Santa’s Mailboxes From North Pole Have Arrived In Town Offices

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announce that children can send their ‘holiday wish list’ directly to Old St. Nick at the North Pole through a special network of Santa’s Mailboxes that have arrived in Town facilities from the North Pole. Mailboxes will accept letters through Monday, December 15th.

The Town of Oyster Bay will forward letters to Santa at the North Pole. Letters received by Monday, December 15th with a legible name and return address will be answered by Santa before the holiday. No postage is necessary.

Colorful red mailboxes will be accessible during regular business hours (9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.) at the

following locations:

Seaford Manor Students Spread The Word Through Sight And Sound

The airwaves are abuzz at Seaford Manor Elementary School, where the student news show returns for a second year and will be complimented by a podcast.

Manor Morning News, which had a highly successful debut last year, will soon be back on the air as fifth graders are preparing for their first show. With high interest, Assistant Principal Richard Schwartz picks a handful of students for each episode to fill both the on-camera and behindthe-scenes roles. That will give every interested fifth

grader a chance to be part of a few shows throughout the year.

Alice Pennisi is looking forward to her first broadcast, during which she will serve as a staff interviewer to highlight different teachers. She enjoyed watching Manor Morning News as a fourth grader and awaited her chance to be a part of the show.

“Last year, when I saw the fifth graders in it, I knew I wanted to be on TV,” she said. “I’m looking forward to going around the school, talking to the teachers and finding out

what they’re doing in class.”

Matthew Calvacca will help out as a production assistant and camera operator, a role that best fits his skill set.

“I like making videos and using technology,” he said. “I understand technology really quick and I am excited to help out.”

Harper Garcia signed up for an on-air position and wants to keep everyone at Manor well informed.

“I’m excited to share the news with the school,” she said. “Everyone should know what’s going on and the important stuff that’s happening.”

A Podcasting Club is new this year to get fourth graders involved. Mr. Schwartz said that the goal will be to have two episodes per month, about 10 minutes each, with different segments including Community Corner, Scholar Spotlight, Student Voices, Teacher Talk and Trivia Time. Because the productions will only include audio, it will be a chance for fourth graders to get an introduction to broadcasting before they can join Manor Morning News the following year.

The Viking Voice podcasts will be shared with teachers to play during class at their convenience, and also will be posted on the Manor website. A few students will be chosen for each episode and assigned different segments.

Quinn were chosen as the hosts of the first episode and also to conduct an interview with Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora. They met with Mr. Schwartz to come up with questions.

“I get to be featured on my first-ever podcast with my friends and it’s really fun,” Lily said.

Since it is new this year, fifth graders will also be

allowed to take part in the Podcasting Club. Going forward, Viking Voice will be open to fourth graders as a stepping stone to Manor Morning News in fifth grade.
