Collection Drive To Support Veterans At VA Hospital

Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Clerk Richard LaMarca today announced that the Town will host a “Spring into Action” Collection Drive in support of the Northport VA. During the month of April, residents are invited to donate toiletries and clothing.

“From hosting veteran appreciation events to recognizing their service with Hometown Heroes Banners in our parks, the Town of Oyster Bay is committed to honoring veterans for their service to our nation,”

Supervisor Saladino said. “Please join this mission to help bring the comforts of home to veterans living at the Northport VA Hospital

by making a donation to our collection drive during the month of April.”

Most needed items include toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, unscented deodorant, body wash, unscented lotion, nail clippers, and shampoo), clothing (men’s underwear size 2XL & 3XL, men’s sweat suits size 2XL & 3XL, socks, flip flops, pajamas, and scarves), and entertainment (magazines, movies, and CDs, especially Greatest Hits of the ‘50s & ‘60s).

“When I learned that the Northport VA has a “Wish List” of items their veterans need, I knew Supervisor Saladino and the Town Board would spring into action with me

to help ensure these needs are met,” Clerk LaMarca said. “I thank them for partnering with me to organize this critical initiative, and I thank the residents of our wonderful Town in advance for their generosity and support of our Veterans.”

The Town’s Collection Drive will run through the month of April. Saladino Announces Free Job Fair

Supervisor Joseph Saladino, The Workforce Partnership and New York State Department of Labor are offering a Free Job Fair, which will take place on Thursday, March 30, at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. There is no charge for admission and parking is free. Veterans’ admission begins at 10:00 a.m., while doors for General Admission open at 10:30 a.m. The event runs until 2:00 p.m.

Employers from across Long Island will be seeking candidates for various positions. Some of these include management, licensed professional, hospitality, banking, staffing and technical.

“We have helped thousands of residents find meaningful employment through our career center and private sector jobs fair,” said Supervisor

Saladino. “The Workforce Partnership and the Town of Oyster Bay are committed to helping residents find meaningful employment opportunities as well as assisting local businesses in recruiting qualified employees. Musicians Shine And Soar

More than half of all students at Seaford Middle School are involved in either an instrumental or a vocal ensemble, a source of pride for music teachers. March is designated as Music in Our Schools Month and it’s also a time of year when the musicians climb to new heights.

The middle school has five ensembles – sixth, seventh and eighth grade bands, a sixth grade chorus and a combined seventh and eighth grade chorus. Collectively, these total more than 300 students,

and they showcase their talents in winter and spring concerts. Chorus students are under the direction of Amanda Ferguson, while Barbara Sherwin and Nick Coacci are the band conductors.

Ms. Sherwin noted that the once the winter concerts wrap up in midDecember following about three months of rehearsal time, students begin learning music for the spring concerts in June. With five months to prepare, the extended time means teachers can give students more challenging

pieces.

March, an uninterrupted month between the midwinter and spring breaks, gives teachers the perfect opportunity to weave in new skills, Mr. Coacci explained. They introduce new rhythms and scales, and help students expand their range. The new concepts expand on their existing music knowledge.

“People see the concert, but no one knows what it takes to get there,” Mr. Coacci said. “We are peeling back the curtain and giving people a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to get a concert off the ground.”

The Seaford Scholarship Fund is kicking off its 16th annual fundraising drive. All residents and businesses in the Seaford School District are asked to consider contributing to this scholarship drive.

All funds collected will be used to award scholarships to deserving seniors from the Seaford High School graduating Class of 2023. Anyone interested in contributing can

Spring Cleaning Tips And Tricks

Spring is a time of year when change is in the air. Trees are budding, plants are flowering, and homes laden with dark or heavy fabrics and clutter could use some lightening up.

Spring cleaning projects are popular this time of year as residents take inventory of their living spaces and aim to declutter, clean, and increase efficiency. Some people find the prospect of getting organized overwhelming. Here are some tips that can help anyone master spring cleaning.

• Create a plan. Make a checklist and establish a cleaning plan of attack. Focus on areas that are not regularly cleaned, as they probably need a little attention.

• Assemble your cleaning kit. Spring cleaning can be slowed down considerably if you don’t have all of your equipment ready. Items to have on hand include

an all-purpose cleaner, concentrated cleaner, microfiber cloths, paper towels, mop, vacuum, dusters, and a squeegee. Adjust your equipment based on the task at hand.

• Curate your cleaning playlist. Create a playlist with songs that will get you moving and motivated to clean.

• Work from top to bottom. Work efficiently by cleaning shelves, ceiling fans, and other elevated items first, as dust and debris will trickle down and need to be cleaned next.
