s) of recommendation – minimum of two are required

• Review and selection by the Helen Martin Scholarship Committee

If you are selected to receive a scholarship

• You will be notified by July 31, 2023.

• AWARDEES ARE ENCOURAGED (NOT REQUIRED) TO PARTICIPATE IN A VIRTUAL SESSION AT THE KEYS FOR THE HOMELESS CONFERENCE. DETAILS TO BE DISCUSSED UPON AWARD.

• AWARDESS MUST SIGN A RELEASE ALLOWING LICH TO ANNOUNCE THEIR NAMES AS SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

• You must enroll in an accredited or licensed

Legislator Rose Marie Walker was joined by Deputy Presiding Officer Howard Kopel, Legislators Mazi Melesa Pilip, and Tom McKevitt, Deputy County Executive for Health & Human Services Anissa Moore, Dr. Irina Gelman, Commissioner of Health, Comptroller Elaine Phillips, Colette Coyne of Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign, Garden City Dermatologist Dr. Ted Daly, and skin cancer survivors earlier today to discuss what steps can be taken to prevent Melanoma, the importance of regular check-ups, and

other tips to stay safe in the sun in honor of Melanoma Awareness Month.

Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker stated “As we head into the warmer weather, and spend our days at the park, a ballgame, or the beach, I want to remind everyone to take proactive measures by wearing sunscreen, hats, and UV clothing, even on cloudy days. This year an estimated 100,000 adults will be diagnosed with Melanoma, but early detection is key and can save lives. So be sure to schedule yearly check-ups to stay safe!”
