The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity.

They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares.

This year they are bringing the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! Each event has been going great, with up to hundreds of guests each night! The remaining events will run on October 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. On Halloween, their event will be kid-friendly! There will be no actors and walk through tours of their haunted house will be given.

The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a nonprofit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, nonmedical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event.

Lockhart Community Unites For Kindness

The formation of a human peace sign on the lawn of Lockhart Elementary School in the Massapequa School District was the highlight of Unity Day on Oct. 23.

Students and staff joined with others around the country to celebrate this day, which began in 2011 as an initiative by

PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center.

Leading up to Unity Day, Lockhart students participated in several activities to discuss and promote unity, inclusion, respect and kindness to others. The lobby was decorated with student projects and was a visual reminder of the event.

Students and staff were encouraged to wear orange on Unity Day to show that they stand together against bullying and are united in support of acceptance, inclusion and kindness.

Everyone was able to sign a pledge and take a sticker showing their intent to follow these tenets and be a friend to all.
