The Marfan Foundation hosts its second annual Walk for Victory on Long Island on Saturday, May 2nd, at 12 p.m. at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park in Woodbury. This mile-long walk is part of a nationwide program to help raise awareness and raise funds to create a brighter future for the many thousands of individuals and families

living with Marfan syndrome and related disorders. All funds raised go directly to The Marfan Foundation for its lifesaving patient support services and educational initiatives.

Registration covers the entry fee into the walk, all snacks, games and activities. Every walker who raises at least $100 receives an exclusive

By: Jamie Lynn Ryan As a former student of psychology, I am continuously fascinated by those factors which cause a person’s mood to drastically change from one moment to the next, often with no discernable explanation. One minute, happy, positive energy; the next, sullen, negative bitterness. It’s enough to make your head spin.

Of course, there are a million factors that could possibly contribute to such sudden alterations in behavior; but, if you’re like me, you immediately look for the root of the problem. Is it my fault?

There comes a point when you need to avoid being sucked into the cycle.

I often envy those who seem to exude nothing but positive vibes, who appear to be in a constant state of contentment. Is it genuine? How do they achieve such a mentality and, better yet, maintain it continuously? I suppose, even if it is merely a means of keeping up appearances, such a skill should be applauded. Fake it ‘til you make it, as they say.

There is also a literary component. Prior to the first game, the students were divided into teams (houses) and instructed to describe their team attributes on a paper house, which hangs on the wall of the gymnasium.

Ms. Moran also questioned the older students on their knowledge of the books prior to the start of the game. A culminating assignment was to elaborately decorate a poster based on the game and the book series.

In the school version of the game, the seeker must use their words to aptly describe the location of the snitch.

Looking For Hat Trick On Saturday April 25th the women of the Strong Island Derby Revolution (SIDR) hit the track in their second home game of this season as they take on the Jerzey Derby Brigade (JDB) from Morristown, NJ. Last season, these two teams battled it out with SIDR taking the win both home and away. “This is by far one of the most physical teams we’ve played to date so it’s always an exciting time for fans,” said Doc Block, coach of the Strong Island Revolution. This exciting bout will take place at Strong Island’s home rink World Gym Racquet & Sports Arena located at 384 Mark Tree Road in East Setauket.
